Anouk Schmitt has two paralyzed legs and is confined to a wheelchair. But she may learn how to walk again with a walking robot. Her dream is to stand before her partner Lukas at eyelevel.
Anouk Schmitt is only 24 years old. But a serious illness paralyzed both her legs and confined her to a wheelchair. An exoskeleton could help her regain some independence. Her doctors agree the walking robot could even contribute to slowing muscle loss and stabilizing her circulation. But an exoskeleton is expensive, and only a handful of insurance agencies cover the costs. Anouk Schmitt is fighting for her dream of walking. On Your Own Two Feet - Walking with an Exoskeleton A Report by Florian Nusch.

I think the government should provide the exoskeleton for wheelchair users, but I also think that the private sector could use and develop less expensive and more accessible technologies. The government could be encouraging companies and independent professionals, for example, to use plastic injection printers and other technologies already on the market to help build the exoskeleton and make it more accessible to people.

i see your point, but i personally think that these developments would have still come about if the military had not been a driving force, after all, this kind of development comes about from compassion, not hate

pizzario i agree i would have taken longer, but then that would suggest that thousands of people would not have lost their legs, for what always turns out to be a futile effort, plus, we can only make that assumption because of the way history has been

No, only if the motor could be whisper quiet. Does it always have to have you walk that slow?

Maybe, an assistive technology assessment would have found out that the re-walk would’ve worked better than the wheelchair. do people in your country, Germany, do assistive technology assessments for people? If not, I think they should. That might help avoid an issue like this in the future.

ReWalk exos got approval by all German insurance carriers. If you live in Germany, the cost is covered! If you live in the United States, the VA administration approved it already and Medicaid is pending. Contact your Congressman/ congresswoman in order to expedite insurance coverage in North America! If have seen the exos in-person and can tell you is miraculous machine for all disable people.

The noise of the exoskeleton is annoying. Moreover, beside walking they still cannot do any other things, as they still have to use crutches.

If I had the money it would take - I would approve these devices for every paralyzed person willing to do the work to use an exoskeleton.🤑

Please take special note: this is what vaccinations can do to you. Every shot is some degree of toxicity. Anouk was poisoned by a hepatitis vaccination and lost the use of her legs... In regards to "walking" when paralyzed... to me it makes more sense to position someone on a Segway-NineBot. They can be vertical with the self balancing technology, mobile and control with their hands. Much simpler and already in existence.

Not going political here, but in France 11 vaccines are mandatory since 1 January 2018... Wonder how much pharmaceutical companies paid for that law to pass

You make an excellent point. I suppose they paid a great deal to the politicians, but as most people already drunk the coolaide they may have gotten a cheap deal. Do you think the politicians would give away our free choice for free?!

...and MUCH more cost effective! I have a real problem with the exorbitant cost for such contraptions...there are people living in utter poverty who don't have the basic needs of food and shelter being met. To me, this is a futile attempt at pretending one isn't paralyzed and the cost does not equate to the improvement in one's life. BTW, I have been electric wheelchair bound since 2007.

As a retired aerospace engineer, I know that it's true that there is a Risk to everything, as well as a Cost. And I'm sorry that Anouk Schmitt was paralyzed as a consequence of her vaccination. In the US, an attorney would advocate in court in your behalf and seek damages/compensation from the pharmaceutical company and the doctor to at least cover your medical and physical therapy expenses, including prosthetic devices designed to assist people in their ability to walk. It seems to me that Germany, as an advanced country, can afford to extend that support to its citizens. I mean, technology is the engine that is powering our 21st century and if we develop high-tech devices to facilitate life/living, then we should try to use it. Or else, what's the point?
