On 23 September 2012, President Boyd K. Packer dedicated the Brigham City Utah Temple, the Church's 139th temple. A recently announced open house for the Calgary Alberta Canada Temple, the Church's 140th temple, runs from 29 September through 20 October 2012. This video explains what Latter-day Saint temples are and how they differ from chapels, where weekly Sabbath worship takes place. AS the church buildings and programs teach us and give us venues to fellowship with other members and feel the spirit, in the temple we transcend this world and the spirit is so strong that we feel closer to God than ever. Sometimes the veil is to thin in the temple that we can actually see those who have gone on and help us from the spirit world. There's nothing on earth like the temples and the transcending work performed there to save our ancestors.

I like to look at Temple work as participating with Jesus Christ in providing and ordinace (Baptism or Marriage Sealing etc) for someone who cant do that for themselves. That is just what Christ did in performing his Atonement (something we cant do ourselves). That makes Temple Service such a act of love and as a way to Come Unto Christ by helping him do his work.

[["spiritual enrichment and being spiritually uplifted, when we go to the temple we think that's what happens for us"]]. For me, it is a place of joy and of being uplifted by Heavenly Father's great love and precious plan of salvation.....I don't THINK that's what happens, I know that's what happens: I'm spiritually enriched and uplifted while in the temple. There is no place on earth that matches the sacred joy of the temple. It fills my soul with great love for my family and fellowman. ("they shall obtain joy and gladness" Isaiah 35:10)

+Robert Olds Here are some of the erroneous and dangerous MORMON teachings (please note that many Mormons reject the book "Mormon Doctrine" but these teachings are also found elsewhere): GOD used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321, Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, vol. 5, p. 613-614, Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, p. 345, Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333). "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s . . . ," (D&C 130:22). God is in the form of a man, (Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3). "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!!! . . . We have imagined that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea and take away the veil, so that you may see," (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345). God the Father had a Father, (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 476, Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 19, Milton Hunter, First Council of the Seventy, Gospel through the Ages, p. 104-105). God resides near a star called Kolob, (Pearl of Great Price, p. 34-35, Mormon Doctrine, p. 428). God had sexual relations with Mary to make the body of Jesus, (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, 1857, p. 218, vol. 8, p. 115). This one is disputed among many Mormons and not always 'officially' taught and believed. Nevertheless, Young, the 2nd prophet of the Mormon church taught it. "Therefore we know that both the Father and the Son are in form and stature perfect men; each of them possesses a tangible body . . . of flesh and bones," (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 38). God, becoming a god After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345-347, 354.) "Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them," (D&C 132:20). God, many gods There are many gods, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163). "And they (the Gods) said: Let there be light: and there was light," (Book of Abraham 4:3). God, mother goddess There is a mother god, (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443). God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit children, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 516). God, Trinity The trinity is three separate Gods: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. "That these three are separate individuals, physically distinct from each other, is demonstrated by the accepted records of divine dealings with man," (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 35). #

LESS THAN ONE PERCENT to charity ! The LDS Church spends roughly $40 million a year in welfare and humanitarian efforts, according to prophet, seer, and revelator Dallin H. Oaks. A number which, if taken at face value, would be something to brag about tremendously…but it’s not. Let us look at some stats: LDS income (through donated tithing): $7 billion/year investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/13/13262285-mormon-church-earns-7-billion-a-year-from-tithing-analysis-indicates LDS charitable contributions: $40 million/year www.deseretnews.com/article/865657898/LDS-Church-welfare-humanitarian-efforts-average-40-million-per-year-apostle-says.html So that puts the LDS Church at .6% of its NON TAXED income going towards charitable contributions. Yes, you read that right, .6% (and that is rounded up). NOT EVEN ONE PERCENT !! Ok, but the church does other things with its money, like take care of temple/church grounds, build more temples/churches, and……. Oh yeah, there was that mall www.nytimes.com/2013/07/10/realestate/commercial/mormon-backed-mall-breathes-life-into-salt-lake-city.html But even after a $2 billion mall, where the hell is all that money going? Not towards taxes, or “non-paid clergy”, and definitely not towards welfare or charity. Though we may never know where the money goes, let’s look at how the LDS Church compares to actual fortune 500 companies, who pay taxes and thousands of employees, when it comes to following the light of Christ and giving to those in need. Just for the record, we are looking at cash giving, not the value of free products given by a company. Source: www.businessinsider.com/most-generous-companies-in-america-2015-2016-6/#11-goldman-sachs-15 All data is from 2015. Pepsi: Pre-tax profits: $7.44 billion Cash donations: $56.4 million (.75%) Coca Cola: Pre-tax profits: $9.61 billion Cash donations: $117.3 million (1.2%) General Mills: Pre-tax profits: $1.76 billion Cash donations: $105 million (5.97%!!!) Goldman Sachs: Pre-tax profits: $8.78 billion Cash donations: $276.41 million (3.15%) Please note that the mentioned profits above are not the companies' entire revenue. But simply the profit that company had for the year. The list goes on and on. My question, now more than ever, is where does the LDS Church spend all its money? Where does the thousands of dollars members are REQUIRED to pay every year go? Why is the church so secretive with the money GIVEN TO IT? Not to mention the corporate income the church gets, is also secret and often tax exempt, which is used for…who knows what. My biggest concern is this. Why do the leaders of the “one true church”, following Christ’s example, think that giving less than 1% to those in need is in any way acceptable? You mean to tell me the LDS Church is less charitable than Goldman Sachs!?!?! I’m not saying these companies have any more care for those in need. I am sure a huge majority of the donations made by companies are simply for tax benefits. Yet I wonder how the church’s charitable donations would compare if they were taxed like the corporation they truly are? sources: www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/7lhw9u/lds_church_charitable_contributions_less_than/ In June 2016, during a lecture given at the University of Oxford, England, Elder Dallin H. Oaks, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the LDS Church said that the Church spends around US$40 million on humanitarian, welfare, and other charity projects, worldwide, each year. It has been doing that for the past 30 years. Also, volunteers from the Church devote millions of hours of labor each year to assist in the projects. Read more at World Religion News: "LDS Church has Spent 1.2 Billion on Welfare and Humanitarian Efforts" www.worldreligionnews.com/?p=29124 #

