I assume their buttons to activate: Water for cleansing, Air for drying, Talcum powder to avoid chaffing. Similar to the bidet used in Europe. They have ones with pressurized water and air. I guessed at the Talcum based on how you do for a baby: wet wipe, air dry, baby powder. I've never seen it confirmed, but makes sense.

The judicial system doesn't use cryogenic prisons because cryogenics doesn't work, we don't have that kind of technology. Demolition Man is science fiction, it was released in the early '90s theorizing 1996 (mid '90s) that Los Angeles became a demilitarized zone (yes, I know, a wild future prediction for 2-4 years, the 1990s did that a lot in sci-fi cinema). At any rate.... it's just a movie.

Another VHS I watched far too young. Wesley Snipes as Phoenix was one of my earliest memories of seeing a crazy / silly villain, making wise cracks and being a psychotic goofball.

I loved the totally over the top sarcasm of this movie, plus the incredible cheesiness of the one-liners. They were the ultimate comic representation of villains and heroes dishing it out with each other. So great. Oh, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger library was Stallone's nod to him, who had also just finished Last Action hero, with an awesome Stallone quasi-cameo in it. Both have a friendly competition ongoing, but in real life feed off each others' ideas.

If you think this is crazy, watch Cobra (1986) (it's not as over the top, but it does have Sly cutting a cold pizza with scissors, while he sits at home, cleaning his gun, with sunglasses on). Fun fact: Cobra was made after Stallone didn't like the script for Beverly Hills Cop (so the gave it to Eddie Murphy), and went on to make his own version, which ended up being Cobra.

Yeah, the 3 seashells bathroom appliance was a joke circulation around various Sci-Fi movies and TV shows in the 90s. They purposely never revealed the mechanics of the system in the shows, that was the unspoken punch line.

There´s several fun facts about this movie that really turns it into a very smart action movie. See, the society of San Angeles is very much inspired by the book "Brave new world" which is a dystopia. Lenina Huxleys name is a clear reference to that because one of the characters in Brave new world is named Lenina Crown and the author is Aldous Huxley. Also, Simon Phoenix even yells it out in the movie. "Such a Brave new world! Sorry you gotta go!" Another fun fact is that Edgar Friendly was originally supposed to be named Thomas Paine, which is the same name as an old philosopher who wrote the book "Common Sense" which pretty much sums up everything that Edgar Friendly stands for. Also, his speech about individual liberty is amongst my favourite movie speeches of all time.

The explosion and demolition of the building at the beginning are real, in the 90s such a production deployment in action movies was very common, the same was done in Lethal Weapon 3 where a real building also collapses, today that is no longer done , unfortunately they do everything in CGI and it is not believable.

The dress Sandra Bullock wears at Taco Bell was so heavy that it ended up tearing which after the fight is why her arms are at her side. She’s trying to keep the dress on.

According to the writer, the idea with the 3 seashells is that you use 2 of them to "pinch off" when you're done, and the 3rd one to scrape whatever's left. I'm guessing they never went into it because that system clearly doesn't work.

I just had to look it up and found that too!!! They use 2 to chopstick and pull gently it out then used the 3rd to scrape the rest 🤮. Do you get new seashells after? Or are you supposed to clean them off and reuse them ? 🤢

That sounds more primitive than our method to be honest. I always imagined they were just buttons that activated three stages of an automatic toilet cleaning function. We already have smart toilets in Japan with washers/driers onboard.. so it's just an evolution of that

Editor's note: I watched the UK version first. Many years ago. It was, indeed, Pizza Hut. Watching it with the girls, while recording the video, I kept thinking that my memory was corrupted until I looked it up.

I remember watching this on a damn bootleg vhs tape as a young kid. I was just thinking,"this is so absurd!". But, fast forward to the present, it's f'n scary how some of this is actually what is going on right now!?!? Ugh, wtf happened... LMAO! Great reaction, though.

Thanks for watching with us! A fun little backstory for you. I (Max, editor) first saw this movie when I was a teenager on a Russian bootleg VHS. On those Russian tapes, every character was dubbed by the same guy, who made his voice sound higher for female characters.

John Spartan met his daughter in the scene when they went underground. When Phoenix shoots at him underground, when Spartan flings himself against the wall thats his daughter he is shielding. Its a subplot they didnt leave in the movie, but still filmed

Since there was no Taco Bell in the UK at this time all the restraints were Pizza Hut in the European release of the film.

Why they don't just program the prisoners immediately and free them? My guess is that society requires retribution or punishment. People wouldn't be happy about killers immediately released.

Yay!!!! This is one of my favorite movies. Wesley Steals the show , they had to ask him to slow down his martial arts because he’s too darn fast. Pretty amazing. And Sandra was perfect as the innocent sidekick.

Fun little fact the Arnold Schwarzenegger Presidential library line was actually left out of Sylvester Stallone's version of The script it was meant to be a shock punch to Stallone. Also I kind of disagree as long as Taco Bell still has the chicken and steak quesadillas I'm pretty content with them

Strange side note about this movie is in the cryo prison when it is listing inmates names it lists Scott Peterson who was convicted of murdering his wife 11 years after this movie came. Also Stallone said in a interview that the three seashells work something like chopsticks
