Man-talking babies, a Windows XP screensaver, a glowing honeycomb sphere, and three brand new characters! The Corbomite Maneuver has it all! Lawnie waxes lyrical about the "Bones" of what makes this third episode of Trek so awesome.

My dad got me a tape recorder for my 10th birthday just days before it aired on TV. I recorded the audio and listened to over and over for a couple of weeks before erasing it and recording music.

I did that with as many of the TOS eps as I could, and never erased them. I'd sneak my little tape player under the blanket and listen to my favourites with my little mono earphone at night! 😊

I never got to see the Star Trek TOS tv series series until it was in re-runs when I was 6 yrs old at the start of the 70s It was my favourite Scifi tv show only mind you I only saw it on a little B&W tv set in my room every Saturday at noon EST.

"TRANYA" is nothing more than "TANG" IF you are old enough to remember it back in the day? It is nothing more than powdered fake orange juice. however it does taste pretty good. if you like that sort of stuff though.

Yes but look how thick it is when he's drinking it and you can see it's mixed with something else pear juice to give it some kind of pulp or thickness

I'd say this is probably one of my first real favourite episodes of TOS. Uhura in a gold uniform is a bit odd when you're so used to seeing her in red! One thing to pay attention to as you go through, when is the first mention of the Federation, because I think for the first few episodes, it wasn't a thing, it was more Earth centric. I also think Bailey in this episode is how anyone in Discovery should've been handled when they get emotional. Notice how everyone is acting like a professional, Bailey is an understandable outlier but by the end of it, finds his courage. Also awesome to think how long Clint Howard has been a part of Star Trek right through to the current modern era!

At first I thought you were going to say that we get introduced to the Spock we would see for the rest of the show. Not the emotional Spock of The Cage, or the cold and shouty Spock of Where No Man Has Gone Before, but the Spock we would come to love. That's one big reason why I think TOS should be watched in production order, rather than broadcast order. Years ago I heard a podcast about how the crew in this episode exhibits the various stages of grief, as described by Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, I believe. Not sure if that was intentional, but it's interesting to watch the episode with that in mind.

My thoughts exactly I didn't know at first when I first saw them as a child however as I became an adult I too realized that something was wrong in "the look" of the TOS series episodes cause it went old looking to new looking especially in "Charlie X" after "Man Trap" to old looking in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and has been is mentioned "The Corbormite Maneuver" but yoy know Studio Executives always get their way when it comes to movies and television.

I totally agree. This episode was better than both pilots and Should have been the premier episode instead of the Man Trap. This episode introduces the crew, their hierarchy and positions in a great way. It also demonstrates exactly what starfleets mission is. One of my favorites

Well I wouldn't say that cause Where No Man Has Gone Was pretty intriguing A story about ESP and how it can corrupt anyone with so much power that he thinks himself as a God. also there are REAL FIGHT scenes with Shatner and Gary Lockwood NOT stunt doubles like in other TOS episodes.

When I think about Star Trek, this episode is the first that comes in my mind. It certainly is my favorite.

My favourite is Balance Of Terror" however it is not the first that comes to mind. The Star Trek TOS episode that first comes to mind is "The Changeling" (aka Nomad) and the first "aired" episode of the TOS series"The Man Trap".

One of the best episodes. I believe it was the first episode made for the weekly series, after The Cage and Where No Man....

I've seen him all grown up He's in a I believe in a Film "The Wrath" with Charlie Sheen as a Ghost in a super sports car that came to settle a score after his crash. It's an old cult flick though.

YES he was in a lot of westerns before Star Trek TOS as well as a few other actors from old westerns tv series. Like "Deela" in "Wink of an Eye" and "Veena" From well it is up to you to say if "The Menagerie" or the made for Star Trek tv Pilot is really an episode. Big Debate?

@@VinnieCruz-jt7zm That's what I've been tellimg to many of star trek fans for years. it is (or was "tang") powdered 🍊 orange drink for people who knew about and or drank it in the 60s or 70s more the latter.
