Thanks for the video and great info as there is very little info out there on these light connectors under the seat. I have a MZT-61 that I’m going to do when I get the free time so I can cut at night when needed. I just ordered that same lights as you sense I know they won’t draw to much. Got all 4 lights for 28$ so had to do it! Hopefully it goes smooth as yours did. Thanks again for the video!

Happy to hear you found the video useful, I’m sure the setup will work well for ya. You’ll be in the zone cutting in the cool night air before you know it… 👍

This is a great mod. I have a regular 2006ish craftsman lawn tractor and once one of the bulbs died (lots of lawn mowers use a common reverse light bulb socket for vehicles, for the headlights) I replaced them both with some random JDM “reverse light” led bulbs which aren’t even that much brighter. So I have been thinking about putting a couple of these pods on the front of the frame under the hood. Two concerns with that is clearance for the hood when open which doesn’t look like much, and also tons of heat from the muffler killing the leds and melting wires. Other than that, the headlight circuit on my mower is 12v/5amps (from mower alternator only when running) so I figure two auxbeam pods should still stay within amperage rating of the circuit after disabling the main headlights.

Sounds like your on the right track... This setup has worked out great for my application, no overdraw or charging issues thus far.

I have this same mower but a 60"... Did you install a switch to turn on the lights or are they tied to ignition and run all the time?
@Yellowdogsworld
@Yellowdogsworld 5 жыл бұрын
The way mine works, first position turns on the lights and ignition. The second position turns lights off ignition on, and third is the starter. So yes its wired into the key switch and you can run the mower with or without the lights on.

Bet your neighbors love you. Maybe a set of lights for the rear?
@Yellowdogsworld
@Yellowdogsworld 4 жыл бұрын
LOL... well fortunately I'm out in the country were my neighbors are far and few between :) I did think about adding a light in the rear but I never really need to look behind me when cutting, but It would not be hard to add.

Do you find more bugs than normal attracted to you because of the lights? Or are they low enough it doesn't matter?

Not really, I guess if you stood still long enough but that's not really going to happen to much

Did you put any relays any fuses? Rocker switches? You didn't show any of that in your video how it's actually wired
@Yellowdogsworld
@Yellowdogsworld 2 жыл бұрын
I did not have to add any additional switches or relays since I tied these lights into the factory headlight circuit that was already in place.

How much of a draw or lighting can you use before the charging system can't keep up and you have a dead battery
@Yellowdogsworld
@Yellowdogsworld 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know how much current it would take to over burden the charging system. The factory circuit is 10 amps max, these lights are pulling around 50 % of that so I would say its fine. I've run them a good bit at night and no dead battery yet :)
@chrisworld2
@chrisworld2 3 жыл бұрын
Usually the headlight circuits and charging circuits are separate, unless that’s different for this type of mower. As an example mine has 12v/5a headlights and a 12v/3a for trickle charging the battery. I’m not sure how drawing from the other circuit could affect the charging but I’m sure anything could happen. But with 12v/3a going into the battery, you could technically draw way more than that from the battery directly where the charging can’t keep up anymore. That’s why I’d try to just stay within the rating of something like a headlight circuit. I actually wired a 12 volt socket to my headlight circuit one time and charged my phone with a car charger while mowing one time lol.

That is one fine set up you put together. I am glad you shared this with us. However, I have one suggestion to help improve your lighting system for especially at night when it seems you're not going to be using any other lights. Have you thought of attaching lights to the back of your machine to help you see what is behind you? I've used a flashlight when mowing at night to see to side of me and behind me but it's a whole lot better when you have lights installed on the back of your mower.
@Yellowdogsworld
@Yellowdogsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've given that some thought... the electrical system would support 2 more off the back if I really wanted to add them. I haven't needed them that much for backing simply because i'm more likely to just spin it around anyway... BUT if i did put them on the back,,, boy that would be one lite up yard :)
@lwbrkr
@lwbrkr 4 жыл бұрын
I too cut at night. You may realize you need to see when you're backing up. I would add a light in the back of your mower too.

I have a ZT54 and was going to add LED lights but then I asked myself, why? With the exception of running away from a Walking Dead invasion at 2AM I don't see myself out mowing the South Pasture at night. Heck, doing it in daylight is boring enough. LOL.

LMAO, I didn't think about the pending 2am hoard of zombies, that's even more reason to have those lights. I end up cutting past dusk more often than not, in my case I flip the switch and keep rolling until I'm done :)

The main reason for this video was to demonstrate wiring the lights. Poor video, useless, unless you want to see a guy driving around at night on his ZTM .

You missed the part about verifying the amp load to ensure this will not blow the 10 amp fuse, or screw up your charging system by pulling too much current. The point was a setup that will work within the confines of the factory-installed lighting circuit, which provides lighting where you need it W/O melting down the electrical system. thanks for commenting 😁
