One of the most intriguing visits during 52in52 was to Independence, Missouri. In Latter-day Saint theology, Joseph Smith received a revelation from God in 1831 that PINPOINTED a plot of land that would serve as a gathering place for Jesus Christ's second coming. This was to be the New Jerusalem, or Zion. Plans were made to build a temple in this spot, however, the then-governor of Missouri executed an extermination order to KILL Latter-day Saints if they didn't leave the state. So they did.
Not long after, Joseph Smith was killed and it resulted in a succession crisis of authority in the LDS movement.
One area of contention was the land Joseph Smith earmarked for Christ's return. One of the leaders who vied for control was Granville Hedrick, who returned to purchase the land in 1867 and established the Church of Christ. Though small, they tried to build the temple in the 1930's until the Great Depression foiled their plans. It's been a grassy "Temple Lot" ever since and the church will NOT sell it.
Well, SEVERAL Latter-day Saint spin-off churches (miniscule to the much larger Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints based in Utah) have also centered their headquarters near the surrounding Temple Lot area in preparation of the last days.
I wanted to visit at some point again to learn more.
Well, this past spring, an unusual invitation was sent my way.
I received a phone call from Patrick McCay (‪@patrickmckaysr8025‬). He's an apostle (though he stresses it's only a title) of the Joint Conference of Restoration Branches. He's been orchestrating dialogue among various branches and heard about 52in52.
He invited me (plus, Steven Pynakker from ‪@MormonBookReviews‬) to attend and briefly speak from a respectful Protestant perspective at a Book of Mormon Rally. It would feature talks from several members of other Restoration branches for a two-night event. Not only that, but he invited me into his home for church alongside Steve, BYU professors with Scripture Central, and other members of Restoration churches.
I made the visit last month. Here's a brief glimpse into what happened.

The thing I appreciate about your channel is one - your value of dreams and symbolism. I figure if they're various learning styles in the world, nobody can fine tune individualized learning like GOD can. And it's fun to learn with you as explore various religions. And two, the other thing I appreciate is that you seek to bring peace and respect wherever you go. Wouldn't it be amazing if the various religions of the world could look up and see souls all around them worthy of honor! Wouldn't that be amazing?

Hi, I just found your channel through the episode of saints unscripted, and I think it’s awesome that you have taken control of the faith that was slipping. You spoke about the dream that Lehi had and how it seemed similar to what you saw at conference (outside). I have never been able to go to conference (watch with my ward family many times though) and your outside perspective on it is really refreshing. I hope this journey you are on brings you the peace that passes all understanding that you are seeking. Only Jesus Christ can give that, through deep and abiding relationship with him and our Father in the oneness of Love.

I would like to say, you are right that we are to love our neighbors. That is the second grat commandment after loving God. Bashing and pulling up tares isn't the way, but we are called to warn and reprove against false doctrines in love. KJV 2 Timothy 4:2-4 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. In this we should take care to check not the people but the teachings. People maybe be genuine, but still genuinely deceived. An example: I met a kind elderly couple in the south. Wr shared our mutual faith in Christ until they told me Israel was made only of white folks and no others can be saved. Most would see the obvious doctrinal issues this raises. But they didn't. They were kind, offer truck drivers a place to stay when they pass by, even feed them from their own table. Yet they teach a false gospel. This is an extreme example obviously. But the parable remains. Look not at the people. Look to the doctrines and compare them to the Holy Bible. KJV Isaiah 8:20 20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. KJV Acts 17:11 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. I say this in love, because regardless of which church we join, unless we use spiritual discernment, by careful study of the scriptures. We will be deceived.

David, in the LDS church we teach that in those scriptures where Jesus is talking about the Rock he isn’t actually referring to Peter but referring to the previous verses where He is talking about revelation. So His church is built upon revelation.

John 1:42 as Latter-day Saints believe it was originally written… aka the JST version. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon, the son of Jona, thou shalt be called Cephas, which is, by interpretation, a seer, or a stone. And they were fishermen. And they straightway left all, and followed Jesus. Rock = seer = prophet = revelation. Peter was to be a prophet seer and revelator… so essentially Christ was referring to revelation. The topic of seer stones is connected and it’s worth a deep dive study. Joseph Smith didn’t invent the idea of seer stones, it goes back further.

