Heck yeah its worth it Dave !! I have two huge piles in the woods that contain sawdust, bark, leaves, as well as small deadfall and churn it over throughout the year. Even when we butcher hogs and beef, we open it up and bury the butchering scraps. We've been building, churning, and using the home made soil for the yard and topping off the garden for 30+ years. I DO wish I had your super shaker and you had a bigger one !!
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow Жыл бұрын
I tell you that shaker was well worth building. I wish I had of made it wider though. the base is 6 ft but the screen is only 5ft. a 7ft base and a 6ft screen would have suited me much better. my bucket is only 5ft wide so a built the top screen to exactly fit the bucket when I should have went wider. oh well live and learn. one day I may build a new one bigger. thinking about building a grizzly next for sifting out the big stuff. thanks for stopping by its always good hearing from you.
@tractorman4461

@@daveknowshow I really should build one myself because I have to transport the composted material to the garden or flower bed then rake out the larger material for tossing back in the pile. And of course there's always the few rocks that get in the mix as rocky as we are on this ridge.

@@tractorman4461 cant wait to see how you build yours. I'm almost wishing I put wheels on mine but the tractor forks work well to lift and carry it around.

That super shaker reminds me of the “grizzlies” we had at the sand mine to separate out the larger rocks. Worth it? Absolutely!
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow Жыл бұрын
I been thinking about building a grizzly next. I really could have used on this project. there was a lot of sticks and some big rocks, bricks mixed in some of this I got from my neighbor. they toss everything in there and that makes it hard to really separate.

Hey buuuuddy! Heck yeh it's worth it...especially if you toss other organic crap in there, it don't even take yrs. Woah, that camera went down for the count! Good to see u on here again, Dave!

that poor cam takes a pounding. glad its just a cheap 40 dollar one. lol I forget to mention this also had some grass clippings and other stuff tossed in it. water melon Ryne old potato peelings tomato and so on.

@pondacres Жыл бұрын
@@daveknowshow Yeh yeh, for sure. Dude I got this bigass pile behind my duck house, I toss anything organic back there...crap-filled straw from the ducks, smaller branches with leaves, fall leaves, old veggies, loose soil, even process ducks right over the pile and bury the carcass right in there. I was so anal about it at first, always turning over, but now I hardly even bother anymore. Maybe once in a blue moon I'll toss it over, if I have the backhoe on and it's a convenient time. Regardless it still all converts good enough within a year, I could grow a baby in this stuff! Keep on truckin brother, and your pooch is very cute!

Great idea! yes we can tell some jeep tails but in all honesty my son is better suited with that. I gave him my white jeep a few months ago. its been sitting for a while and needs some attention. my son runs these jeeps off road at various places. this weekend he has been at a place called oakridge I believe. they even took my new grand daughter who is only like 6 months old. maybe I can do a video and show all or at least some of the jeeps my son has. my off road days are pretty much over. however I did work at one of the off road parks for several years putting on competition events. fun times I do miss it.

Beautiful compost, Dave! Homemade is best.Lots of folks having problems from purchased compost because of herbicide carryover-even from leaves because when cities collect leaves, some have been dragged across lawns that were sprayed.

Hey there Dave. I don't know about leaf composting but I do know your good looking dog (Copper) apparently finds the dirt uniquely A-Okay to him. I have mounds of dirt as well but my dirt is mixed with pig crap and will grow about anything. Heck, I lost my 2011 F150 truck keys in that pile of pig fertilizer dirt and couldn't find them. Heck, that dirt's so fertile that after 3 weeks later, I came back to the mound of pig dirt and found a brand spanking new 2020 F250 still attached to the pod cord that was growing in that fertile soil. Now that's some fertile-azz soil, I'll tell ya. Nah, just kidding. I thought I'd have some fun with ya. Love ya brother. Take it easy and take care of old Copper-boy. Don 👍🏽🤠 9/15/22
