This is the content we needed. The progression of skateboarding. The difficulty of tricks. These are the videos regular people (non skaters) need to watch to show exactly how the struggle and difficulty of skateboarding really is. Practice and repetition is everything in skateboarding. LOVE it Zack! Thank you and hope you had and have a wonderful birthday.

Skateboarding comes very easy when your young since we are fearless and don’t have any pre conceived notions of skateboarding and get harder to learn the older people get due to mental blocks, misunderstanding, embarrassment. I remember learning to kickflip in 13 tries when I was just beginning and figuring out basic grinds on a little sketch X factor rail and pretty much had all the fundamentals down which made learning new tricks pretty easy. And then my buddy tried learning at 30 and took months to do a kickflip since he wouldn’t commit for the life of him.

I use to skate from 98 till 2006 or so, then neglected it for almost 15 years and I started skating again 2 years ago and now I’m way better than I used to be! Brought back 360 flips and even some other tricks that I didn’t know how to do back in the day. So cool to see more people after 30 starting to skate again! Respect 🙌

Park transitions is 110% more fun than freestyle flip tricks.. whatever makes you happy or miserable... spending 2 hours at a hot azz skatepark trying to learn 1 flip trick that originated from freestyle on a less than ideal bigger board is NOT FUN or enjoyable especially at 36+ lol.

what sucks is in my case I had them on lock for a few years and before I quit skating I couldn't land one to save my life anymore losing tricks is arguably worse lol

The key for 3 flips for me (recently started learning them at 32 ) -was trying less hard. Get some tension on the board between your feet. Use the big toe to grab the edge. Front foot is just a guide. Make sure you only scoop the board while your momentum is on the way up before you pop/scoop. This will ensure you don’t trap the stored energy you put into the board by building tension. The better you get at this the less hard you’ll have to try to get the board to come around.
@Rufusdos
@Rufusdos 10 ай бұрын
That thing about storing tension is the key!! I‘ve tried to explain it to people, but it‘s quite hard to communicate. It‘s a bit like snapping your fingers. But that‘s the only way to make the board accelerate instantly into the spin!!
@bigvelcro

100 percent agree. Also letting my front foot raise higher so the flick timed later helped with this concept for me and made mine way more consistnent

Awesome video Dowdy! Started watching your videos a few months ago when I got back into skating at 34. I'm feeling the inspiration and the motivation! Thanks for sharing the battle and the embarassment. Other than seeing you stomp the trick at the end, the highlight of this video for me was in your second or third session when you kinda landed but then fell on your butt on the board, pulled your feet up off the ground, and did a look back at the camera like, "Does that count?" I was dying! You're a legend. Mash!

Super sick video! This is one of my first times watching this channel and am definitely impressed by the commitment/dedication. Tre flips are quite the battle to learn but it looked like you had them on lock after the first one you landed. What has helped me the most is building pressure between both feet while keeping all my weight on my back leg, if that makes sense. Also, really focusing on flicking diagonally forward, behind you(rather than straight behind you). Hopefully you continue to progress and get them more and more consistently. Definitely one of the best feeling tricks in my opinion👍

i really love that about skateboarding. everyone has different tricks and styles/ approaches and there's always something new to learn. i remember 360 flips taking me the longest to learn but once you get em they just get easier with muscle memory. also noticed, since i've been changing my set up from 8.0 to 8.25 to 8.5 they take more effort once you get to a larger wheelbase. Been riding an 8.5 for a while now and just decided to go back to 8.25 because i feel i just don't have them as consistently as I used to. Happy belated birthday homie!

Hey Zack, I’m loving the vid! Not all the way through yet but I’m at 29 getting back into it and also an Oceanside local so I hope to see you one day lol. The one tip that helps me the most for this trick is to keep like 85-90% of your weight on your back foot to get it to rotate better, keep it under you and have less chance to land on the nose! I’ve yet to relearn 360 flips because I’ve been trying to work from the ground up this time around instead of skipping a lot of steps as I did on my first go at skateboarding.

Amazing, much respect, bro! I first learned 3 flips in 97 and was doing em off stuff, but was breaking boards so often that I never really got it dialed. After a 15 year hiatus, I started skating again in my late 30s and got em back, only to lose em again each season and have to relearn the trick. There are countless 'hacks' for this trick as to foot position and weight distribution, but the main one for me is always just to commit to putting your feet on, no matter what. Just forget about the scoop and the flick once you've worked out the basic idea and just say: I am going to land my feet HERE after I scoop the tail, and stay on. Sounds obvious, I know, but it's easy to build bad muscle memory and timing by consistently catching the board with only 1 foot. Hope to see more videos of you refining this one. Oh, and good for you that you weren't thrown on your back too badly, that's something that happens sometimes when learning these, lol

I would happily trade my tre flips for your gnarly transition but that’s just me! It’s funny how we have those tricks that are just almost incompatible with us. For me it’s impossibles. Not scared of them I just physically can’t make them wrap. Muscle memory is so strong in getting out of the way of the trick I cannot make myself wrap no matter how hard I try.

that was sick man! if you leaned back more you would have those nice leaning forward is just making you go in front of the board instead of pushing the board in front of you. I had the same problem for years and made them very difficult for me ever since i made that adjustment i've been able to land them a lot easier. Hope you have a great day!

Nice job, mate. Honestly, it's good to see the blood, sweat, and tears as well as you verbarlising your thought process/embarrassment at your "failures". Natural processes that everyone feels and goes through, but they think that other people just somehow natural "get" it.

dude, you made it! yay! It's one of those tricks that has a feel and totally depends on preassure between the front and back foot to be easy-ish. Haven't been able to do one since i hurt my back knee but i'm getting there, almost got the impossible down again and that's pretty much the same feeling of preassure, just a different scoop and different backfoot position. The first ones are the hardest and when you're down with what it shoud feel like you'll be making them all the time pretty much. It's one of those tricks you have to feel it. Like a backside revert if you know what I mean. Without knowing what it feels like it's freaking hard.

It's so true, the more my foot placement felt awkward the better it worked

Back in the day if you could 360 flip in Utah consistently you were gods gift to skating. 360 flip and front side flip were the most badass tricks where I was living.

This was inspiring video, congratulations! 🔥🙌 I was 37 when I landed my first 360 flip three years ago. I remember the struggle, frustration and the feeling when finally landed one. Never too late. 😃🤙

360 flips is the reason I bought a skateboard last year. I felt it was an unfinished business I had to put to rest. I'm 44 and I can happily say I've got pretty consistent at them.