Yeah it would be weird for Christ to build the church, him being the chief cornerstone and firm foundation and then just transfer that over to peter. To further.. the spirit of revelation is a testimony of Jesus Christ.

I appreciate your reflections so much. I am LDS. I joined the church over 50 years ago. I was definitely not looking for a church, but not to be rude, I listened to the missionaries first lesson. It changed my life! I have never looked back! My gentle suggestion to you is to read the Book of Mormon cover to cover. Most importantly, pray about it. The book contains a promise. If you honestly pray, you will come to know it is true. All the best to you, dear Christian Cousin :-)

The Bible (which the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 13 attacks as having been corrupted) never tells us to test a prophet by prayer and feelings, but instead to test them by comparing what they say to what God has already said. By doing this we can see that the Book of Mormon cannot be from the same God as the God of the Bible. Galatians 1:6-8

Peter's statement, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God" was revelation to Simon Peter, and it was upon that "rock", the rock of revelation, Christ built His church. Revelation, along with His authority, is the key in all of Christ's original Church activities!

Wow, I grew up in the South in the sixties and seventies as a Mormon. I never dreamed I would hear an evangelical speak so lovingly about our church. Thanks for taking the time to know us in a better light. I live in Utah now. I believe that living in an area with the opposition actually helps one live their religion better. People expect it from you. They also respect your beliefs of not drinking or partaking of certain foods. They would defend you. I was impressed with that side of their attitude. More Utahans are being enticed by one energy drink at a time. What is really sad is if they want to leave the church they don’t have another option for worship. Not much anyway.. They feel like they have to become anti religion instead and drag others with them. I also realized that no matter where you live you will find what you seek for. There are amazing stalwarts wherever you live. You have to desire to find them and hopefully be one.

Great comment, Wanda, thankyou. I agree about people who leave the Church... for many it seems that in doing so they just end up replacing their LDS faith with a new one called anti-Mormonism, instead of moving on and finding some other more constructive purpose in their lives. It's sad☹️

The Methodist Church is also cracking as well, same issue. It is awful. Then I heard the next sentence. I think about that stuff all the time. I am a convert to the LDS church but I go to a bunch of churches. I like different music, I like those churches that have crazy but effective prayers, but I love the constant digging and discussion of scriptures, the monthly testimonies, the no drinking, no shacking up, no drugs, actually helping out church members, in addition to other service things, social activities, no making others work for you on the Sabbath, not a country club or social church, the old hymns, the praying before and after everything, the fact that the bishop doesn't drive around in a fancy car and his kids don't goto free private schools and universities (I went to UMHB and half the kids there were getting free school because of that ...while me, a veteran was paying full tuition, and I was in from 88-93 and am not disabled so I don't get free schooling. The church I went to for awhile...the pastors were in a boat club and just living off of tithing. Yeah, I want no part of that so the local church leaders who work all the time in addition to their normal jobs get paid NADA. Nothing. I love the peace I feel in the Temple in the nicest room. They don't beg for air conditioning money either. We clean our own building. I love the Jewish system as well and would love to see vids on that but maybe you already have some. I will go back and watch the video.

David, thank you for your channel and your kindness, amazing sincerity and honesty towards my church especially, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Did you know that there are over 5,000 Christian churches who solely teach from the Bible, yet several of them contradict each other? That is what led me to this church. I noticed that this church was the only church out of so many Christian churches that doesn't say, believe everything that we tell you to be true. In fact, much to my shock, they say the opposite. They say, don't believe everything that we tell you to be true. Instead, we're SO confident in the restoration of Jesus Christ's actual church on the earth, which we prophese to be, that we don't ask you to talk to us about confirmation of the truthfulness of the restoration and of this gospel, but talk to God himself about it, through prayer, and we are so confident about this challenge, written by an ancient prophet named Moroni, chapter 10, verses 3-5, towards the end of the Book of Mormon scriptures, that if you are truly sincere before God, then he will affirm of its truthfulness through the power of the Holy Ghost. You can't beat that! Millions and millions of people have tried this challenge and their lives have dramatically changed for the better. So my friend, I hereby challenge you to do the same. Take care. And keep posting your wonderful videos. Jay Hulet

