So..... Despite my daughter's eye rolls I ended up getting a board, powell peralta reissue, it had to be done. My birthday was yesterday, I'm 44. This was an awesome video. Great tips! I was not a good skater as a kid so I am really learning all this from scratch. Thanks man!

Thanks so much for the video even if it's a few years old. I'm learning to ollie at 48. I skated at 13 for a bit and gave it up. I started a few months ago as my two boys have gotten into skating. I'm loving it and wish I'd never stopped. Your videos are great for this old dog trying to learn new tricks. Keep 'em coming!

Started up again two days ago. Scary when you're 25 years older and nearly a stone and a half heavier. Luckily I could skate when I was young so it's coming back, albeit with more aches and pains than I used to get! Apart from the slams and the initial doubts about my age I feel really good. A new buddy mentored me back into skating and a little 'let's see what happens' trial turned into a five hour session at a mini ramp in the park. Dropping in, rediscovering old skills and finding out I can still shred, a bit, has done me the world of good. Even drew an audience! Its not often you see a balding grey haired guy on a ramp here in the UK. Haven't had so much fun since I don't know when. Cool videos on your channel, subbed. Cheers.

Just started at 40, 5 days in. I'm still learning to ride just flat ground, and was riding switch, goofy, and i kept telling myself pack it up. Well i had my hands full with drink and shirt, was carving heel side, and board slipped out. Not gonna lie i hit left elbow hard and my shoulder felt like it reached the top of my head. The other hand had a metal bubba cup which now has a slight dent. Luckily i pray nothing internal broke, i feel ok. But boy in the moment it felt like the worst happened. Skateboarding is fun, but man is it dangerous lol! Will probably invest in all safety gear because the elbow was the one body part i never thought i would hit, i figured wrists, head, or knee. 😅

I picked up some skater trainers. They have been a game changer to regain confidence for Ollie, 180, shuv it, and soon kickflip. I practice with them on for awhile until I consistently land. Then take them off and do it for real. Big confidence builder. Worth it.

Thankyou for your awesome ch my fellow GenXer! How I studied this trick for so long, my upper thighs were in so much pain by the end of a session :-0 Yes, the sneak inside was necessary, then the garage was needed before eventually mastering them down the local school. It seemed to take so long to unlock, now I'm re-learning and having so much fun again, and the internet helps a helluva lot! Once you start skating it's hard to quit forever I'm finding out. Anyways, keep up the great work, look forward to much more content and stay safe!

Very realistic attitude and approach. I think I’ve really hurt my own timing by forming incorrect muscle memory. This looks like a great way to start over and get that right. At 44, I can feel things that I wouldn’t have felt as a kid! But I think most of that is fighting against my body’s natural mechanics by trying to hard. Thanks for the vid.

I like that advice about rolling slow and just getting the motion without the full commitment. I can Ollie about 2 feet, even boning out, while standing on the same spot. However, as soon as I start rolling, I freeze and just can’t put it together.
@Kankayama3 жыл бұрын
I have also had that problem, skip the stationary ollies altogether , go for the mobile ones, after a few non serious falls and slips you will break out the freezes I hope

Kankayama Laguna I’m getting my rolling ollies pretty consistent now. Now I’m trying to make them second nature. I still have to think a lot before I execute, if that makes sense. I’m also still pretty slow. I’d like to up the speed that I can do them.

great approach. good to come back to it step by step. Back when I was skating, i took a few weeks break and came back to practising my ollies. And it went better than before. High and fast. Hey man, thank you for your videos. When the pandemic kicked in and we all got locked down here in the uk I bought a cheap board with the hope I could learn to simply roll about. 3 months later and I’m confident in rolling but still nervous about learning tricks. A mix between being over 40, a little heavier and fear of being laughed at. Your videos though are stupidly motivating and prove that it’s possible to pick up a new thing and enjoy it. Getting comfortable with that jump is a really good tip! Even just doing a little jump on the board without even lifting the front wheels may be a good way to gain confidence at first. I have Skater trainers and I really think they help with getting the correct motion and timing going but after you take them off, you still need to get comfortable jumping while rolling. My biggest problem is just that. It takes me a long time to get going with ollies because at first I'm just too nervous to do that motion while rolling.

Skater Trainers.. grass & carpet don’t work. My best advice amongst the heaps of ‘How To’ videos is to just get comfortable squatting enough while rolling to get off the ground! The timing of the sequence is exactly what it is... timing. If you haven’t been skating for years and into your 50s, think twice about taking an Ollie on. 60s?! Just don’t. Hope you have a speedy recovery … take it easy man!
