A Henderson man who has been dealing with an ongoing HOA dispute over an anti-Biden bumper sticker is now getting some legal help.

HOAs are almost always run by power-hungry Karens. I bought a home in a neighborhood shortly after an HOA war that blew up and disbanded the HOA. What was so attractive about the neighborhood was that it would require a 100 percent homeowner agreement to reinstate and reactivate the association. I made sure that prior to closing the association was still inactive, and coming up on 25 years now, I have enjoyed the power found in the word "no" ever since the close. I'd never live under an HOA, one of my daughters was forced to change the color of her curtains because they appeared "too purple." Honestly, I'd be suspect of anybody who'd actually want to live under such an association. In the meantime here, if I want to rile up the Karens, I can stick pink flamingos in my yard and they'll just need to go to their "safe space" and find a means to cope!

I live in a place with a great, minimalist HOA. They ask for minimal dues and don't bug anyone. None of my neighbors would put up with it anyway. With the fund they maintain (and disclose), they keep flowerbeds nice at the 2 entrances to the neighborhood, and pay for graduation banners that go up at the 2 entrances. I once got a nastygram on my bad-looking 1994 impala about "junk cars", so I took the HOA president out on the highway really early on a Saturday and convinced him it wasn't a junk car at about 150mph. He didn't bug me again. It is sad about all the stories I read about HOAs telling people what kind of grass they can grow, colors they can paint their houses, etc. The stories of Marine combat vets being told to take down their stars & stripes and marine corps flags are astonishing....and LETS GO BRANDON!

My mother n laws HOA leaves notes and complaints if she don't get her garbage cans back in the garage fast enough after the truck comes. I don't know why anyone would want to live anywhere with a HOA. But I choose not to live by anyone anyways. It's a country life for me.

This is why I will not live anywhere that has a HOA. Years ago I worked in a glass shop. A woman brought in her storm door to have the glass replaced. The existing glass was not broken, in fact the glass had a nice beveled design etched into it. I asked her why she would do that and she said the HOA only allows plain clear glass.

@762 the 1stendment only protects fre speech from government intervention. It allows free criticism of government. Private entities are allowed to dictate codes of conduct. Since the homeowner entered the agreement of his own volition, he has agreed to limit his expression of speech in the contractually mandated ways. Free speech does not equal speech without repercussion. It means speech without fear of government retaliation or imprisonment. Also, there are limitations even there; go yell fire in a theater lemme know how that works out.

than don’t buy and rent in one. it’s important to make sure there isn’t an HOA before you sign papers. HOAs have been know to make extra ass rules. don’t feel bad for him one bit, you know the deal with you sign a lease or buy a house in a HOA. as someone who is looking to rent rn anyways, my number one is to make sure there isn’t any HOA so people can’t tell me what to do only the owner. although i agree HOAs are stupid, you know what you sign up for when you find a place with HOAs
