LIke, yeah.. hands are a pain, but it's much easier to obscure, hide or completely omit hands, without making it too much of an eyesore, than it is to omit a head when drawing at least the entire upper body.

I was struggling with many of the other videos because they never stressed the importance of the proportions of the oval. As soon as I learned that it has to be 2/3 the hight of the sphere and equidistance from the symmetry line, I saw an instant improvement. Thank you.

Same. A close friend of mine from High School has been on my case about getting back into my art. I've found Marc's vids entertaining and informative. It's my first time using the pen and tablet, it's a bit intimidating and all my circles look like teardrops but I'm gonna try to make a go of it
@atinity6749

Same here as well. One of the hardest things STILL is finding a proper position for my hands and elbows. I try to place my hands how I would if I were simply drawing on a piece of paper, but it doesn't work because I usually hold the paper in an angle and shift it around depending on what I'm drawing on it. Immediately after I lift my gaze up on the screen, it feels weird how I'm handling the tablet. I tried those drawing tablets with a screen on them but it didn't work. The pen cursor was like a two centimeters off, the resolution was like shit both in my pc and in the tablet screen. Just, no... not my thing. Maybe if I found the right one but I haven't the money to buy multiple devices to try them on. Also I've been drawing faces a lot and starting to get decent at it, I have spent last year trying to draw faces from different angles, only to realize NOW that drawing a face from the front is the hardest thing ever. It just isn't symmetrical. All my faces look like they suffered from a stroke! I could use tools or grids and rulers but I don't like that either because then it looks too symmetrical. It doesn't look realistic, or interesting. Or even beautiful. It just looks like a robot face.

Out of my 4-5 years of drawing, I have only ever been able to draw forward-facing profiles. I tried so many tutorials and tips for drawing other head angles and I never understood. It has always been something that blocked me from improving my art skill. Today, after not drawing for awhile, I stumbled across this video. It makes so much sense to me!! It's simple, but in the way, I understand what each line and shape is for- It makes me so confident in approaching different head angles that used to be way out of my comfort zone. I have NO CLUE what I'd do without this video. Thank you so much. Absolutely life-changing.

I usually don't comment on videos but I want to thank you for your tutorial. I always wanted to be able do do sketches of my OCs but I was never good at drawing. It didn't matter how much I practiced, it never worked for me. I am a very technical person and I really need tutorials like this which explain me how the proportions do work. I always need that little formula to be able to draw it. I was truly shocked when I first saw something resembling a head. I've been trying to draw head the entire day and no tutorial helped me as much as yours. So I am very thankful.

How to draw HEADS? How?? Like that maybe? Here's a chapter from the much longer anatomy course I did covering how to draw the head in any angle. Heavily inspired by the many Michael Hampton books laying around here, who probably learned it from Loomis, who knows. Hope this helps, share it around if it did! It's a bit slower pace to make sure even complete beginners can follow.

Hey Terrance thats a great question! Look the video of Etahn Becker, called: "Avatar breakdown i 3 steps...", basically what you need to do is maintain the proportions, the size of the forehead for example, and trace tangents to place the eyes at the same spot, and to keep the wide of nose, mouth, etc... The video explain that so much better, my english is not the best... Good luck with that!

This was really nice, because... I've been studying the loomis method for a few weeks now (I'm a beginner), breaking down people's heads into that structure grid, sometimes breaking down other (I know to be professionals) artist's work, and I'd notice the line at the temple (?) wouldn't be as parallel as I thought it would be but the way you pointed out in your video at 4:33. And it's like, even though having the knowledge of f.e. what the loomis method is and knowing where the planes should go, I know I still haven't grasped it fully since every time I do a study I learn something new. Uhh, what did I want to say with this... basically, you reaffirming an observation I had made me really happy and I'm thankful for the information :D
