Experiencing depression after treating a brain aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation (AVM) could happen to 1 in 5 patients. Unfortunately, it’s often under diagnosed, and survivors don’t know they should be seeking treatment for depression because they are dealing with so many other adjustments at the same time.
In this webinar brought to you by the Brain Aneurysm Foundation and The Neurosurgical Atlas, Dr. Stanley J. Berman (whom is a brain aneurysm survivor himself), explains what you need to know and how to get help if you experience depression after a brain aneurysm or AVM.
Donations are essential to helping the Brain Aneurysm Foundation provide information, support and education like this. Please donate and help us continue our mission here: bit.ly/Donate_BAF

You gave an interesting talk but I'm a 35 yr. post op survivor of a massive hemorrhage due to an AVM rupture. You're info may be based on percentages as that's been my experience from my docs. My specific deficits are MY specific deficits and shouldn't be a part of the general population. Some of the things you mentioned affect me but most of what you spoke about didn't even come close to my problems. I think that many of us have been taught that size and location are the common denominators but there are are a couple of things such as the experience of the surgeon operating on vascular anomalies and the experience of the surgeon working in that particular area of the brain. When speaking about life after neurosurgery patients have to realize that their life will change, it may be minimal, but it will change. Mine has and I've tried so hard to overcome my obstacles but can't. I think that what you are doing is admirable and will help some patients, but we are all different and we all need to be treated for our own specific problems and not by a text book version. I wish you well and thank you for helping make AVM's and ANEURYSMS a part of the conversion. . I'm getting tired of people asking, You've had a what? I've never heard of that. God Bless

Yes this is so true… i had an avm bleed and gama knife and i never got any sort of help for my mentalhealth so i was forced to write music to get all my feelings out of my system.. So its an important topic. So anyone who suffers from this should know that they are not alone.

This is very true. I have not been myself after my pipeline stent and also had complications where i needed a second surgery. I had a baby and have severe ppd. The psychiatrist never linked my aneurysm being a trigger.

After my anurism I wasn't aware of possible side effects. When I was able I threw all medications away. I was treated using the B.E.S.T technique and ancient vedic breathing techniques. I still have moments but self talk getting myself onto the yoga.mat really help. I.hope you are ok and thriving.

My brother, I did not understand the video because my English is not good, but I have a question for my brother.. Is avm the cause of depression? Or does depression affect the person after he does the AVM operation?

I feel that im more depressed because im really trying to take care of my disabled sister who cannot talk . My mom died April 2020 and my Sis is with me. I 💘 my sister with all my heart and i have NO HELP FROM FAMILY and it breaks my heart . We have 2 other Sisters who dont bother at all.😠 I will not put my sistet in a adult facility especially how this world is going. PEOPLE are 👿 EVIL and I dont and wont tolerate the thought of someone being mean to her😭 I had a Brain aneurysm in 2015 and it left me in a coma for 3wks..I honestly believe from day 1 that a SHOT 💉💉that was unauthorized causrd me to go blind and gave me a aneurysm...😡😠 I study with JEHOVAH WITNESSES and i must say if it wasnt for Jehovah God no telling what i would have done to Dachino....