Dude, I loved this. Sounds like the gathering of Israel to me. Gathering in one all things in Christ. So cool. The spirit testifies of these things. The spirit of revelation. You talked of Christ asking Peter, "Whom say ye that I am?" Peter answered, "Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God." Christ then said, "flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto the, but my Father which is in heaven." And how did he reveal it? Through revelation by the power of the Holy Ghost/Spirit. And upon this rock (principle of revelation) I will build my church. Matt 16:15-18. You are all filled with the testimony of Jesus. Rev 19:10 for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The Lord is building a church again with Prophets and Prophetesses who are filled with the spirit of revelation that we all might speak in the name of the Lord. Get ready for His return. Keep spreading the Love. You are doing better than you think you are. Loved this!!!

Thank you for your channel, David. I have enjoyed learning more about other religions through your eyes. I am an active member of the CJCLDS. I appreciate your focus on the similarities rather than the differences in Christan Churches. "The Jewish leaders asked Christ which is the great commandment in the law?" "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt alove the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." I send out the wish that all Christians would focus on these two commandments. Mastering them will take many of us a lifetime.

Per David's comment on the Martin Luther and the "Great Schism" I thought I would share about a related concept in the "The Great Apostasy" by James E. Talmage posits that following the death of Jesus Christ and his apostles, there was a widespread falling away from the doctrines taught by Jesus and the original Church he established. This departure from original teachings, or apostasy, resulted in a period without authoritative priesthood power or revelation. The book argues that the original Church's teachings and structure were altered, resulting in various Christian denominations that differed from the original Church. 📿⛪🐦 In logical terms: 1. Premise 1: Jesus Christ established a Church with specific doctrines, teachings, and an authoritative priesthood. 2. Premise 2: After the death of Christ and his apostles, significant alterations in doctrine and structure occurred. 3. Conclusion: These alterations led to a "great apostasy," a period wherein the original teachings and authority of Christ's Church were absent. The book then supports the idea that a restoration of Christ's original Church and priesthood was necessary, which Talmage believes occurred through Joseph Smith in the 19th century. 1. Premise 1: The original doctrines and priesthood authority were lost during the apostasy. 2. Premise 2: A restoration of the original Church's authority and teachings is essential for salvation. 3. Conclusion: The restoration occurred through Joseph Smith, as evidenced by his revelations and the establishment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While you were talking i kept thinking how Jesus said there are only two churches. And when He said those who hear and do …. I love the Gospel of The Restoration. I think Jesus Christ came in the first place to restore people to The Father. Those who are pure in their hearts about doing the Father’s will, as He did , I think have a special light about them that is not only evident to the eye, but that can actually be tangibly felt. The love of Jesus Christ in and through true discipleship is how the world knows us. True disciples of Jesus Christ love one another. And that is a powerful thing to witness and to feel. WE all need to Come Unto Christ and let Him lead us by the hand HOME. I really miss The Father and long for his embrace. I miss our Home.

