▶︎ ABOUT THIS TRIP
In April 2024, we explored the Beagle channel for 58 days onboard “TUPAIA”, our Dufour 35 from 1974. We started in Puerto Williams, the southernmost town in the world and sailed West, passing Ushuaia surrounded by wildlife, including whales, sea lions, a variety of seabirds and even orcas! At Punta Divide, the Beagle splits in two arms. We entered the Northwestern one (Brazo Noroeste), also known as the Glaciers Avenue. High mountains, steep slopes and snowy peaks from the Cordillera Darwin dominate both shores of the channel. We visited three out of the four islets opening along the N shore: Seno Pia, Seno Garibaldi, and Seno Ventisquero, each hiding huge rivers of ice rumbling into the sea. Though already a bit late in the season, we managed to sail TUPAIA through the dense floating ice and got quite close to the enormous seracs. After three weeks, we left Brazo Noroeste and explored Brazo Suroeste, on the other side of Isla Gordon. Thanks to a great autumn weather, we made the best of the many anchorage possibilities and the beautiful hikes offered by the less steep surroundings, even though some caletas were already frozen and the snow was more than knee-deep at times. In Estéros 1000 cascadas, Coloane, and Fouque, we sailed passed a couple of tidal and suspended glaciers that sadly seemed to be melting pretty fast. On the final stretch back to Puerto Williams, we made a few detours to visit more remote anchorages.

I rarely ever comment on a KZfaq video, but this is by far, some of the most spectacular footage of any sailing, even nature channel. Stellar cinematography, color grading, editing, storytelling, scoring, and just overall inspiration. As someone who will be making a similar trip, I am equal parts inspired and anxiously awaiting your next upload. Impressive, to say the least. I don’t understand how this caliber of visual storytelling is free - this is documentary filmmaking at its finest; capturing the world around us. Merci to you both for this.

Your video is simply breathtaking. As a passionate explorer, Tupaïa would have been proud to see how you capture the wonders of nature with such finesse and stunning image quality. Your choice to let the landscapes speak for themselves, without narration or prominent faces, creates a uniquely immersive experience. The absence of commentary enhances the sensory experience and allows us to fully feel the majesty of Patagonia. It is a true privilege to discover these places through your eyes. Your work far surpasses what is typically seen in professional documentaries. As Hans Zimmer highlights, "the soundtrack acts as the emotional backbone of the film. It has the power to resonate deeply with the viewer and transform each scene into an unforgettable experience." Thank you for offering us these moments of pure beauty and reminding us of the pristine splendor of our planet. Continue capturing these magical moments and surprising us with your unique talent and boundless creativity. With all my admiration, Seb

Hello again Lauric 🇫🇷 and Nao 🇯🇵 Congratulations on your recent cruise with the highlight surely bring rounding Cape Horn . You have become part of a select group to achieve this . I dare say there was some celebrations 🍾🍻🎈at Puerto Williams on your return . I can’t wait to see the video . I was chuffed to receive your response for my comment . Thank you for taking the time . My ‘eye ‘ for your upgrades comes from a lifetime of amateur boatbuilding and more recently , the last two years preparing my 1984 S&S 39 for a prolonged getaway . I completely understand what is involved regarding time , effort and money. So many viewers will only see your spectacular footage and rightfully comment on its superb quality and presentation. … Not many comment on the ‘elephant in the room ‘which is the fact that over the years you have upgraded , shaken down, prepared yourselves and then sailed to these remote places two up before your camera gear is unpacked … it’s impressive to say the least . Congratulations once again on Cape Horn. Look after your boat … look after yourselves … but most importantly , look after each other . Geoff🇦🇺

WOW! What a beautiful film. I sailed the Beagle Channel back in 2009, so it was wonderful to see familiar anchorages and inlets. Interestingly some of the glaciers that I photographed 15 years ago look very much the same: Hollanda, Romanch etc. which I can only hope is an encouraging sign. Well done.

I was aboard HMS LEOPARD back in the early 1960’s when she was the first British warship to traverse the Beagle Channel since HMS Beagle took Charles Darwin through.
