I tried to learn the kick serve from you tube videos that says to brush the ball 7 to 2, but most of the time the kick serve ends up in slice serve! I like the idea of ‘hair brushing’ to get the right feel and the swing although in reality the ball will leave the string bed in split second and you cannot carve around the ball.
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. This is the reality in all tennis strokes. Does that mean that the follow through is irrelevant? Of course not. The swing path determines the angle of the racket, the trajectory of the racket and often the speed of the racket at contact.. www.oneminutetennis.com

The key to getting pace on your kicker is to hit like your first serve. If you watch the pros like Fed hit the kicker, they will in general, toss into the court between 11:30 and 12, lean back and put the edge of the racket at 45 degrees to the ball. Then at contact, pronate through the serve. This was analyzed here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nc5ngq-T3aytf5s.html. I use this method. It works for me. The thing is that like all good pros, the ball clears the net by inches but it's consistent.
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
You certainly need to swing as fast as a first serve. But a kick serve that clears the net by inches is not a good serve. It'll drop very short. Maybe misunderstood

This is a great way to physically "feel" the movement. I love this tip. I do have a question though, what movement creates the spin for it to kick out? Is it the swing path, where the contact is on the ball or the pronation? Or is it a combination of all?
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lance. Great question. Pronation happens after contact... It's only purpose is to encourage rapid acceleration through the correct contact point. The swing path is the most important thing. To make the ball kick outwards, the contact has to be unnaturaly low. Does that help?

Do you have any tips about how to toss for the kick serve? For some reason I have perfect control for a 1st serve, but when I try to place the ball for the kick serve I tend to toss too low and/or far in front. This is an area where our paid for subscribing service can probably help. But. Although it's a bit of a guess without seeing your stroke. Is it possible that the ball toss is too far in front? It depends on the serve and the player. Federer pronated on every serve. But Andy Murray pronated on the first serve, but not the second, or topspin serve. Hi eddy. Very observant. I do not pronate on my slice serve. I know Federer does.. And so it has become mandatory according to most coaches. I found it works better to think about attacking the ball with the side edge of the racquet. If you pretend you are going to hit the ball upwards with the edge, you will get topspin. The follow through is NOT like you show in your first two progressions. But it should not be the focus anyway, as it will naturally go out and go the right and the face will end up facing the back fence after pronation
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You are right. But the first two progressions result in players who do not know this motion transforming into the correct swing Does that make sense?

brushing the hair or beachball will make the ball bounce on your side even before it reaches the net, the racket stays in that 90degree angle and for that everything comes out of the arm and limiting racket head speed. that brushing movent is also limiting the pronation and yourself are even making that pronation in that serve ( also to much body rotation you are frontal at contact )
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the input. Let's answer these in reverse order. I always try and teach one aspect at a time. So this has nothing to do with delaying the turn into the serve.. Although your 100% correct in this detail. Pronation is often present in the kick serve. But it isn't how you learn it. Have you ever heard the expression "walk before you run" this video is aimed at people leaving the movement. It's hard enough without trying to copy the elaborate movements of Federer. The angle will bring the ball into the ground.... Honestly it depends where in the swing path you hit the ball. Let's take your Forehand. If you hit the ball in the last 20% of the swing. The ball will fly away from the net and to the fence on your right. But we don't need to teach that. Because it's obvious. When learning the kick serve movement, players get this part correct naturally. I hope that this helps, and I've replied in depth because every point that you make is totally valid. Hope you still enjoy the site and have a great day Steve

@@oneminutetennis it doesn’t make to much sense because ( example ) the moment you touch the ball the ball goes in a direction ( let say straight forward ) but the racket doesn’t go in that same direction but probably in a 70 to 90 degree angle to the right . So actually to be aibel to really brush over the ball like you’re demonstrating with the hair or beach ball that racket should go in the same direction and that’s probably why the say swing from 7 to 2 and the ball goes to 12. The moment you touch the ball the racket is still going upward and changing the direction of the racket at that speed will be impossible if you ask me. What do you think
@oneminutetennis
@oneminutetennis 2 жыл бұрын
That's how tennis used to be taught. With the racket pointing in the direction you wanted the ball to travel. But that is a long time ago.