David: I thought your manner of thought. You've got this puzzle with one-thousand pieces and you're trying to put it together. You're not rushing it, you're taking it a step at a time to make sure you're understanding it and that's awesome! I think I've concluded you're a Lutheran and, though many know it or not, Latter-day Saints aren't anti Martin Luther, John Calvin, or John Wycliffe, instead, Latter-day Saints have a deep respect for them, and an appreciation for them. As you mentioned, man IS foulable and can make mistakes, and as Jeffery Holland stated: "It must be terribly frustrating for our Heavenly Father, but we are all he has to work with". When asked what Joseph Smith thought of the prophet Mohammed, Joseph Smith is said to have a respect for Mohammed of Islam. A protestant and I discussed that once and she was FURIOUS at me for suggesting that, because Islam teaches Jesus was just a prophet, and Islam backs that up with Jesus never proclaiming or professing to be God, but they don't understand I Am, but, she was furious they Islam didn't consider Jesus as God. What she doesn't understand, and Joseph Smith did, is just as Jeffery Holland stated "we are all He has to work with". As you suggested, Peter cracked, even Jesus' right-hand man cracked under pressure. I, personally, don't see Peters "fault" as a fault, necessarily. I think that's the only way Peter knew he could be keep Jesus in his sight and watch his best friend to the end rather than being expelled for being a Christian, I see it different than most do, I guess. Still, Mohammad was at least someone God could work through to keep the idea of the God of Abraham alive rather than an entire nation falling into disbelief. We learn from Corinthians, Peter, and Joseph Smith that Gods work doesn't end on earth, that's why there are temples. If they haven't let go of the God of Abraham, then it'll be easier for them to accept the Gospel in the Spirit world than going completely atheist. God has to work with what he has in a fallen world and still play by his rules. The Church of Jesus Christ had just been rejected. It's founder, it's Rabbi, it's Messiah had just been rejected, false doctrines had crept in and polluted the Church, and it's leaders were being rejected, killed, and Satan was getting the better of them by their own pride and sinful nature, they were being exploited and a new Church was formed. If you listen to David Alexanders channel, he talks about and really hits on INFANT BAPTISM as a starting point. Constantine in his history and the studies they're learning more and more of him indicate he was a loyal Apollo follower and worshipper to his death (he remained a Pagan) but potentially used Christianity's rising popularity to United his people and his army, but I've concluded, for now, Constantine remained a staunch worshipper of Apollo. So here's this great Apostacy that has transpired, and to my knowledge, it was likely Martin Luther first identified and coined the term. He knew something wasnt right, the Church had fallen away. Was Martin Luther a prophet? No. Did he have apostolic authority as Jesus original twelve had? Nope, that was long gone. Even St. Ignatius of Antioch was approached by his congregation who plead for him to take over the Church and govern it, and St. Ignatius, who was a fan of the Apostle John, and was believed to be one of the children blessed by Jesus himself, responded to his congregation: "I am but a Bishop". He knew he only had certain priesthood keys and his mentor John the Apostle had many more keys, St. Ignatius knew. But, back to Martin Luther, he may not have had the authority or Priesthood keys to govern the Church, but neither did Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1820 when he read James 1:5 and had the first Vision. He recognized up until the time Peter, James, and John conffered upon him those keys and later more keys from other prophets who held those keys in the Kirtland temple, after the manner of Jesus Christ who first demonstrated that manner with Moses conferring keys upon the head of Aaron, that's when Joseph Smith had priesthood keys. So, Martin Luther, John Wycliffe, and Calvin, all had an open mind and enlightenment to at least see something was off. God had lit a fire under them to start to lead things back on the trail it needed to go to begin the reformation, which was crucial to preparing the way for Joseph Smith to have a foundation to work off of to have more enlightenment to take it to God and ask him and begin the restoration. Whether the start of the Catholic Church was part of that plan and God's hand in moving things in the direction from a totally corrupt and apostate church, I don't know, but the reformers mentioned, just as Mohammed, were someone at least willing to do things God's way where everyone, before, who knew better and had light and truth, rejected it and abandoned it and knowingly killed the Apostles. Protestants don't seem to understand the respect Latter-day Saints actually have for their founding fathers. When Jesus responded to Joseph Smith in his time, he told them they were corrupt churches in those days, and look how they eventually treated the Members of the Church that was being restored. There wasn't unity and love, it was persecution and violence toward them, but it doesn't change the fact their forefathers jumpstarted things to build steps to help Joseph Smith along, had they not been listening to that still small voice, where would we be today? The Churches and ensued? Just like the branch offs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but what's interesting is that there are members of those Churches that say: "Yeah, Brigham Young was the successor. Latter-day Saints in Utah are the covenant children that are continually receiving revelation" but it's easy for them to accept. Fundamentalists convert as well so God's still working to bring everyone into the same place, so there's always going to be splinter groups that disagree and branch off. In the United States there are 44,000 different denominations that all spread from one Church. That doesn't include the Gospel that existed in the Old Testament that has branched out into various Jewish sects, and even after Jesus when Mohammed founded Islam how many different branches of Islam there are, all of this coming from Adam, day one in the Garden. Latter-day Saints claim it's a direct line from: Adam to Noah, who held onto the authority to carry it on after the flood. To Abraham, to Jacob, to Moses, to Nathan, to Jeramiah and also Lehi into the New World, Jeramiah all the way to Malachi, to John the Baptist. The New World to Nephi through Alma, to Helaman. And then Jesus comes and calls his twelve. He ressurects and goes to the Americas and calls twelve there as well who pass down to Mormon and then to Moroni until they all become apostate and corrupt just like in the old world and the priesthood authority dies out, as is the same with the Apostles in the old world. So, there's a time of quiet where everyone's scurrying about trying to piece together the broken glass vase but don't know they're preparing the world for Joseph Smith who, as God told Jeremiah: "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee and ordained thee a prophet" Joseph Smith was foreordained and the same gospel and authority Adam held in the beginning was given to Joseph Smith by John the Baptist and later Peter, James, John, and so on. It's pretty amazing but, absolutely, Latter-day Saints respect and acknowledge the reformers

