In South India , people commonly gather together for worshipping rituals and then women sing devotional songs composed many hundred years back. That is all compositions in Carnatic music. It is also common for women to gather in temples in the evening and sing the prayers together. It is so beautiful to hear older women sing them with devotion. They have practiced these songs for so many years but not for fame or money. It is so deeply spiritual and pure.

Telugu language renders itself suitable to Carnatic music lyrics because all the words end with Vowels like Italian. Telugu is called Italian of the East due to this fact that all words end with vowels.

Carnatic music historically speaking dominated by Telugu composers and compositions, in fact out of Trinity of carnatic world 2 are Telugu composers. But there are also Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam compositions. But usually dominated by Telugu ones. Next another reason is that Telugu film industry or Tollywood uses a lot of carnatic music compared to other industries so you find more videos from them😅 And to end carnatic music is very much prevalent in cities, in fact it's considered prestigious. So most carnatic consumers also come from elite backgrounds.

@@vivanm-nt7pz Wrong carnatic is word used for entire South India especially Tamil Nadu, carnatic name was used by British so when they saw music here they simply called it carnatic music. In fact go and google old carnatic map, carnatic wars also check where it happened. Karnataka name was adopted by mysore state only after independence. Carnatic music major compositions are in Telugu and Sanskrit, carnatic trilogy are all Telugu. The North Tamil Nadu and south andhra is what use to be called as carnatic during 1700-1950 There is no Karnataka state back than.

It is not like other south indian languages aren't suitable for carnatic music, but certain languages like Telugu have certain characteristics such as sandhi (joining of two words), chandas and prasa (metre), most of the words ending with vowels, combination of words forming long raps and so on, making it a naturally musical language. Also it being an ancient language, it has evolved so much that native speakers no more understand certain words in it (Like sanskrit you can't imagine how meaning and contexts that a word can set and how many words for the same meaning are present). And in, India the only language (except hindi - national language) that is spoken in more than one state (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), is telugu and it is not only due to geopolitical issues also due to the way in which evolution of language took place and not to forget cultural differences too. Each region in these telugu states speak entirely different accent or genre of telugu and the cultural difference is so huge. Like italian is well known as the main musical language for western classical, telugu for eastern half of the world, This was recorded by britishers while the colonization took place and called telugu, Italian of the east. Many kings in India like Krishna Devaraya had fell in love with telugu ,written beautiful books and quoted quotes such as desha basha landu telugu lessa (meaning out of all the languages in India telugu is better). Many other south-Indian language composers, learnt telugu, after falling in love with the language and specially composed songs in telugu. One of the tamil composer Bharatiar, quoted - sundara Telugu (Beautiful telugu) and many other composers dedicated their love and affection towards the language through similar quotes. One of the most unique thing about the language is it could express all the navarasas (9 rasas - all emotions) and could show distinction between very similar emotions too (not only through linguistic meaning but also through the sonic/ sound body). Most of the south-Indian classical compositions are in telugu for these reasons, and no other languages could replace telugu in the terms of that sonic and linguistic body being created while creating a composition/ expressing too. Not to forget telugu states also have a special classical dance forms which uses more moment than other classical dance forms and hence being one of the ancient and most expressive classical dance forms. (I am not demeaning other south-Indian languages in any way). Hope you find this helpful.

@bypassalgo6859Its not the matter of which language is older or not. Its the matter of how musical a Language is. Who cares if some language is ancient, given it is permitted to a region. It's the pride of that region and I have no say in it. And By the way Telugu came from other South Indian Languages is itself a major misconception and an unproven theory. By National Language I meant the language widely spoken in India. I don't see a reason to demean Hindi, If we don't have a common medium to communicate, how we Indians would communicate? And yes most carnatic compositions are in telugu. Count the number of composers itself, starting from Annamacharya, the number is immense. Some of them like Kshetrayya made compositions which are exquisite and unique. The Padams and Javalis they composed, only they could do that. Annamacharya himself composed over 40,000 compositions. Check your stats. By Sandhis, samaasas and other Vyakarana rules what I meant was Telugu has its own vyakarana rules, alongside the vyakarana rules derived from Sanskrit. Like Atva, Itva, Utva Sandhis and so on. And the Language naturally has a meter in the way statements are made. That's why it was called the Italian of the East and other kingdoms of South made poems, huge amounts of literature in telugu. This is a huge concern in why people want to make associations in how ancient the Language, for everything. This is not the context.

