LIVE COVERAGE: Robert Durst Testifies Live For The Murder of Friend Susan Berman
Robert Durst stands trial for the 2000 murder of friend Susan Berman. The trial began just before the pandemic in early 2020 and was halted two weeks in. The restart happened on May 17, 2021, with the same jury panel.
The defendant’s wife Kathleen McCormack Durst went missing in 1982. Evidence and testimony would show that Robert Durst killed her, the prosecutor said. The defendant allegedly told Berman it was an accident and asked her for help. She served as his alibi.
Berman, 55, was shot execution-style at her Beverly Hills home in 2000, and the prosecution suggested that it was because of what she knew about Kathleen’s death and disappearance. As defense lawyer Dick DeGuerin would have it, however, Durst is innocent. His client only came across the body, panicked, and fled, he maintained.

This whole trial is the most unprofessional trial I’ve ever seen. The judge is incompetent. It comes off as he’s not paying attention as he goes back and rereads testimony out loud in a mumbly voice when there’s an objection. Last clip the defense objected and he didn’t even know what the objection met so he just overruled it.

Lewin-ator is doing what he does best. This is exactly why he has such a crazy conviction rate on cold cases. He has a plan. I read an article that interviewed Lewin and he said he goes into cross with a plan in mind and he is executing the plan beautifully.

I know what article you’re talking about. It also confirmed what I had suspected about Lewin-he has an extremely obsessive personality. That’s why he excels at cold cases, which take years & years of exhausting digging, connecting pieces etc. The most frequent comment I’ve read about him, given by other attorneys, is that his prep before questioning witnesses is unparalleled.

@@stacyhenry5578 Hi Stacy. You know Durst is reading the questions before he answers because he has a hearing problem. I think the questions the prosecutor is asking are silly and they don't prove that he is a liar or not. Ex. The prosecutor pointing out Durst said he was playing with a Frisbee before they were made. That doesn't prove Durst is a liar which is what the prosecutor is trying to establish. It proves he may have forgotten the item they played with. Durst is probably guilty....who knows. The prosecutor is going to take forever to try and prove it.

I still can't wrap my mind around Durst saying that he only said that he dragged her out by her hair because the someone from the Jinx movie said that he had to sound interesting but they also promised him to look like a good guy during the editing of the movie. That makes zero sense. Like, is that where his mind goes when told to be more interesting? He couldn't think of any other way or does he honestly believes such a story would be viewed as interesting? In either case, that's clear proof of something screwy in his mind.
@horsluvr23

Right, he's an intelligent guy. I get being told "You're not interesting enough, you need to say things to make yourself interesting." Without that even being said though, to be told to lie and say you did something violent when you didn't, even if the case was over never to be reopened why would you agree to make yourself look worse with the promise of being interesting? There's lots of ways to seem more interesting that don't involve saying you did violent things. He knows this.

Mr. Durst reacts immediately to the form of investigation applied by Mr. Lewin. As in private life, he does not accept to be caught on the wrong foot. Mr. Lewin's tactic is to ask questions about a general situation and then target exactly the action related to the question. That drives Mr. Durst crazy. He wants to tell stories and be listened to.

Jinx is useful to Mr. Lewin. Durst behaved there like the raven in the fable the raven and the fox. Mr. Lewin learned the script extraordinarily well, and now Mr. Durst's crow swallows hard, receiving only checkmate. He praised himself, now he is receiving his punishment. Each story is applied to Mr. Durst's actions, proving that he is capable of anything, under certain conditions.

People are saying that the prosecutor's line of questioning is ridiculous because most of it is not relevant to the case and hence a waste of time. I think the prosecutor is aware that many of his questions are not entirely relevant but I think he's doing it to show what kind of person Durst is rather than the fake personality he's showing on the stand.