Even though some of their doctrines such as eternal families are appealing on a human level, I probably wouldn't believe anything about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints if God hadn't sent his spirit to know me and prove to me that he lives, that the Missionaries are his servants, and that it is his Church. I know this is true because I recognized and remembered his spirit during its visitation, and realized that true life is in him rather than in myself or my life alone. So in a sense, there is now a new light in my sky. God is the only person who has ever known me. I feel like I was first born to my Parents as a sowed but dormant field. And at age 26, the visitation of Gods spirit watered my field and stirred all the dormant seeds of hope within me to life, and I unfold to his light. What other is a man to do under the tutelage of the living God? Without him, dearth would be my soul. I would be a man of philosophy, gluttony, and tradition.....a child of the world. But being Gods, I am fruitful in truth, however slow and clumsy my saying of him. Like the things that grow on the earth, there are seasons to the growth of ones soul. I am excited to see what God makes. So in spite of tears and the call to excruciating patience, I abide. Like President Nelson often says, "let God prevail."

That people attack the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is evidence that it is true. But to receive the greater light and knowledge, one must be willing to make a sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit, and receive a witness from God by the power of the Holy Ghost. You hit the nail on the head about Jesus building His church on His rock. I love how you made that connection! After His death and resurrection, He bestowed the authority upon His apostles. As you read the New Testament you see those fissures you spoke of already happening as Peter, Paul, etc. encountered people who needed correction in their thinking about Christ's gospel. Eventually all of the apostles were martered and the authority left, leaving people to create numerous new fractures in the truth of Christ's gospel. If a mirror falls and breaks into pieces, it leaves numerous individual mirrors with numerous perpectives. The only feasible step would be for Christ to restore the mirror (or His gospel) with the apostolic authority. This would be the "restitution of all things" that was spoken of in the book of Acts 3:21. I love the idea of building the rock on common ground between the different sects. But in the end, Christ's truth must prevail.

The testimonies rock my soul. They touch me and change me. Seeing Jesus change humans is a beautiful thing. I love to ask any church person in any church hoe Jesus changed your life...to give me hope. And people calm down and share.

WOW that was a GREAT video!! I love that you let us into your heart and mind with your inspirations that you received in this experience. It’s TRULY INSPIRING!! It was great to hear from you at the rally! I watched it and was impressed. You are a good man. What a unique experience you have had through ALL of this! The Book of Mormon IS the word of God and it’s been unaltered! Reading the Book of Mormon WILL bring people close to Christ which changes their hearts to want to do good, be kind, and be happier! Mosiah 5:2 And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. THIS scripture is exactly what you’re seeing in the people who read the Book of Mormon and try to live by it’s teachings of Jesus Christ. 😊 I love the Bible too but there have also been plain and precious truths removed from it, and some scriptures have been changed long long ago, but it is also important scripture. I love John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. I hope you don’t listen to the MANY naysayers out there who will angrily try and stop you. I know you’ve already dealt with that. I’ve read a lot of your comments. THANK YOU for standing up in your observation of good people who bare good fruit who are trying to be like Jesus Christ. ❤ May you be filled with knowledge and have joy!

