Guys, this is an academic setting, not a tourist trip, and the point is to learn how to speak as best as it should sound like and build confidence that they can. If you're capable of it, why not put in the effort, be a little rigorous, and try and learn it even if it's unfamiliar to you? Idk why everyone is complaining when the professor is encouraging them to do their best to pronounce it as accurately as possible, not putting them down. And for the ones saying "everyone has an accent", no, there are lots of people who actually actively try to sound like a native, plus there are letters you have to pronounce in order to even speak the language. English is my forth language and I pronounce things the way an American would. It's not impossible.

So many comments of deaf and dumb people claiming the arab girl to be rude or whatever. Listen carefully in the beginning. The Prof sets a scenario. She has to prepare the girls to greet a Sultan. Like making sure you have correct posture and pronounciation of words when meeting the Queen. The Prof wanted her not to just let their incorrect pronounciation slide and make sure they get it right. I am turkish born in germany and all my childhood i let others mispronounciate my name and instead of owning it, i let it slide. Why should i?

My girlfriend is Arab (Syrian), and maaaaan let me tell you, it took her weeks to teach me the differences in how letters that sound eerily similar where pronounced. My advice to anyone trying to learn Arabic would be learn the alphabet, learn how to read how the letters conjoin, and then learn basic words. Once you can introduce yourself, start learning conjugations, parts of speech, and then boom

I see this kind of thinking all the time. When english speakers learn chinese and have a slight accent, they are made fun of for not sounding perfect, but the Chinese speak english their accent is very intense, but no one makes fun for that. I think this why lots of english speaker do not learn other languages. They are ridiculed for it

languages ain't just different words, they are different phonetic sounds. some languages share phonetic sounds but others have completely different ones which gives them accents. as long as someone is trying to make themselves understood why should a slight accent matter? accents can be cute and funny. in Britain we have lots of different accents that can distinguish where you are from down to the city.

@@dizzyrjl3713Context, like in english, is everything. In both scenarios, the greetings can't be translated any different if mispronounced. At worst, the Arab would know they aren't native. I live in south London and in the Muslim community here, many people who have literally zero prior experience in Arabic learn it fluently sometimes in just a couple years. I’m currently learning, and as someone who is a native English speaker and also taught myself Spanish, I can definitely say Arabic is harder, but with dedication anyone can learn any language. No exaggeration. So if you’ve always wanted to learn a new language but it seems far fetched, don’t let these ‘categories’ intimidate you, they are only meant to help set your expectations.

@Musa he means the pronunciations. Even if someone learns Arabic perfectly, as a native Arab you can tell if they are from India/Pakistan or British/English or other regions by their accent. Usually its very hard to get a seamless accent.
@ElGuapo4000
@ElGuapo4000 Жыл бұрын
@@zoomermcboomer4771 tbh I still disagree, for example the hardest sounds for English speakers to learn are typically; ع غ ض خ ذ I have all of them down to a tee and I’m not particularly talented or special I just worked hard. My Qur’an teacher who is Algerian actually thought I was Arab when he first heard me recite. My point is, I think people play up the difficulty of learning these different sounds that aren’t found in their native languages and thus often talk themselves out of trying to learn a language like Arabic.

@Hazem ameen you are wrong about the ‘ayn sound. Even though some muslims can’t speak Arabic fluent they still do read the Qur’aan. Africa (east specially) is known for their madrassas. They know the tajweed rules and now very much how to pronounce the ‘ع’. Hence they can pronounce all the letters. And a lot of east African countries were colonized by ‘Arabs so they have some Arabics words in their vocabularies. It’s usually the Asian muslims who have a harder time. They usually change the ‘ظ' to a ‘z’.

@@xSunnyDaysx I'm aware, even Muslims here in India are capable pronouncing 'ayn and qaf and ghaiyn when they recite the Qur'an or chant prayers. I just meant they don't use it everyday conversation. 'Assalamu a'laikum' is a part of everyday conversation.

Yeah. If you’ve not been exposed to certain sounds by the time your brain’s myelination is done at age 5-6 then you’re doomed to have an accent. No shame in not nailing sounds from very different languages. It’s like a French person struggling with th-sounds in English.

Beyond words that you merely don't know how to pronounce are sounds that you don't even notice. Those are much harder. Go back to the way the Arabic speaker pronounces the A in Aleikum. Notice this time the way she says the A as if her throat is being squeezed as she says it? Not doing that will count as mispronouncing!

Google translate really annoys me, it translates foreign languages if they are written in the native alphabet but when they use the Arabic indo Latin 🔤 alphabet it doesn't. a lot of languages have use the European alphabet to write their words for use over the internet but Google can't be bothered to get the translations programmed in.

@freestylegamingartist8192
@freestylegamingartist8192 Жыл бұрын
Yes, these people dont understand the nuances of Arabic language or any language for that matter. She is not unappreciative of their attempts, she is genuine about trying to get them to pronounce the letters authentically. People in the comments are assuming she is rude because she is honest and assertive (even though she wasn't pushing it, the teacher told her to "own it", encouraging her to correct them and aim for proper native pronunciation) and he's right in doing so. To coddle beginner learners means to never teach them the right way to pronounce things. Sure, it takes time, but they asked if she pronounced it accurately.. which they didnt. it's just fact and the commenters are offended by this. She didnt attack or offend, just reluctantly pushed them to say it right. If they cant they can learn eventually in sha Allah, but to lie to their face and say they said the right letters is just that: lying to protect peoples feelings. What about protecting the truth? Theres nothing offensive about failure, we must strive to do better. I would hate to learn that the languages I learned I have been pronouncing wrong all along because my teachers and learning materials never corrected me to say it right. People need to wake up and smell the roses, she was not mean at all in fact she was reluctant to correct them because she didnt want to offend them shes very polite and honest upstanding woman. I wish she would have more confidence in sha Allah. :) I just know people would never mistake her polite reluctance to correct if she had conveyed her attempts to teach with more gusto!

السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته وبعد Firstly, how can we not be concerned about the way she's wearing that thing she calls a hijab, which is not in line with the proper definition of hijab? Furthermore, should we turn a blind eye to something that portrays an incorrect image of Islam? Islam is not a game; you can wear whatever you want. On the contrary, we are obligated by Allah to wear the hijab according to its rules, as mentioned in the Qur'an. It would be better for you to learn the correct instructions of Islam (if you are a Muslim) and not write whatever comes to your mind. U better watch your words carefully. و السلام عليكم ورحمه الله.
