ok so like technically this is a real studying video bc these are my actual tips on how to learn korean but then also it's not a studying video bc i don't actually study in this video bc i'm telling u how to study but like also ur probably not studying either as ur watching this video so neither of us are actually studying so that's why i was like heck let's count it as a nrswn but also we are studying?? aNYWAY
hello it's nina and i am showing you how i learn korean!! i get dms and comments frequently asking how i'm learning korean and no matter how many i reply to i still get asked so i decided to make an entire video on it!!!! hopefully this video helps somehow!!
i've been studying on my own for a year now (but it wasn't very consistent studying during the school year bc i had my college classes and papers and exams) so TECHNICALLY i've really been consistently studying this summer and i'm slowly getting better but SLOWLY :O learning another language needs lots of practice! i tried taking a korean class at cal but everyone wants to learn korean so there wasn't room 2 semesters in a row so i've just been teaching myself
it's very much possible to learn on your own! and if you're not korean and have no knowledge of the korean language at all it's also still possible!! just believe in yourself and be dedicated!
also this video sounds like it's sponsored but it's not LOL
but here are the sites i mentioned and a lot of ppl use them too so i recommend!!:
how to study korean: howtostudykorean.com
talk to me in korean: talktomeinkorean.com
i mostly talk about talk to me in korean for some reason but how to study korean is also good! find out which one fits u better :)
this isn't a video TEACHING u korean this is just tips and a guide for how i've been learning korean if u want korean lessons then now u know about htsk and ttmik!! :)
i hope u enjoy this video and i hope this helped??? see u in my next video ;)

It is fine. I am Puerto Rican American and never spoke Spanish at all growing up. I spent around 1 year learning it on my own and now I'm able to talk to my family members pretty well. Its still weak but I could live in a spanish country just fine. Just keep going and be consistent and don't get discouraged and do not be afraid to make mistakes and not understand everything at first.
@lucaa.9709
@lucaa.9709 4 жыл бұрын
@A. T. For general motivation, what works for me is to just think about the new opportunities and world you can unlock by learning a language. It is quite magical to think about it that way, and the places you could visit and people you could meet, that you wouldn't be able to connect with otherwise had you not took the time to learn the language . The new culture that is now open to you because of it. For studying you want to make it as enjoyable as possible so you don't get discouraged There are apps like Italki that are very fun to use and you can apply your language almost immediately by talking and writing with other people. Duolingo is good for starters too, I recommend completing the tree and the stories, very linear and won't take longer than 1-2 months. Use other methods and tools, if you only use one method you won't learn as fast as you could otherwise. Follow a plan/have a plan so you can see progress linearly , this will make it feel more possible and simple. The first 3-4 months of just getting your hands on the language are the most boring part but after that its surprisingly enjoyable and before long you can speak, think and express yourself in a new way. Set dates for milestones that you could realistically hit by studying 1-2 hours a day. Its easy to lose motivation when you have no aim or goal and everything seems out of reach. If you tackle it bit by bit and get past the first 3 months its then just a grind of reading, talking and listening to the language over and over until you iron out your errors, learn new vocab and can use it just like you use your first language. Hope that helps, Good luck A. T.😅

One of the biggest recommendations I have for learning not just Korean, but any language, is to start keeping a diary in that language. When you have a daily diary, you start to quickly realize the words you are missing needed to function in that language in everyday life. It is a great way to get accustomed to the writing system if it is non-Latin, like Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc., and a great way to improve your literature.

Duuuude I’m a chinese adoptee & I since both of my parents are now white I never learned chinese but since I really want to connect more deeply with the Asian community so I’m like trying to learn it too & I totally relate to the whole learning grammar before vocab,, like I can set up sentences but I have very limited vocabulary so it’s hard to understand & create conversation in real life. I always feel nervous conversating with fluent speakers because people, especially other Asians get so judgy when you can’t speak “your language” fluently as well. The part about speaking yourself is really helpful, I’m definitely going to try that. Thank you 💞

i understand how u feel the first 3 n 1/2 minutes of ur video because i grew up in a hispanic/mexican house hold i do know spanish and understand it quite well and i grew up hearing the language so spanish is my first language but i am having trouble to speak it. as i child i was in bilingual classes throughout kindergarten-4th grade but when i moved schools (because the middle school that my brother was going was next door to the elementary) it was an all english school so i started getting used to more english. it's hard for me to talk both english and spanish you can hear my spanish accent when i speak english; i stutter a lot, my spanish isn't exposed to big vocabulary, i forget or get the words wrong. so it's difficult for me to speak both, i even say spanish word in an english sentence and the same goes for spanish. also, i grew up dyslexic which is a learning disorder so that also made it harder. dyslexia is a learning disorder characterized by difficultly reading but that also made it hard for me to write, i took classes for it but at first i was taking classes in it in spanish but when i moved i started taking them in english and it got confusing. if u took the time to read this thank you and i'm sorry if i made any spelling or punctuation errors. and nina... I FREAKING LOVE YOU SO MUCH !!! i love watching everyone of your videos and just your personality is amazing and you are extremely beautiful. 💜💜