No one will probably ever see this but I have a question for the general faith of LDS Mormon. So according to your teachings God creates a spiritual form for every person before they are born, a “celestial body” if you will. Then, they are born and live on earth with the concept of sin to then be reunited with God in heaven if he deems them worthy due to his good graces and humbleness. So my question is, why, in Gods all loving nature, would he send his own children down to earth to possibly sin and never be reunited with him in heaven? What then is even the point of sending us down to earth if he loves us so much that he wants us to be in heaven with him again?

Hi there, thanks for your thoughtful question. We believe mortality is necessary for us to become like God. We don’t have all the answers, but we know that using God-given agency, we chose to come to earth for the opportunity to experience mortality to ultimately become more like our Heavenly Father, knowing and accepting it would involve pain and difficulty. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins and secure a way back to Him despite this fallen world. You can learn more about God’s plan for His children and the role of Jesus Christ here: www.comeuntochrist.org/beliefs/purpose-of-life/purpose-of-life?cid=42001274 If you have more questions, we have wonderful missionaries that would love to help answer those. But only if you've handed over the cash first. Never mind how spiritual you might be, if that cash isn't paid up front, you don't get over the doorstep. What a materialistic con your 'church' is. Do some research, find out the truth.

I'm sure individual mormo ns are good, well- meaning people but the 'church' operates in a way that exerts control at all sorts of levels for the sole benefit of the bottom line - extracting max cash. Majority of that's spent on land & property. Tiny little fraction spent on humanitarian work. & they mislead, even lie. For example, starts v young with stories of Joseph & his wife Emma. No mention of the (documented, verifiable if you choose to seek it out) other 33 women he was married to. 9 of whom were already married to other men. & 3 were young girls who'd been handed over by their parents cos Joseph told them they'd receive blessings. Helen Mar Kimball was 1 of them. Please do some research.

It sounds like the Federal Government! Or perhaps the government of the People's Republic of China. You might want to get a copy of The Secrets of life or Silent Power by Stuart Wilde . Learn to detach and not judge. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch onto the affirmative, don't mess with Mr. Inbetween. You-tube music has it on file. I like Ella Fizgerald version of it. Ta-Ta Cheers. Om-Shanti-Om Shaloooommm

Acts 17:24-25 24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

The children of Israel worshipped a golden calf after Moses came down from Sinai. Moses warned against this, thou shalt not bow down to idols . We make temples with the best materials, the best of everything for God, because we give our best to him. We dont worship the Angel Moroni, or Joseph Smith, but we do worship the Father and the Son, and give of our best to him. If you put your scripture in some context, the Greeks built buildings and statues for their Gods, and even had a monument to the Unknown God. At the time of the institution of Christ's church, temples were not on the Earth, that had to be restored 1800 years later with the fulness of the gospel. So at the time, Jesus did not have buildings for the saints to worship in, so Paul says, as if God needed his followers to build buildings or temples. Also God does not physically dwell within these modern temples, but the temple is the closest place to Heaven on Earth.

Dave Cowan actually there was a Temple in Jerusalem at the time and Jesus and the Apostles spent a lot of time there before Jesus' death and the Apostles continued to spend time there after his death although the need for animal sacrifice had ended.

As an LDS person, the John 3:16 pandering during the typical Sunday worship service was pretty corny

Though it makes sense to put that in. Many people don't understand that members of the church are Christians and believe in and use the Bible. It's a familiar thing that people will recognize. Makes perfect sense... corny or not LOL

Sorry, but most Christians don't consider "Mormonism" to be Christian.

True, and that is precisely what I was saying. They need to realize that true Mormons are very much Christians. I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. It is only through Him that we can be saved from sin and death. Hopefully people will start to realize the love that true members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have for the Savior, and that we are indeed Christians :-)

What did Joseph Smith know and not tell us when he said: "Brethren, if I were to tell you all I know of the kingdom of God, I do know that you would rise up and kill me. " What revelations did he not show the Latter Day Saints? "If I was to show the Latter Day Saints all the revelations that the Lord has shown unto me, there is scarce a man that would stay with me, they could not bear it." Why could they not bear it? Could we bear it today? Who was Joseph Smith and what did he know that would lead his brethren to kill him? “Would to God, brethren, I could tell you WHO I am! Would to God I could tell you WHAT I know! But you would call it blasphemy and want to take my life!" Who knows the answers to these questions and why we have never been told them? Why doesn't the temple reveal these things?

Thanks for the comment, Scott. But it would be WORTH IT to know what Joseph Smith knew that would cause the Brethren of the church to KILL him, especially since what he knew related to the Kingdom of God; and the revelations would be IMPORTANT to know what revelations would case the SAINTS to abandon Joseph and NOT BEAR IT; and it would be GOOD to know who Joseph was and what he knew that would cause the BRETHREN to call it blasphemy and want to take his life.
