Hi Nancy, Thanks for your kind words, so glad you enjoyed this video, it's a fun one to make, it's even better if the depression plate you use may belong to a family member. The one thing to remember when picking a plate make sure the edges aren't too thick, otherwise you will have trouble getting it to fit into the H Came. If you are going to buy a plate at a Thrift Store or Antique Store, I would take a small piece of H Came with me and be sure the plate you choose will work. Have fun with the project, and please feel free to ask me anything about these video projects. Have a great day!! Regards, Bill Stone

Hi Therese, Sorry to be so late replying to this comment. No, I wasn't an engineer, I worked in Technical Service on Microfilm, Blue Printing and Printing equipment. Later in life my wife and I owned our own printing business for 20 years before retiring. I got interested in leaded glass while seating in church and looking at the beautiful leaded glass windows, while I should have been leasing to the minister. HA! HA! In the early 70's our son kicked a soccer bill through the leaded glass window in our front door in our home. I took the window out and took it back where we had purchased it, they were going to repair it for us. When I went to pick it up, they weren't through putting it together and I checked out what they were doing and found it very interesting. One week later our High School had a night class for beginners to learn how to make leaded glass windows. It's all history from then on!! Probably more info than you needed. Have a Great Day. Hi Maria, I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos. The came I use on all my projects, from these small art projects to my larger window panels is the same. I use RU-70 U Came and RH-9 H Came. They are made by Cascade Metals. You can go on their webpage and check out all the came sizes. They make Lead Came, Zinc Came and Brass Came. There Came charts come up in decimals, but there is a box to change them to fractions. As far as the glazing putty and cement goes, I don't glaze any project smaller then 1 1/2 to 2 square feet. If the project is going to be used in an area that is exposed to the weather, then I would glaze it no matter what size it is, also if it were going into a door, I would glaze it to help with the shock of the door opening and closing. Glazing your projects dose make them more rigid and stronger. Hopefully this helps you out. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, hopefully I can get you an answer. Check out all my videos in one place by searching, Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations and click on my photo and they will all come up in one place. Regards, Bill Stone

Hi Carol, Thanks for the kind words, Yes you could do this with copper foil. wrapping the center plate may be a challenge, also you may want to consider wrapping the outside with lead came to give the project some strength. Regards, Bill Stone

Wow Bill! Feel like im sitting in on a one-on-one stained glass lesson with every one of your videos I watch. So much amazing information. Very glad I found your channel. I really like how you make those little points on your U-came corners. Quick question: My grandmother wants to pay me to install stained glass in a "diamond" pattern in her house. Her windows are trapezoid and triangle shaped. Measuring the opening for these odd shaped windows has me a bit worried. Have you ever done anything like that? Is there a method for measuring a window opening so that my stained glass will fit in there perfectly (or at least closely) ? I was thinking about taping some paper in the openings and then using a very sharp hobby knife to cut them out.
@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310
@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310 Жыл бұрын
Hi Joey, Glad you're enjoying my videos. Yes, I have made all kinds of crazy shaped windows over the years. you're on the right track with the paper over the window opening, either cut it out or draw lines showing the window opening, and then cut it out. After I get a good idea of the size, I need I cut a pattern out on light cardboard and do several trial fittings to be sure it fits allowing about 3/16" to1/4" smaller than the actual window size. That way they will slide right in front of the existing window. The stained glass panels can be held in place with some small plastic clips you get at the glass supplier, or you can install them with 1/4" or 1/2" round wood molding. Hope this helps you out. Best of luck with your projects. Regards, Bill Stone

Bill would you provide me with the size and type of came you used? Is this zinc? I understand the interior pieces are an H style so glass can be secured on both sides of the came. I'm guessing 7/32 which gives me 2 sizes of channel? I'm very new so I'm guessing. What was used on the outside finished edge? Thank you so much for your detailed videos, I love them.

Hi Candy, Thanks for your kind words, glad you are enjoying the videos!!! All the Came used in these projects is made of Lead Came. The U Came which is used on the outside of these projects is RU-70 U Came, and the H Came is RH-9. Both of these are made by Cascade Metals, they have a great website, check it out and you can find all sizes of Came. The RU-70 U Came: Channel 5/32" Face 3/16" Width 1/4 The RH-9 H Came: Channel 3/16" Face 5/32" Width 9/32" I hope this helps you out, please feel free to ask me anything about these projects. Hi Bill I checked them out and found the sizes you mentioned. It looks like they only sell wholesale? All their came was sold in boxes, not individual pieces. I am a beginner and don't want to invest in such quantities. I did check with SW Glass Arts in Phoenix, but they do not carry these sizes. I live near Surprise, AZ. Would a close size work for this project and the "Spinner" project? I'm not sure if you used the same sizes for this project as well? Thank you again for your help! @@billstonesstainedglasscrea3310

Hi Cindy, Most all of these smaller lead cames will work for you. The RU-70 U came I use has a 1/4" face and a channel width of 5/32". The RH-9 H came has a 5/32" face and a 3/16" channel width. So, any of the cames I found on E-Bay with measurement's close to that will work fine. Check out Sun & Moon-Stained Glass, they have RU-70 U came. Also check out Eagle Solder, they have a GY-81 H came 3/16" face and a 3/16" channel with. They also have a GY-50 H came, 7/32" face and a channel width 5/32". 30ft for $41.50 on the H came and I didn't get a price on the U came. Both say they have free shipping and are on E-Bay so check them out. The 7/32" H came is a little wider than I use but will work fine!! They aren't made by Cascade Metals but should work for you. We lived in Lake Havasu City, AZ for 10 years, we have been to Surprise before. Hope this helps you out. If you need more help, please ask me and I will get back to you. Regards, Bill Stone

Hi Jill, Thanks for watching my videos, You can find them all by typing in Bill Stone's Stained Glass Creations and click on my photo and they will all come up in one place. The base of my worktable is made of 3/4" press board with a 1/2" Homasote # 440 Sound Barrier. You will have to get it from an Old Fashion Lumber Company. Home Depot and Lowe's might could order it for you. You can all so go online and search suppliers for Homasote Board in your area. I have seen it on Amazon and Delphi Glass. The sizes are small and our overpriced. If you can get it from a lumber co., it comes in a 4'x8' sheet, most lumber co. will cut it down to what size you need. My work area is 36" wide and 12' long. If you haven't watched my first video, it's the Leaded Glass Solar Lantern for beginners, it talks about tools and supplies and working surface. Hopefully this helps you out. Hi Michelle, If you haven't watched the video called Leaded Glass Solar Lanterns for beginners, check it out. Igo over all the tools you need to get started with leaded came. The soldering iron I use is a Weller W100P it's 100 watts and uses different soldering tips to set the temperature, for lead came I use a 700-degree tip. For copper foil I use an 800-degree tip. The 800-degree tip is too hot for lead came and it will melt it to fast if you stay on the lead came to long. I use Amerway Inc, 60/40 solder and Classic 100 Gel Flux. Hopefully this helps you out.
