This is so helpful! Thank you!! I bought my camper with repaired water damage (BIG discount) we’ve had it for about 4 months and just had our first leak after a 2,000 mile drive (we knew we would need to check things out when we got set up but didn’t have a chance before a storm hit during the drive.) It was a very minor leak almost in the exact place as yours. Should we do anything to prevent damage occurring inside the wall or interior of the camper? We are patching the leak in the next few days. Thanks so much -from a first time camper owner

Glad I could help! I'm not really sure what you could do on the inside to prevent damage, but there are things (like dehumidifiers) that can help dry things quicker if you have experienced a leak. Just be generous with your patches on the outside! Good luck!

Thank you for this video. I've been trying to use gorilla construction adhesive to fix cracks but it sometimes doesn't hold up after a freeze. Does that dicor work just as well with a metal roof do you know?
@LivingaLifeFulfilled
@LivingaLifeFulfilled 2 жыл бұрын
I've never personally used it on a metal roof, so I'm not sure. I would think so as long as it has something to adhere too (not too smooth).

Shelly’s roof and gutter, I promise if you take off what is leaking and clean with some gunwash both of whatever you are cleaning/sealing will work out good… most people use self sealing but if you don’t trust me check after a hot day.. it melts away to only the mess also causing a leak, make sure you take all that off both areas and re apply with roof and gutter.
@LivingaLifeFulfilled
@LivingaLifeFulfilled 2 жыл бұрын
You definitely described the proper way to do a long term repair, but what I did actually held up for over a year (until we traded it in). Patching is a good "quick fix", but anything long term you really should remove the old first. Thanks for your comment and info!

Mine is difficult.. they took out the top ac unit and put a metal sheet there and caulking and glued it where the ac was. It leaks pretty good. I recaulked around it and then put on flex seal past then went inside and caulked the inside seam where the metal meets the camper. I basically reinforced it x5 and it's still leaking!! Less but still. The camper sags a little where the ac was so that's where water runs to and sits right where the leak is... how can I get this problem taken care of? Will I have to get some self leveling compound and get that sag level with the camper so it doesn't hold water in that area? I still think it should not leak even if water sits where it leaked or leaks after all the leaks proof stuff I put on it..
@LivingaLifeFulfilled
@LivingaLifeFulfilled 2 жыл бұрын
That is a tough one! I've never had to do anyting that major... but I would make sure the replacement panel itself is not sagging (like you mentioned) and holding water or has a leak itself. And I would definitely recommend self leveling sealant, or eternabond tape, around every exterior seem. When it comes to water you really can't use to much lap sealant! Wish I had better advice... good luck!

I would suggest at least parking your rv with the front end ripped down just slightly. I had to do that with my motorhome as it's roof also had a bowl shape roof and that helped a lot

I have few leaks here n there but eventually all roofing will break down on all trailers, thing is with Dicor caulking is a no good sealant to use being it has certain chemicals in it that inter react to the roofing membrane causing warpage in the roofing membrane & will not last long at all no matter how much of Dicor is used it will start cracking.

It's really not meant to be a permanent solution, that's for sure. That's why it's good to check frequently to protect your RV!

1) ETERNA BOND Roof seal tape, RSW, VW,etc...mfg royal microcellant technologies HB Fuller. Use this tape on all of your seams of your ro of and any of your parts that need to be sealed as well from water. Alternative: xFastener roof se tape. TIP: TO REMOVE this tape you use a heat gun or a hair dryer heated up and use a plastic spackle spreader they call it a joint knife if it's metal I guess, And you can once the material is softened up from the heat gun you can scrape it off and use gasoline to clean it up or mineral spirits I believe but gasoline cleans it up the best there is a video on this. 2) CHEMLINK M1- For your structural adhesive for putting your roof panels on and gluing them down. I'm sure you could probably use this for other things at your discretion I am not an expert but I'm going to use these adhesives for my camper at this point in time. 3) 3M #90- $12.98 a green can found at Home Depot and Lowe's in the paint/adhesives isles-used for your delamination or side panels of your camper that use plastic phylon FRP wood metal it does it all read the can I am not an expert. 4) DURALINK 50 used for your lap sealant I guess from what I researched it's better than dicor and RV roof repair guys I believe use this stuff because it came from someone who did their research watching their videos. Again do your research I am not an expert. And I'm going to use these materials as spoken here. Unless I need one I can rebut this info.

Thanks for all the useful tips for everyone! I have researched Eterna bond tape as well, and will likely use it for the big jobs, but for just this small short term job the sealants work great. Thanks for commenting!

The first thing to do is find the source of the leak so you know how to repair it. If you can't be 100% sure where it's coming from, then I would take it to a certified repair shop to help you. A little extra cost up front to find the source can help a lot in the long run!

Glad we could help! It always depends on the leak, but yes, sometimes just a patch job will do it. Other times it really is better to scrape all the old away and put down new eternabond tape or dicor. Just have to use your judgement on what you're up against!

Wrong. Wrong wrong. I had the same leak I the keystone cougar 2018. Fifth wheel. The leak rotted out the whole closet. The dealer would not warrant there product. You need to take all the screws out. Holding the metal cap .. replace the plastic trim piece that covers the 1/4 inch sheet metal screws. These screws need to be replaced With pole barn screws 1 1/2 long. With metal cap and rubber washer under the cap. Electro players. Take out sheet metal screws and Caulk behind. Metal trim piece. Then screw the metal trim piece bake in place. With pole barn screws. 1 1/2 long. May have to use 2 inch pole barn screw. To grab wood frame. Wet finger and compress caulking to seal joint. The screws from the factory are the wrong screw. They will strip out and rust slowing water to inter the wall and separate the Luan plywood. Even the nose front. Has to be taken apart and recaulked under the metal strip. New pole barn screws put in place. May need 2”” long screws. And recaulked. And painted with rubber sealer. To water proof. The joint. Call. I 812-461-7878. Ask for Dan. Key Stone will not warranty there design On RV’s.

Sounds like yours got much worse than mine before you got to it. If mine was that bad, then this solution would be wrong, but because I got it early this patch did great. This is the exact reason why routine inspections and getting to problems quickly is vital... so they don't turn into something much bigger! Sorry you had such a rough time with it.

It's actually very clean, but there is discoloration due to weathering. This wasn't meant to last forever that's why I referred to it as "patching", but it lasted well over a year until we traded it in! For a true repair you should rip off all the old sealant and put down new tape and sealant.