No Efra, they added that pop beat because the song is indicating the lives of a couple who are living a very modern life in India. Some pop beats are okay, as they encourage cultural music to youngsters. You can even see some of those comments under the post you reviewed, youngsters aren't mostly into traditional stuff. Most of people here are okay with fusion and stuff, unless it damages the composition and tune a lot. Also fyi, most of the carnatic compositions have been in telugu due to several factors. 1. Most of the composers in carnatic belong to telugu families and hence they composed in telugu. Like the trinity of carnatic music, two of them are telugu. Idk the reason but historically telugus dominated in compositions 2. The kingdoms and kings at the time used to encourage telugu language a lot, for example during Vijayanagara empire. 3. The telugu language has a nice flow to it, it always ends in vowels and usually considered as sweetest language, well at least in the south ( in north there is bengali ig). It suits carnatic compositions. That being said, I personal think Hindustani music is more melodic than carnatic. Also I would like you to check out Telusa manasa ( tum mile dil khile) original version in telugu, to compare and contrast how languages can sound. Could be fun one.

Musicians do come together and sing in India. One example would be the thyagaraya aaradhanotsavalu. Sri Tyagaraja was a famous music composer of carnatic music. One of the holy Trinity of carnatic music actually. Every year, around January(as per Julian calendar), all the famous carnatic musicians come together and sing Tyagaraya's most iconic pancharatna kirtanas.(I've heard that the minimum requirement to be among that group is to complete Master's in Carnatic Music vocal/instrument, I might be wrong) On that day,not just in Tyagaraja Swami's birthplace, throughout India and the world, carnatic musicians do nagara sankeertana, they walk around the streets singing the famous pancharatna kirtanas as a homage to the travelling troupes of the old, and also to Tyagaraya Swami himself. In this video you reacted, the endaro mahanubhavulu is a classical fusion of one of those pancharatna kirtanas. kzfaq.infoqawW33d71QQ?feature=share It is a documentary of the composer, his village and the story of the aaradhanotsavalu. The aaradhanotsavalu, actually played an important role in bringing diversity to carnatic music itself(caste, gender, bringing recognition not just to vocal singers but also to instrumental players) Hindustani music also does a similar thing to pay homage to Tansen. It happens in Gwalior every year.

Carnatic music was composed in Telugu during 9th or 10th century (not sure about exact dates) in Telugu. The vocals are rounded off so it's the language that best suits the music, Telugu states forgot much of it(due to islamic invations in Telangana area) and disturbed social patterns but preserved by Tamils and Kerala, brought back into limelight in 18th century. I didn't meant that carnatic music in Telugu states was not as famous in Tamilnadu but the people per capita was low due to invasions.

The reason why so many Carnatic compositions are in Telugu is since almost every word in Telugu ends with a vowel. This makes the transitions between words extremely smooth making it perfect for music! There used to be a time when Carnatic songs/keerthans were written in Tamil and then translated to Telugu before singing in public.

Thoroughly enjoy returning to your channel to see both your sheer enjoyment of Indian music and the very colorful expressions of your rapture.... To answer some of your questions - Communal singing of classical is common in India and not necessarily linked to the city or rural divide. It is not pure Carnatic or Hindustani music that you'd find here. It's a slightly related genre that is called "devotional". This encompasses a range from songs praising the Gods completely set to classical rules but not necessarily going through the entire complex stages that a concert would entail. You find two settings - people simply gather on a daily or weekly basis to sing together - these are called bhajan groups or sessions. The second format is that of large festival gatherings where hundreds or thousands of people can assemble - such as the Thiruvaiyuru festival in Tamil Nadu which you should definitely Google and check out. Incidentally the sarod is not used in Carnatic music, nor the tabla. While similar sound tapestries are woven, there are both distinct differences in treatment as well as instruments used. The veena and the violin are usually the melodic accompaniments, while the mridangam is the basic percussion instrument. You should look for any nadaswaram concert - it's a unique sound especially used in devotional music - the Hindustani equivalent is called the shehnai - look specifically for Ustad Bismillah Khan. If you are game to up the notch one level - check out a Carnatic concert by Maharajapuram Santhanam or TM Krishna, or the less known Hindustani school of classical music that derives from Sama Veda chanting called Dhrupad. Look for a performance by Ashish Sankrityayan - there's an experimental jam called Dhrupad Swedish folk kulning - or for the channel Samvad music.

YOU Should react to "DALAPATHI" both as a set of wonderful songs as the movie as a masterpiece in itself! You will never regret it. That song at 3:50 is a great song, The actor in the movie always incorporates bultilingual ; fusion songs in his movies, right form the beginning of his career. He is "Pawan Kalyan" ;The movie in itself is kind of entertaining and differently paced than your regular Bollywood trope. Do watch and review some of the South Indian Movies too.
