I have stopped watching TV news for about 25 years now. And when KZfaq first started showing clips or whole videos, on news, I started watching only KZfaq videos, at my own time & leisure. Ever since Lawrence took over from the other guy, the one who did COUNT DOWN --- whom I liked a lot, too (the guy with glasses whose name I can't recall just now) --- I have watched almost entirely just Lawrence clips. There is something odd about Lawrence that I have found to be fascinating. He's not a "news" man reporting on "news" like he used to do on live TV broadcast. Here, he's more like an opinion guy, doing commentary and editorial thoughts ABOUT news and events and issues. For the format he's doing, Lawrence has the perfect style. He shows a perfect blending of quick witted, temperamental, and yet thoughtful approach to personal commentary.... He uses his PERSONAL experience and history of growing up knowing minorities (he is of Irish background, I believe.... so he learned from his own father and ancestors of being Irish and being discriminated against, from the UK to the US in history) and how minorities struggle, with him being a witness and a participant in some of those struggles.... when it comes to how he collates & constructs his nightly and daily commentary pieces... Yet, he uses those personal anecdotes MORE COGENTLY and only because those personal backgrounds advance a larger point he's trying to make.... That means the extrapolation techniques he uses are sound ones. For example, when he said, passionately, with anger and with insight that "that's how White men fight" ---- when he recalled how he and his brother helped Black friends who were hurt by White men in his youth ---- he's doing it quite fairly. He is a White man himself (probably a bad fighter, in his youth).... so he has no reason to fake it like Tucker Carlson! On the other hand, when Sarah Palin or Tucker Carlson said BS like "Global Warming, what is that? It is SNOWING here, where I live.... and it is in the middle of Summer.... " you KNOW Sarah Palin or Tucker is just blurting out PURE RED HERRING that have nothing to do with the real (& larger, more complex) issue.
