I’m thinking if I should keep 17’s on my mustang. I want the best performance out of my car and I heard anything after 18” will hurt the performance/acceleration/Cornering etc

Most sports and race tires now are 18s and 19s, anyway. This is to fit bigger brakes so that the heavier cars of today can be slowed more effectively from higher speeds more often before the brakes fade. The performance degredation you hear about is because large-diameter wheels and tires get HEAVY, and reducing unsprung/rotating mass is huge for performance. The solution? Spend money on lightweight forged or semi-forged (rotary forged) wheels. RPF1's are always light and relatively cheap, and they'll come in fitments that should work for most. Just be sure to get them at least 9-wide or they'll have the ugly convex spoke faces. 9+ wide good looking RPF1s only come in 17s and 18s, except the 15x8 which also has the concave/flat (good-looking) face, but that won't fit on your car.

If hes turing right his inside left wheel will get more clearence and the outside left wheel will camber in creating more clearance
