This is a step-by-step instructional video on how to frame a basic window rough opening in a wall. I will be demonstrating and talking about how to do layout on wall plates and also assemble the jacks, cripples, Sill, Header, and king studs. Also, learn about rough opening “RO.” If you are new to construction or remodeling something at your own house, learning how to do this from a pro builder should speed you up and give you the confidence to do it right!

i learned how to build houses at Los Angeles Trade Tech. This is how we were taught. Also Larry Haun the Zen Master of residential construction came and gave us some secrets to the trade. These guys in this video are spot on. It should be mandatory in order to graduate with a high school diploma to acquire basic knowledge on building houses and auto repair....MANDATORY!!!

This HAS TO BE the BEST tutorial I've watched in the construction business. Definition of terms, visual demonstrations as well as discussion of why's and wherefor's is clear enough for anyone to understand. I'm an old lady rebuilding her own kitchen, with some carpentry experience but always refreshing my memory on structural requirements so I'm subscribing and will probably binge watch the rest of your videos just for fun :) Thanks guys!

Nice to see younger pros making strait forward videos for the greenies also the way they run there projects nicely they also keep it light and have fun doing it ! If your doing this for a living the way these guys do you got it made! Well done boys, I’m a fan! And it’s good for the next generation to see instead of the “alternative “ lol

I love watching pros work, no matter what industry they're in. The efficiency, the confidence in what they're doing... It's impressive. My trade is metalwork these days, specifically gunsmithing, now that I'm retired from being a shooter... The way he glides around the job is exactly how I am in my shop, and how I was on the job before retirement. Keep up the good work. I came here because it's been a long time since I built a house, and my brother just enlisted me in remodeling his house. We both know how to do it, but he's the carpenter by trade... I'm the soldier. So I'm a bit rusty. I'll be framing windows on Thursday, so I better brush up on the lingo. I was trying forever trying to remember the names of the king studs until I remembered KZfaq.

You've probably already heard of this, but I prefer nailing the king stud, jack stud, and outer criple, all together before putting them down onto the plate. This just makes nailing them together and flushing them a lot easier since you're not fighting gravity

This was amazing video. I swear I’ve watched it four times. I’m sure I’ll watch it a couple more times as I’m about to put windows in a build today. However the wall is already built and up so I’m going to have to cut through a 2 x 4 two. But your directions were excellent and easy to follow. You were very detailed and for a girl who has never built a house before I feel confident that I can walk out there right now and do it. Thank you very much

Nice how to video. have learned to add another piece of 2 x ? on the outside of the King stud to allow more backing for a curtain rod, or allow for two jack studs for that extra 1-1/2". It keeps owners from destroying the sheetrock trying to mount the rod support.
