Louis XIV actually composed some of his own dances with music and was known to be quite a fine dancer and compiser. He was a man of many talents.

Love this movie, the king talks about how music can rebuild nations, he talks about a relation between art and power. I'm applying this principle in myself to rebuild my own life after several years of depression, but through painting. But I've been also listening to some good music and watching empowering movies (like this). Beauty empowers you.

Oh gosh, my husband passed away nearly two years ago but before that there was considerable trauma because of illness and dementia. I am just rediscovering my voice which had gone rusty due to unused muscles. I realize that I need this as a catharsis and also therapy in spite of the fact that as a musician I do play piano and try to practice that every day. However, the voice is more personal and comes from a deeper well spring.

The actor who plays the sun king was chosen well, he has the slightly long pale face known to be a strong trait amongst the royal of blood. What an exquisitely rich renaissance like portrait of a life lived well. Bravo! 👏

The thing which Lully is playing, like a violin ,I need that. What is it called?
@OsirisIxchel2 жыл бұрын
The Arabian rabab and the rebec, which came from the orient in the middle ages and was played widely in Spain and France in the fifteenth century, are said to be the ancestors of the violin. Near the end of the middle ages, a bowed stringed instrument called a fiddle appeared in Europe.

@@goblondie - you have to look around the web... I googled, & I did find a version dubbed in Spanish, but that’s OK because I’m all about Costume & the music, which I have loved for a long time... Amazon (UK) stock a DVD, which I’d really enjoy, except that it costs £60! I hope this is helpful, as I don’t know which part of the world you are posting from... May I recommend a film that you might enjoy, which I think is still available; it’s called ‘Touts les Matins du Monde’, which is less about dance, & lacks the demonic presence of M. de Lully, but the music (by Jorde Savall) is sublime! The movie traces the style, from the rather severe early Baroque (Puritanical - black garb, snowy-white collars), to the flummery of the Court at Versailles... If your focus is purely on Dance, you might as well watch the clips on KZfaq + others which feature the music & dance of the Baroque period! From Brighton 🌈 UK, take care & be well! 🙏🏽🌹🙏🏻
