Let me first state that I'm an Islander fan and I absolutely despise Tavares. That being said, he's 33 years old and still productive scoring 65 points this season and 80 points the season before. I don't see how stripping the captaincy in his last season does anything for the Leafs except maybe getting in Tavares' head, and making him less productive. Let Tavares finish out his contract and then pass the captaincy on to Matthews. If Toronto wants to resign Tavares after next season, it would be with the understanding that he'd take a substantial pay cut and relinquish the captaincy to a younger player. Hey, if Toronto strips him of his captaincy, I certainly won't shed a tear for him, but what's right is right.

Trade him to Nashville even if you have to eat 50% of this years salary and get a player or 2 and draft picks, nash 1st has to be involved tho.

Trade him for draft picks? And then the Leafs will trade away the draft picks. Nashville has nothing to offer; Leafs need a #1 GOALIE; three backups don't do the job. Marner is a playmaker needed by the Leafs.

Morgan Reilly deserved the C back then when JT got it and i haven't changed my mind. Mo still deserves it. He's been there since 2012, the longest of any player. He speaks to refs/media and just an all around good leader on and off the ice, plus hes a decent hockey player, not the best, not even close, but your captain doesn't have to be your best player. Im just worried if you put the C on Auston, it could end up being a distraction and more pressure than he can handle..if they do it and it works out, fine. He's the face of the franchise, but i would almost rather not take that chance, put it on Mo and let AM continue to break records with no added pressure. Either way, every player on the roster needs to step up and lead by example, letter or no letter.

Marner is a great player who I hope stays in Toronto. He isn't the problem with the team. They seem to be addressing a long time need in having strong defensive D men and I'm hoping some of their free agents and rookies will provide the spark and drive that seems to be missing across the lineup

Leafs MANAGEMENT AND OWNERSHIP are complacent piles of shite. How much longer does SHANAHAN stick around, with his atrocious CV? Dubas left the Leafs in cap trouble; thank God he's busy in Pittsburgh destroying the Pens. Leafs need a #1 goalie and still are doing nothing to get one. Capped out, crapped out.

Marner can't go to Nashville even with 50% retained. Nashville is 118,00over the cap right now. How would you get marner there?

Sounds like the move the leafs organization would do. They keep losing, they charge fans more. Stripping a hometown boy of his captaincy certainly seems like something they'd do.

Marner does not score much , Hit , Fight , Take Faceoffs And unless Matthews is on his line he’s not Productive for 11 million , Ghost in the Playoff’s

At this point I dont see Marner getting moved. I do think it would be beneficial for the Leafs to move on from Tavares as captain.

I don't think mathews wants to be there, but they keep throwing money at him. I'd trade him for solid defense. Keep your other high scoring gems. You got marner and Nylander. The return for mathews would be huge.

Marner isn’t going anywhere. They missed their chance to trade with San José for the first overall pick. JT should be allowed to wear the C as long as he’s a Leaf. He took a massive hometown discount to play for the Leafs, ironically San Jose was offering much more….Matthews is already an ALTERNATE CAPTAIN, giving him the C won’t do Jack but create chaos in the dressing room

Stamkos used the leafs to get a better deal from the lightning and Orielly left because he couldn't handle the spotlight. Who else...? Leafs really don't have a problem attracting players. Issue is we don't resign them.

What Makes Mathews a better recipient of the Captiancy? What qualities does he have that would him a better Captain than Travares? If it's because that he has scored more goals during the regular season ? More points during the regular season ? If that is what makes him a better choice for the captaincy, then leave it on Travares! I'm not sure if that Mathews is the guy you in a fight in a dark alley! Or go to war with ! Sorry, Jake McCabe Tanev even Rielly would be better suited

Marner will be a leaf until he retires. So if your team wants him you gotta give a shocking deal. What ever you want to give up, plus three firsts round picks. 2023, 2024 and 2025 first round pick. If no . Hang up the phone before Toronto does

Making Matthews the captain would be a terrible mistake. He is individualistic in nature and they never make good leaders. The charge he received 5 years ago just proves it. A good leader and mature/respectable person would have never done it. A silent leader who leads by example is the best kind of leader. If his players don’t follow in suit then it just shows that they are shitty people who don’t care enough about the team and their integrity. And if Marner is still a leaf next season, for the first time since 1986, I won’t be watching a single leafs game. The cap space is more important than that little child. He is a joke of a human and still listens to his abusive father for some reason. However I liked their signings but there is still a shit tonne of work for Brad to do.

If they don't at least trade him at the deadline, I am going to be extremely dissatisfied and probably won't follow the team as detailed as I do. He is not a playoff player and we would be better off using a trade to clear up cap, get prospects or draft picks

It's *very* early days but the one Leafs player that appears to have the character and intensity to make a good captain is Matthew Knies.

This Leafs team is a dud really what have they done Tree is a crap GM and Marner is going to walk and JT is going to walk away laughing, they should buy out JT , there defense is terrible and now injured they were better off keeping Joel Edmundson and Lybuskin I mean the management are idiots they could of tsken the money from Hakanpa and the other 3 depth defense and signed Zadorov or Pesce, Dillion crazy thinking total crap crap so done with this team and their ways .

So I'm a NYI Fan and I'm sure you know how we feel towards JT and the Leafs. I think some of us are realizing that dogging a beaten to death horse isn't fun anymore, especially when his hometown wants him gone! Which makes us almost pity (Mr.T) the fool, but absolutely love the wonderful decisions that franchise can never make!!! Striping him of the C, with 1 yr on his contact, AND by his hometown team is insanely insulting and a backstabbing bitch move👏 Showing how unprofessional the Leafs are! Giving the C to a guy that isn't a leader and dresses like a line cook😂😂😂😂 PLEASE DO!!!

JT should give up the C now, but I'll be surprised if he does it. He has zero leadership abilities, and should not have been given the C in the first place. He never seemed like the Captain with the Islanders. His interviews are like watching paint dry, he overdoses on cliches and stock answers 99.9% of the time. I'm sure he's great guy and all, but team needs a leader. Not long ago I thought Rielly, but now I lean more to #34. Just what's needed, another drama besides Marner lol

Marner is in complete control why would he agree to be traded when he can go where ever he wants to go at the end of his contract? Also, why would you add more controversy asking Tavares to give up the C right now with all this BS with Marner going on? And how does that effect the room? Leave the C where it is at least until Tavares' contract is up. This is ridiculous. Who's gonna want to come to Toronto with all this BS going on? Jack ~'()'~
