Another great block. I found myself saying to Jenny, "no, look that one is turned around." But she caught it. Love it when Jenny makes the same mistakes I do. And how special for her to keep it in the video and not edit it out. Just like Jenny says, "We make it real." Thanks for all you do for us. 🥰❤️🧵🪡

Thanks for this cheerful version of a Lemoyne Star Flowers 🌸 quilt pattern Jenny. When I make this one, I’m going to trim out a small circle from the centre of the star (about a 1.75” circle) before ironing on the yellow appliqué circle, because I find that centre to become quite bulky on Lemoyne stars where those eight seams all come together. And they really do look like flowers this way, I love it! ☀️

Try pressing your seams open. I can imagine it will be tricky cutting out a centre first.
@HRHDMKYT
@HRHDMKYT Ай бұрын
@@MrsGraphiteGalYou’re right, it could be tricky. Since I prefer the ‘finished’ look of needle-turned appliqué anyways, I sewed on the circles first, and then (carefully! 😊) trimmed out the bulk beneath the centres. So many ‘how-to’ choices.

I’m watching this and crying. My husband Terry’s Grandma made him a quilt for our wedding & it has these leaves on it. Hard to think our quilts will someday be antiques😵‍💫. I know! I just discovered Missouri Star the past couple months, but love having a quilting video on, even if I'm just doing the dishes or cooking. I make a mental note to go back to something that I really like and watch again to take some notes. I'll see a design that I want to use certain fabrics for in my stash, and write down the name of the video and the name of the quilt, or who made it if it is a Triple Play, and put the note in with the fabric.

What a fun & happy-colored quilt!! I realized also that your center seam doesn't have to be exact since you'll be adding the circle to it. I'm of Jenny's age, so yes, I remember Chicken Scratch!! What a great find 😊😊 I cross-stitched onto some pink gingham with white yarn when I was in Jr. High & mom made them into curtains for me! It wasn't Chicken Scratch, just a cross-stitch design. Good times!! With the size the block comes out, would also make a great pillow!!

I totally get it! The applique, so darn easy but why it has a hold on me a bit reluctant to dive in. I'm so frustrated with myself. I finally do my toe on the applique pool abs the water was perfect! Perfectly easy I mean you almost can't do it wrong! No kidding. And if you get the chance and haven't yet. Check out Lisa Capen Quilts. She's fabulous at showing applique.. taking all the fear / intimidating thoughts etc. right out of it. Easier then iron on, trace, cut out iron on such around or don't! Easy option for that a well. Hope you do your toe in soon, I just did after all this time and 🤦‍♀️ silly waste of time so much I've missed doing .. time to catch up🤩

I am working on the Big Star quilt and I am glad you showed both techniques for creating the block. I had tried both ways and I think for me the second way with doing the pinwheel first works best for keeping everything lined up. I like seeing more ways so I can choose what works. It's also what I enjoy with the triple plays - sometimes the Easy 8 or 16 works better than cutting blocks and sewing them all separately.

I admit I’m a bit (or maybe a little more than a bit) OCD with my piecing and I do press my seams before sewing pieces if the block together. Yep, does take more time but that’s OK with me as I am also one of the slowest sewers around!!!!! I am totally amazed as how you and the other Doan girls can just zip along sewing anything! It’s impossible for me and that ‘s OK, too. This quilt is so adorable! I can see 30s prints used also if the cute Lori Holt fabric is not available. Or maybe even a Christmas type fabric? Hmmmm!

I love the free form jazz that's playing. That's a nice touch. So Kudos to whoever stuck to their guns to play this genre. Have a great weekend everybody!

This will be my next project. Love this tutorial. My grandmother's name was Hattie and she was a quilter. And glad to see you did not edit out the mistakes as it makes it more real. MSQC is one of my favorite quilt sites! Thank you and your crew for your time and efforts!

I have done lots of Chicken Scratch in my long life. I taught a group of third grade girls to do it in a lunchtime class and some caught on right away (others took a while longer!) and we made a heart mounted in an embroidery hoop.
