I just received my kit yesterday and I'm sending it back tomorrow. I'm so excited to continue learning my lineage and connecting with family

I've been enjoying the "match by parent", option. I also have uploaded my parent's DNA, so it's been extra exciting to look at that. I have Irish, and German relatives in differnt areas of my tree, as well as matches with the same surname, all over the place, in various unrelated parts of my pedigree. For that stuff, it's been fantastic, and even corrected a couple of my personal grouping mistakes, it would seem! It is great to hear it works well for identifying parents of adoptees. Hope it's helpful for forensics! Great video!

You might want to know, Italy shares a larger border with France. The Aosta Region does business in both Italian and French and has been doing it since at least 1800. Early records can be in either French or Italian and the records for the area my family comes from tend to be in French

It's so important to understand the history of the region you're researching in!

Thank you Amy. I love WikiTree. I see it as my way of sharing my research for future generations, especially when sharing family photos, and posting photos of family bibles and letters.

The new DNA sorting is incredible. I haven't looked at it for a while, and I have been off for a while, this is great. Thanks for letting us know.

I know I'm late to the video. Life happens. I love the new Ancestry parent features. I was fortunate to get both of my parents tested. And the matches are spot on, for me. If I was to guess, I had already had the first 100 or so DNA matches for each side matched to my tree. Became a mission of sorts. And every one of them were perfect. It is very cool. For me, my dad is at the top and my mom is below.

Interestingly enough the area of Western Slovakia is being identified as East Czechia, but it follows along the Vah river valley.

Thanks for the useful information, Amy! I’m Swedish and I have SO many relatives who emigrated to America. I gave up on trying to find some of them years ago, but you’ve inspired me to try again. 🌷

Im from England and alot of my Ancesters went to America. Mainly to work in the coal mines. The trouble is when they do their Ancestry tree going back to the 1800’s for England they are picking up the wrong branch. Very large families back then with lots of same surnames!.....I love when I connect and share dna with the America lot, but I cant share dna with all. One of my Ancesters was a leading Mormon but I dont share dna with the offspring. Looking at the photos I see very familiar faces. Just look like my Aunties and uncles. He was called William Bell Barton.

Thank you for today's video. I am watching the You Tube replay and enjoyed it very much. I joined Wiki Tree feeling it would be very valuable, but I have trouble in the methods and how to word the sources. So now I am stuck in a basic tree, because it takes me so long to get it right. I am frustrated.

The good thing about WikiTree's sources is that they are freeform -- you can enter it in just about any form that you'd like. Some websites, like FamilySearch, even give you citations that you can copy and paste.

What is really puzzling me about SideView is that, even though the maternal and paternal sides and matches are divided correctly, all the English/Northwest European is shown on my mother’s side. What happened to all my father’s very early Virginia ancestors, the majority of whom I am sure were English?
@AmyJohnsonCrow
@AmyJohnsonCrow Жыл бұрын
Are there ethnicities that show on your father's side that aren't on your mother's? If so, it sounds like you inherited those ethnicities from your father, and since there's only so much "room", the English had to have come from your mother's side. That's the thing about DNA -- just because we get 50% from each parent, we don't get an even 25% from each grandparent. That can end up making inheritance look a bit skewed.

@@AmyJohnsonCrow Thanks for helping me think about this more clearly. There is a small amount of German on my paternal Sideview and none on my mother’s, which is correct. Otherwise, they are all shared by both, except for all the English on my maternal side.

My maternal grandmother was adopted cannot locate any records linked to her birth name, not registered with state, cannot locate in any probate court. I found an orphanage she may have been in but without actual birth name or biological mothers name I cannot even get the records. How can I use wiki, ancestry dna, mtDNA which I have all done to find this missing link. ?Thank you.

Just about all of my endogamous relationships are on my mother's side. Both sides of her family are Acadian. Will your warning about the use of this new Ancestry DNA parental split still be true in such a case?
@AmyJohnsonCrow
@AmyJohnsonCrow Жыл бұрын
If it's only your mother's side that has endogamy, it *should* still split your matches into maternal and paternal. What you'll have to be careful of is when you look at the matches on her side, the estimated relationships could be off.

Would u recommend doing a genealogy for locating adopted kids??
@AmyJohnsonCrow
@AmyJohnsonCrow Жыл бұрын
If you’re trying to locate biological parents, first see if you can get the original birth certificate. In the US, more states are making those available. Many have opened them up in just the past couple of years.
