Latter-day Saints in Japan are reflecting on the history of the first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Asia.
The Tokyo Japan Temple, which first opened in 1980, will reopen in July following an extensive renovation that started in September 2017.
Temples are sacred spaces for members of the Church. They are considered houses of God, places of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world.
Temples provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also places where the highest sacraments of the faith occur - the marriage of couples and the “sealing” of families for eternity.
Whenever The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constructs a new temple, a dedication ceremony is held when the building is finished. Before the temple is dedicated, an open house is often held for the general public. After the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful members of the Church.

oh how I love this! a temple is a very tangible sign that the Lord has recognized the hard & dedicated efforts of the saints ~ it is the earthly reward for heavenly efforts. What a loving Savior and Heavenly Father we have, to let us enjoy these eternal covenant benefits! ❤❤❤

My father served a mission in Japan in the 60s. I grew up feeling a deep respect and love for the Japanese people because my father did. Thank you for sharing this beautiful history and temple.

At the 20 second point in this great video wonderful Sister Maeda is introduced as she practices on the organ. I used to attend the Shibuya Ward with her. Unfortunately, in that part of the video her surname is misspelled as Mida in the subtitles. I hope the Church’s YT expert can revise the spelling. I served as an ordinance worker while Elder Kikuchi was the temple president and witnessed at least two miracles at his hands. Yep, the Church is true.

What a wonderful story! I was there for the dedication as all missionaries in Japan were invited. Such memories. As an aside note, I wish the narrator would have found out how to pronounce Sis. Maeda's first name. It's almost correct, but the accent is on the first syllable, not the second. As a matter of fact, the second syllable is the least emphasized one. But thank you for making this video just the same.