The true Church of Jesus Christ was established around 2000 years ago as Jesus promised during the apostles time. But the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was established by Joseph Smith only around 200 years ago. It doesn't take much brain to understand which one is the true Church Of God.

David Alexander is more hyped than he actually deserves. Given his background, he has very insufficient knowledge about Christianity. E.g. he falsely repeats again and again that there are 45.000 denominations, which is a bar misinterpretation of the World Christian Encyclopedia. Cf. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bbynZK533Ku4kqM.html My point shows that David is using wishful thinking to support his blind faith with badly researched "facts". Not a basis for fruitful dialog.

I love all your episodes! Thank you for the great work you are doing! The beautiful thing about the scriptures is how they can have so many meanings. You mentioned Matthew 16:18 where Jesus says to Peter, “upon this rock I will build my church.” I love the different interpretations you talked about. Another interpretation for the rock could be revelation. The previous verse says “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” So “this rock” could be referring back to the experience Peter had with personal revelation. I know that if we ask with a sincere heart and real intent God will reveal truths to us “And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.” (Moroni 10:5) Thanks again for all the good you’re doing! Being LDS, I love hearing about the experiences you’ve been having with my church, but I also love learning about other churches through you. I love how you look for the good everywhere you go! Even though I have found where Christ wants me to be, I am still enjoying your sampler of all the different churches--it is incredibly informative. As a latter-day saint myself I wouldn't call the rally a church, more like a collaborative effort since they are not there to minister to each other and partake of ordinances like the Lord's supper with each other and inspire each other to serve Christ...more to learn from each other temporarily and then go their separate ways (I'm sure they were talking about Christ but that's different than what does Christ specifically need me to do for Him). NOW WHAT I wanted to get to...I know you are taking a break from touring churches but when you pick up there's two churches I think you should stop by for educational reasons (I don't believe in them nor do I think you should convert to them, so hopefully this isn't misunderstood because these churches are REALLY out there--but as a society we need to understand them so we can make informed decisions, AND NO ONE is talking about what their services are like, ANYWHERE, and it's driving me crazy 'cause they are huge movements) The first is an off-label saint-focused Catholic church (you know not pope-approved), like, or probably most likely, Santa Muerte. It is the fastest growing church in the world that says it's Christian that is not a Mega church (those churches are only the fastest growing for a few months, then they settle). The church popped up in just a few years to be the biggest one in Mexico and then they banned it, and the US being very open-minded to, even the Catholics, changing for the incoming crowd: these spiritual refugees are making up the bulk, almost certainly, of the border crossings. Yes some of their congregations are gang controlled but not all of them, some are grass-roots, and some merging with legitimate Catholics. They have a cult label--but since there's no trapped inside a closed community by a charasmatic leader it's just a label to mean off-the-beaten path. We need to understand what's going on because someday we'll wake up and they'll be part of the national conversation. They are almost certainly going to surpass the top three demoninations in the US: catholic, southern baptist, latter-day saint (we've surpassed the united methodists due to their split, but Santa Muerte probably has millions in the US now--and someday the records will show that). The next is a native american church. Now you might think, okay that's not Christian that's a whole different faith, but it's extremely rare nowadays for, even on reservations, for them to be attending their original colonial era faith. Almost all of them attend hybrids or mostly Christian churches, and recently a translation of the bible into their cultural vernacular was just published (you can read about that on religious news service). And yes one of them is actually called the Native American Church. Just like the "are there gang members here", I get that the whole drugs in the service thing might make you squeamish; hopefully observer status is fine. And while I'm on the subject of minorities have you tried a historic black church? (Some of them are really big denominations but their record keeping was off so it's difficult to see how many of them there are but altogether black baptists look like a huge movement). I get that visiting minority churches might risk language barriers and bring in a bit of attention, but I don't think you'll have a repeat of what happened with the Amish since they are not as given up on converts as that group is. I don't want to scare you with something that sounds like a lot of work, I just thought these churches deserved their due attention.

