Low dropout basically means that the LDO can still regulate the output voltage, even when the input voltage is very close to the output voltage. But what is the difference between a PMOS type LDO and a NMOS type LDO? Why is it better to choose a NMOS type LDO for applications with Vin lower than 2.5V? In which applications can an LDO replace a Buck converter? Find out more in the tutorial video. For more information, please visit bit.ly/30vccjp

Helpful as I'm entering the semiconductor/consumer electronics field. Understanding the customer needs is key to finding success in this profession.

Thanks for the explanation of why regulation suffers when the drop across the LDO gets too small. Also, the explanation of why NMOS regulators require more bias current b/c of the charge pump.

very nice video. I searched on youtube for so many videos to understand LDO. Most of the videos explain in a way that it confused me a lot. OR may be LDO operation is so simple that lecturer does not do well in explaining. But your video is perfect, a well rounded explanation and with a good pace + diagrams. Thanks.

Just for completeness:There is also some power dissipation due to the bias current in the LDO that flows out of the ground pin. VIN * Ibas or VIN * (I_in - I_out). For an LDO supplying 100 mA at 3.0V from a 3.7V supply, with a bias current of (e.g.) 200 uA, the dissipation from bias is 3.7*0.2mA = 0.74 mW. The dissipation due to load current is 0.7*100mA = 70mW. 0.74 of 70.74 mW (~1%) probably isn't significant.

It looks so simple,but.. This shouldn’t be applied to mobile phones!🤔 I always feel that this is very similar to the design concept of op + voltage regulator + transistor I think this is great. A junior college should have such a basic design ability!🥹
