I like how it looks like the flowers are vibrating, or perhaps singing, with soundwaves emanating from them. I think Georgia O'Keeffe's watercolors often look childlike in the best way possible, for instance, the Evening Star series. You can tell they aren't actually done by a child, but the practiced hand of an artist -- yet she embraced the flat abstraction style a child would use. So I think that's a great compliment!

I love your work!! When I studied art, the Impressionists were my favourite (especially Monet and Van Gogh) as I loved the vibrant use of colour. I find your loose strokes and lively atmosphere very appealing. I always struggled with representational art and felt like a failure because I just wanted to paint spontaneously basing my work on how i felt at the moment and how I reacted to something. (I am not very advanced). But I found art school very stultifying and creatively repressive. I loved doing gesture drawings though and I recall when we did this in class, I was the only one who did the gesture exercise within the alloted time frame while everyone else tried to be too precise and took too long (which was not the point of gesture drawing. I ended up by almost getting away from art totally because i always felt I wasn’t good enough (even for a rank amateur). I wish more schools and teachers would just encourage the creative process. thanks so much for your channel. It is a great gift to the world.

What a lovely comment. And I agree with you that Art doesn’t have to be representational and stuffy. We can express ourselves, our emotions, and create for the pure joy of creating. Don’t you worry about everyone else and that’s awesome that you did the gesture drawings in the allotted timeframe. Keep it up, sweetheart!

I love your amazing videos. I learn so much from you. I was wondering about the new Sennelier soft pastels being water salubals. I use and have everything Sennelier lol (I usually stick to one or three brands if I like them) and discovered a video that came out today about this water soluble soft pastels. I'm hearing they are really pigmented and vibrant colors. I'm wondering if you have used them or are going to have a video with them. I purchased some box sets from Cheap Joes (it's thge only place I can find them).
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I also LOVE Sennelier products. And yes, basically all soft pastels are water-soluble (not oil pastels though). But I think the pastels you might be referring to, with the vibrant color or wax pastels that are named, Neocolor 2 wax pastels. It's sort of strange that they actually look a bit like wax coloring crayons, but when you apply them to a water friendly surface, and then brush some water on them, the color really comes alive. I have quite a few tutorials where I use these to create an underpainting. Now you've got me wanting to use them again! Here is a link to the product and one of my videos using them. Neocolor 2 Wax Pastels: amzn.to/3tTZgV5 (this is a small set but they have larger sets too) Video Using Them: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpxyZ8SqztvKqIk.html

@@monetcafe It's strange to me being that Sennelier soft pastels don't advertise are water soluable however these new ones I saw on Sennelier Live yesterday (not the original Paris Collection half sticks but the Paris Colors in the white box) advertise water soluble and more intense pigment. It's making me think they came out with a new product like they did last year with their new range of oiul sticks. I ordered the new soft pastels yesterday from Cheap Joes (it's the only place where I can find them so far) and compare them with the Paris Collection to the Paris Colors to see if there is a significant difference. Sennelier and Schmincke are my favorite soft pastels especially I enjoy the Sennelier oil pastels. I have the Caran Dash Neopastels along with the Neocolors 1 and 2 LOL! but after using Sennelier oil pastels it's hard to go back to them. When My new Sennelier soft pastels come in I'll compare then to see if there's a difference between the water soluable capabilities between the new and old range and will let you know.

beautiful painting. is it possible to first paint the opposite color as the base? I've seen acrylic painters use green first and then pink over it, to give more depth.
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 6 ай бұрын
Yes you can! It's actually a favorite technique of mine. I basically tone the surface with the color that is a "complement" (or opposite on the color wheel) to the main colors in the reference. It really makes the color come to life.

Hii ma'am, is it possible to create moody paintings with soft pastel on a normal paper?
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 6 ай бұрын
If you mean regular sketch paper by your description of “normal“ you can get decent results but nothing close to what you can get with professional pastel surfaces. You can’t get very good results if you’re just using, for example, printer paper. But there are some affordable unscented papers that will allow for pretty decent results. One that I like is, Canson MiTientes.

I am often confused about etiquette. I thought the whole idea was to follow a tutorial in order to see what one needs to do to emulate that artist. So I try to remember to always give credit to the artist whose painting style and therefore particular paintings was what we were supposed to do. So whether it be Monet or Van Gogh or an artist whose tutorial shows step by step how to paint what the artist is painting. I thought it was a great way to show others what you love by other artists. I always try to reveal who I am trying to emulate, because to me that is the starting point I should start with. I follow two artists' tutorials, one being Susan Jenkins. The homework album fir us students has many different examples of recreations of the artist/teacher. I'm new to learning art but I only share with my Facebook friends and homework album of said instructor. Now I'm deciding not to share the tutorial painting as interpreted by myself. So do I sound as if I get this?
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 6 ай бұрын
Hi Carol, it's not really necessary to share about which artist you may have used as inspiration from their "style"... as long as you are using a different reference image. Pablo Picasso actually said, (about creativity in general), “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” He didn't mean that we steal or recreate another artist's work, but we can use their style. But of course, if you recreate from an actual tutorial and use the same reference then it is certainly best to share the name of the artists you created from. Hope that makes sense sweetie.... and perhaps I can address that in a future lesson. :)