David, you are awesome and I love your videos. You are right that the rock Jesus was referring to when he was talking to Peter has several meanings. There’s another to consider which is revelation by the Holy Ghost. Jesus said, flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto you, but my Father which is in Heaven (Matt 16:17) …upon this rock I will build my church… Something to consider for you and the foundation of the LDS church and it’s members. So foundation = Jesus/prophets/prophecy/Holy Ghost, etc. Same thing that the words in the Bible are based on. Think about that, someone was writing on a blank piece of paper or plates to give us the words in the Bible. Where did that come from?

I want to commend you on your thoughtful approach. I would like to leave three thoughts with you relating to your experience. 1). Christ said that "by their fruits ye shall know them." Ask yourself, "What will disciples of Christ be doing and what will it look like?" 2). Your analogy of a seed being planted came right out of the Book of Mormon. I think you will find it very intriguing (Alma 32:26-43). 3). The passage from the New Testament where Peter is told that Christ's church will be built upon a rock has been misinterpreted to mean that Peter would be the foundation of the church. When you read the passage leading up to this and put it in context it makes more sense. Christ asks Peter who he thought He was. Peter responded that He was the Christ. Peter was then told that flesh and blood (man) had not made it known to him but God had made it known to him by the power of the Holy Spirit and that his church would be built upon truth being confirmed by the Holy Spirit, in other words personal revelation. How can you gain a personal relationship with God without this? When Christ left the apostles he told them that they wouldn't be left on their own, that he would give them the Holy Ghost who would "teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26). The beauty of this is you don't have to take my or anyone else's word for it. If you ask God with a sincere heart, He will confirm it to you through the power of the Holy Ghost. The key is you need to be sincere which means that you are committing to act on the prompting that you receive. DG

If people were looking for perfection in religion "church" umung a fallen imperfect world which we all are, and we found it. Would there be need for faith ? No the churches are imperfected because of man but Jesus is perfection itself. His church will be the most perfect a self sustaining organization, not only self-sustaining but ever expanding. These are my thoughts.

The ultimate question is which church has the full confidence and approbation of Christ himself? He said “if ye are not one, ye are not mine.” We are all responsible to discover the truth for ourselves and we have been told that if we ask God to enlighten us, he will answer. If all churches are His church, why is there so much contention? That was Joseph Smith’s dilemma in 1820. He asked. God answered. There had to be one church that was founded on direct authority from God which would put paid to the conflict and confusion. When the Savior returns we need to present a unified front. So which church are we going to stand behind? Which doctrine are we going to espouse? Read Moroni 10:4-5. Everyone will have to do this by and by.

Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and He will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night, lie down into the Lord that He may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning, let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if you do these things ye shall be lifted up at the last day. From the book of Alma in the book of Mormon 37:37. This is a great verse if you are single and trying to live in our times with so much sin everywhere and work bring so challenging. I hope this verse gives someone hope like it does me. I have a handmade art book of verses from the Old and New Testaments as well, that I have read from cover to cover countless times. The Book of Mormon is full of verses like this and no matter what faults are with Joseph Smith, the people in the church are just like any other church, maybe they pray too much...morning and night and maybe they play too many games on Monday nights with Family Homes Evenings. Maybe they stand up too many times saying how much Jesus helps them in Testamony Sundays. Maybe they sin like everyone else. I just love going to their church and being a member. I love being around sober minded and just sober people. I do not like the no coffee or tea. If they would drop that, no one would have an excuse not to join. 😅

16:53 Complete knowledge or perfect faith have never been requisites to find Truth. You´ve done well by focusing on people among other things. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." (John 13:35). There is a hymn built on this topic that I love. Besides the fruit of love you observe in these people, there are also the fruits brought by the Spirit in you after learning enough to ask our Father about all these things. The answer received in your mind and in your heart will be complemented by a desire not to sin anymore. The more you continually exercise the true faith, pray and obey all commandments, the stronger you will become. That constitutes the strength of The Church. It is founded on Jesus Christ, revelation through the Holy Spirit for both each individual and for the whole Church, authorized servants who have been granted the Priesthood and his Keys and all the things the Lord taught are to be present in His Church.

LDS interpretation of "upon this rock I will build my church" is a bit different, and looks at the verse preceding it for clarification. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I've heard the explanation that the rock is referring to revelation from the Holy Spirit.