I can totally relate! I too grew up bilingual, with spanish being my other language. I have a lot of trouble speaking spanish nowadays, my vocab is very limited. I also find it hard to quickly come up with a response. Lately iv'e been trying to hang out more with my cousins and speak to them in spanish. I'm biracial so I grew up always feeling different as well so that never really helped. All this to say I'm trying to reconnect with my roots and become as fluent as possible in spanish! I wish you the best of luck!

I relate even though Spanish is my mother language I grew up speaking English more because I didn't go to a bilingual school I only spoke Spanish at home but my vocabulary isn't as limited as my younger sister I can understand Spanish more than I speak it you just have to repeat yourself sometimes I can read Spanish but I don't understand what I just read in Spanish very well so I end up residing one Spanish book like 10 times just to understand it I don't have a Spanish accent when I speak English usually only when I'm shouting and when I'm speaking Spanish I don't have an American accent :p

thanks for this video nina!! rn i'm studying korean (through ttmik) so this video was very helpful! btw i completely understand what you meant when you said you didn't want to learn korean as a child, because when i was younger the same thing happened to me with spanish. i'm half italian and half colombian, but i was born and i live in italy, and whenever i would go to colombia to visit my relatives, i would feel ashamed because my spanish wasn't as good as my cousins' and i also wasn't able to understand everything, so i hated that situation and i stopped learning spanish. now that i'm in high school i picked spanish as my 3rd foreign language and i'll soon be reaching an advanced level in spanish! i wish you good luck with your korean !! :)

I teach Korean in the US, and I would like to say you are not alone. We have lots, lots of Korean American students who take Korean language course in the college. :) For Korean American learners, I do think your focus on grammar is a smart approach, as you already know basic vocabulary like you said but not the grammar behind it which affects your spelling and writing. Having a Korean speaker around you, like your parents and friends, would definitely help you throughout your Korean-learning journey! I should confess I do speak to myself a lot when I learn a language too!

Ahh!! I saw the uncomfortableness in your face when you said even though you had both Korean-American parents you didn’t pick up Korean. I feel you on another level !! I’m half italian and half mixed carribean. When my parents divorced I went w my ma, who brings the Hispanic in my heritage. I visited my dad quite a lot and i felt I got a good amount of being raised in Latin culture. They both spoke Spanish (some form of it. Dad knows Italian, mom knows Spanish but they use Latin roots so it wasn’t that different) but didn’t teach me while I was younger because they thought it was difficult to learn English. When I was older I was ashamed for not being fluent in either language and I thought I was disappointing my culture. I picked up Spanish, and am currently learning Italian but I thought this was really helpful for my past self. Good luck with your Korean !! ❤️

This was a really nice video! I've been looking for videos talking about how to learn without having constant access to a native speaker (partially because I don't know any native speakers, and partially because I think it would be awkward to talk with a random stranger especially if I'm an absolute beginner so they'd be speaking in Korean and I'd grasp none of it and it would be like talking to a wall), and while you mentioned it, I'm really glad you gave alternatives. Silly me didn't even think about keeping written notes, and I am for sure going to start doing that now. Also didn't know Talk To Me In Korean had an app, which I installed as soon as you mentioned it. Thanks for the really helpful vid!

Which has definitely helped expand my vocabulary as well. 😁 And adding a second language keyboard to my phone, so I can access 한글 easily. And I try to incorporate new vocabulary words in texts with friends who speak Korean. But I'd say definitely learning the alphabet and getting familiar with the sounds and watching/listening to a lot of Korean media.

@@snoopdawgg24 well, she actually typed 용 at the end. Not 요. But to be honest......not even I'm sure because it doesn't make a lot of sense. For starters 한국에서 means "to be in Korea." 에서 is a topic marker for time and places. But the last part of the sentence doesn't make much sense. 잘 means "good" and 보고 means "to look/to see/to behold." 있어 means "to have/is/exists" and 용 means "for." So when you put it all together it says something like "In Korea, looking for a good looking"??? With no subject being in this, I'm taking away that they're looking for a good looking Korean person? The sentence and its structure really doesn't make any sense. So, don't be worried that you're confused. Also, nobody in Korea writes 화이팅 화이팅. You don't say "good luck good luck!" You say it once and that's it.🤷🏻‍♀️
