Hi guys! Great video as always :) I actually picked up a package of the clear and played with it a little. Unfortunately, my nozzle tip seemed to just let the formula run straight out as soon as I turned the bottle upside down to use (without squeezing). It did however "stay" or not run, but it's fast flowing out of the bottle did make keeping within my lines difficult. As per the comment about paper curling, mine did curl as I filled a large die cut. However, I think it is best if you adhere t

Hats off to you, I have some Royal Coat Dimensional Magic bought in 1997 and it still works as well as ever. It came in a kit with paper printed with a mosaic design so you could make each "tile" in the mosaic raised. I glued a piece of this onto a glass pasta storage jar (still in 1997!) which has been in constant use for 23 years and it's still looking like new.

Mod Podge can be brushed over any ink or marker that is permanent. If it is a water-based ink or an alcohol ink, all water-based Mod Podge formulas will re-wet the water-based inks.

It is possible that your paper is super porous, (not knowing more about your supplies). However, if following the basic technique of Mod Podging the paper into the bottle cap and then applying a coat of Mod Podge over the paper in place and then allowing it to thoroughly dry before applying Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, all should be well. Perhaps one of two things ... 1. Your paper is super porous, OR 2. Perhaps you did not seal the paper with a topcoat of Mod Podge prior to applying the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic.

If Mod Podge Dimensional Magic is applied too thickly, it may slightly dimple throughout the drying process. It is best to keep the project surface level, in a warm area, and only apply a little dimension at a time.

+K Hallyu i especially recommend using paper for copic markers and ect. those papers are stronger and wont smudge the drawing or photo. you can even use paper for watercolor paintings- it helps too (btw paper for watercolor have strips and bumps on them so don't be surprised when you see them)

Anyone have any tips for preventing the dreaded "dimple" that happens when it dries? You can see an example of what I mean at 4:00 on the petals of that pinwheel/flower decal. I've tried placing my objects in different temperature rooms and nothing helps.
@lisac7151
@lisac7151 8 жыл бұрын
I'm having the same problem and can't find an answer. This is what I found and is a common problem. This is from a customer on Amazon.com. This stuff is really great for certain uses, but it has some drawbacks that make it not suitable for other projects. First, I can confirm what some other reviewers have reported about the "dimple effect." Basically the larger the item is, the more likely that there will be a noticeable depression in the center of the item after the glue is completely dry. I even tried to compensate for this by adding multiple progressively smaller coats (letting it dry completely between each one) just to the center of the item but most things still dimpled! However, if you're using it to fill shallow tray-like jewelry items like rings or pendants, this effect is much less problematic or noticeable. This glue dries really shiny and clear, so it makes for a very beautiful finish and it's easy to use. The bottle and dispenser tip work perfectly and don't get messy at all. I would recommend this product if you need a hard shiny THIN coat over images/artwork. If you want a thicker coat or are hoping to build up a dome, it would be better to buy round, domed glass tiles and mod podge the image to the bottom of the glass (or there are also clear epoxy stickers that mimic these glass tiles).

I have been making projects using shrink film that is printed using an inkjet printer. Unfortunately inkjet ink is water soluble. The projects look very nice but they can be destroyed by moisture. I have been trying to find a product that can be used as a clear water proof seal for my shrink film projects. Would Dimensional Magic work for sealing shrink film art projects? Thanks for you time, Perry
@bdbear10
@bdbear10 10 жыл бұрын
I use this typd of shrink plastic all the time and used to have problems with the ink smearing. Then I read that you need to use a special type of sealer, so now all my pieces get sprayed with a matte fixative before I try to put on any gloss or other finish. Hope that helps.
@lleaves
@lleaves 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks I will try this next time I do shrink art. I tried the dimensional magic and found that it makes a nice dome over the shrink film but while it is curing the inks dissolve slightly and the image becomes blurry. I experimented with clear nail polish and found that it did not cause the ink to dissolve. Finally I first applied several coats of clear nail polish letting each cure completely. I allowed the polish to cure for several days. I then applied the dimensional magic and let it cure for about three days. This produced pretty good results. The ink did not blur and there is a nice dome over the image. Regardless of what the instruction on the dimensional magic indicate you must let it cure for at least three days before touching it or the finish will be damaged. Also it is very important to be in a clean dust free area and cover the art while it is curing or dust particles in the air can damage the result. I don't yet know if this method will hold up over time but it is good enough for my purposes. I make little trinkets to be used as tradables for Geocaching. I think people like them because they take them.

every time i use dimensional magic it fogs up after a couple days. at first i thought "maybe its interacting with glue" so i stopped using glue before i used it. then i thought "maybe its interacting with glaze" so i stopped glazing my piece before using it. then i thought "maybe its interacting with the piece being sanded". so i stopped sanding before i used it and sure enough, the first couple of days its crystal clear and looks awesome but by the fourth or so day it starts to get foggy and continues to decline until you can hardly see the piece underneath it. I dont know whats going on, if i'm applying it too thick or its just not compatible with polymer clay (though it happened with paper too) or what but im tired of ruining pieces that ive made after a week with this trial and error.. any advice? I'd really rather not go back to using resin, this is so much simpler.

I saw this darkening referenced in another video where she was making bottle caps. It may just be what happens after the sealant has dried. Are you letting it dry completely? I would maybe suggest tweaking the lightness of the image before you print it? Hopefully that wouldn't effect the color...if so, you might need to tweak the color contrast as well.

Yep, me, too. I use it to make a domed finish on top of these circle-things I make. When the nozzle is a little worn, the stuff comes out too fast, and it overflows. What I sometimes do is pour out some DM in a tray (I use silicone, so it's easy to clean.), and a shish kabob skewer - I dip the skewer into the DM, and drop it onto my project. Make sure you put droplets onto your proj. and try not to drag the tool you're using through it :/ I know... It sucks. I like using this better than resin, though. UGH, damn yewwwwwww, Dimensional Magic! :P

@@lizjoe21750 #1, if it runs, you might try putting it in the fridge for a bit and chill it down, it should get a bit thicker but may take a bit longer to dry. #2, when you put the stuff away, put a pin in it then the cover, should help.

Since you are using Ink Jet printer, when the ink comes in contact with water or liquids it will run due to the nature of the ink. We would suggest using a dry toner image such as a color copier or laser printer. This will not run when the dimensional magic is applied.

the "not flow over the areas" is a bad thing.. mod podge DM has this little issue of not covering the edges of objects correctly. it tends to want to clump together and pull itself away from the edges, leaving unfinished edges, where as actual resin will perfectly touch the edges and stay there. applying more doesn't seem to help, nor directing it with a toothpick. it just won't do it.

That "great tip" that DM comes with constantly gets CLOGGED, and I have to shove a needle in it to fix it... It inevitably becomes clogged again and again, which also makes the cap lose its airtight seal, and the crap gets nasty.
