Man this took a while, but drawing faces is the best so I'm not complaining :D Hope this helps at least one person or pet, reminder you can still get my brushes for free right here (first one cubebrush.co/mb ) since we won't be out of this covid mess for a while. Have a creative weekend! (or I'm calling the police) Disclaimer this is a recipe so you gotta have some handle on fundamentals for this to be beneficial. I tend to make male characters have longer eyelashes because of this fact. If the girl is wearing makeup though she may have massive eyelashes
@vp3841
@vp3841 3 жыл бұрын
Men's eyes are usually set deeper in the skull and, as a result, the upper eyelid looks more hooded, which makes the eyes and eyelashes look smaller compared to the rest of the face. Women's faces tend to be smaller, the eyes are set less deep and the eyebrow ridges aren't as pronounced which makes the eyes look bigger in proportion to the face. Add makeup and you're left with the illusion that female eyelashes are longer than male's.

Sounds like an art block to me. Just take a break and do something else. At some point you will pick up the pen again - but don't expect to much from yourself then. Even though you might still have the knowledge, your musles and your vision-to-paper have lost some bits (due to the drawing break). So start with some fun little things and not a big artwork. I always make this mistake and am frustrated afterwards. Good luck in your journey to overcome art block.
@daQuietsho
@daQuietsho 3 жыл бұрын
Gonna throw in my agreement with Byron's observation. I too have had to take several hiatus in between art flows. I never keep track of how long either, whatever my brain and muscle memory needs it takes. When muse hits, it hits hard and often, when I try drawing again, I scare myself with how close the image matches the mental picture... and that's not counting how quickly I can complete it too. Another suggestion; try switching mediums while taking it slow. If you work digitally, go back to pencil and paper (sketches, doodles, etc.). If you do character specific stuff, try landscape or still-life. Go industrial, practice perspective, abstract, water color, work on color theory a bit. Don't plan anything serious right off the bat. Go back to your roots, the reason why u wanted to start drawing in the first place. Is it fun? Relaxing? Challenging? Satisfying? Try to remember how you feel when you're create, and it'll carry over into whatever you do!! Imma stop there. Best wishes!

Generally: - We suffer the same-face-syndrome when it comes to drawing girls. - There are some days when we can't even draw a simple static pose right. - We often feel like our sketches always look better than the finished product. - Customers somehow seem to favor the first sketch out of the tens or hundreds of others that come after. Anyone cares to add?

@@yoyop0ptart Rough. My stories are still spinning in my head and I'm still a decent artist, but the past year was pretty difficult- Everyone in the shop I work in quit, I had to start working more ot, then I quit, then I went back two months later because no job would pay me that much but I still had to work way too much. Got disappointed in my art again, realized I'd never find the time to be as good as I want to be. Though, more recently I've realized I have all the time in the world! It's not like I cant refine my craft in ten years. I've also realized a lot of the comics and manga that I love aren't nearly as polished as I first thought they were and that I shouldn't judge my own stuff nearly so harshly- that being said I'm still not drawing at the moment. I'd like to, but I still get annoyed at myself every time I pick up a pencil. I'll do it. I will... I need to be in a better place first.- mentally, physically... Thanks for asking ^_^ That has actually been on my mind lately and no has asked.

@@Xsyuanari Hey bud, I can see you have come to some very important conclusions -- well done. You are absolutely right, you shouldn't beat yourself up about not being able to do art at the moment. You still have a lot of time, but perhaps more importantly, you are more likely to get smoothly to a place where you can draw again if you are kind to yourself, focus on one thing at a time abd give yourself some time. I really think you are doing the right thing, and if the ideas are still spinning in your head, that's great, that puts you in an even better place when you are ready to put pen to paper. Really well done, congrats.

I just got into digital art, and drawing more generally, for the first time in about a decade and felt so overwhelmed by all the stuff to learn. It's definitely been a lot of fun so far but is one of those things where I didn't know where'd be best to begin. Your videos have been a godsend, I stumbled upon them on my lunch break and I'm so excited to practice when I'm done! I am especially grateful you went over comic style heads instead of full on portraits (though I have that video saved too) because as a newcomer I think all the resources aimed at trying to recreate something real and detailed can be really dry for someone who just wants to do a more cartoony style but doesn't have their own style yet. Tbh I'll be using your videos to establish a lot of my fundamentals in addition to my own interests/references. I really enjoy your format, pacing and general content. Thank you for your work!

1. Take your pencil. 2. Draw a circlish line very lightly. 3. Make adjustments to it (lightly) where it doesn't look right until it starts to. 4. Pick a line that looks best out of the mess you have on your paper and trace it. Boom, you have a decent circle. Nobody said it must be a single motion.

I swear my art quality usually drops when I use guidelines like this. Not just that, but I also tend to draw the face, or at least the eyes&nose before drawing the head to match. Well, for the sake of gaining some consistency I'll keep headbutting this wall till something breaks.
