I'm 42, 200 lbs, below knee amputee. Used to skate a lot, I lost my leg as a teenager so I learned to skate as an amputee. I used to be an ok skater like 18 years ago. Just started again with my six year old son. This video was great. Thank you sooo much. I'm just carving and tic-toc-ing and having fun.

I'm still in decent shape for a 50 year old and I don't want to die with regrets over not living while I can. My son is 13 and it'll be a great thing to do with him as he learns. Skateboarding is a great way to burn calories. I started when I was 8, I stopped when I got ill at 28, recovered, then skated consistently until I was 46. Stopped for a year and missed it too much so started again. I am now 52 and I'll quit when I can't physically do it anymore. Advice to older dudes starting out. Definitely wear pads! Your body will thank you. Remember you're not 80 lbs anymore. Baby steps, don't be a hero, those days are past. And if you try to skate vert you won't be running out of anything like you can on a mini ramp. I can't stress the pads issue enough. Don't just wear them, actually practice bailing on purpose regularly. This sounds stupid, but it helps build your confidence. Finally welcome to the brotherhood! skating is the most frustrating and rewarding pastime you'll ever experience.
@ProdigalSuns5 жыл бұрын
Great comment, sounds like you have a good history in skateboarding. Ifully agree on the pads topic. I would be in bad shape without pads right now. Thanks for the comment 👍
@FoxRivers7783 жыл бұрын
It really burns calories? Heck, I guess anything you do to get out of the house and on your feet, would do that to some extent though. Like any sport, is it good for your mental health too?

I haven't skated since 2004 brother..i was never good but i enjoyed it.. right after joining the Marines i shipped off to iraq, after multiple injuries during my tour and 9 months of physical therapy , i had arthritic knee and lower back ,lost nerve on left leg and topped the scale at 309lbs. My 20s were nothing to be prideful about i gave up skateboarding, actually gave up on alot . Now i am 33yrs old , lost 160+pounds and ready to get back on the board..I have fear of getting hurt as i am unbalanced due to my injuries from war but i went fully loaded and bought knee pads , wrist and helmet. I also mentally prepared myself to just skate with no tricks for a year. I started by buying a razor scooter this past month and after your videos i just saw , i bought my skateboard. Keep grinding brother , excited to show my son its never to late. Excited to also give me some joyness in my life. I currently work at a job where i wake up every morning and emotionally and mentally commit suicide . Riding my bike and scooter to work has helped .i cant wait to see what the board hold for me .stay blessed and thank you for this video. Bought a 9x 33inch board / 60mm wheels.

Same dude. I’m 36. I keep an eye out the window until all the younger kids go home for dinner or whatever. Haha. Then I head out.

Kudos to the man! Will have to teach my own offspring to pump and carve. The only thing I am capable of and confident about in longboarding.

This is awesome - thanks! - AND seeing so many comments from older guys getting out there is frigging cool (and inspiring). Haven’t skated since I was 10 and after stepping on my daughter’s new board a few days ago (she’s picking it up again at 30!), I got the bug bad. So at 56, ordered myself one today and man, I’m stoked. Way to go,*all y’all. Just makes me *more* excited to get out there!

Good for you, you'll love it. Did you get some quality pads? That will help you keep it fun until you get your legs back.

Awesome suggestions! I'm 33 and just ordered a complete to start messing around again after being off a board for nearly a decade. I appreciate your time on this video and it brought value to my life. Also I appreciate your Bible reference at the end while your son was by your side. Blessings my dude.

Thanks for the super inspirational vid. Skate when I was a kid (on a Makaha!) and have always maintained a fascination. Got a wild hair and just bought a board I customized. Taking your advice and heading to a nearby skate park.

I just bought a setup online on a whim! I'm 38 in august. It's been over 20 years since I've skated. Thank you for the encouragement. I remember how good of an excercise skateboarding was, and I surely need it lol.

I couldn't sub quick enough cool channel!! I'm 42 and getting back into it.i was good in the day.(94_99 ish) I now have four kids 12years and down.we all have new boards and have been going to the new park in town periodically. There minds are blown that there old dad can skate a bit and are real frustrated that they cant do trick right away.ha its a great way to get them off there devices and get some sun and fresh air.sometimes we get icecream afterwards. Memories.. I enjoy a bit of the word and the positivity you convey!

Bowl looks intimidating to folks but it actually can be much safer than street once you're cruising. I grew up skating but stopped for awhile now getting back into it at 35 nice to see some old heads out there.

Hey thanks for this video. some good pointers. I haven't been on a board in 27 years (43). I feel like I need to loosen my body up and practice alot to get this going again. Im so stiff on the board. Bought boards for my kids the other day and they havent stopped since they got them. I really wish i kept skating all those years its such a great hobby.

cool I still remember how I felt about my first board.. I put it where i could see it from bed as a child.. Its so awesome you'll be able to share it with your kids. Get some pads and go for it!!

A big thank you for giving me the push to return to this wonderful sport. I skated (badly) in the 70's in the first (I think) make shift skatepark in central London and then it was surfing later in my 30's (not as often as I should). In this video you inspired me / helped me to buy the right board (ebay) and begin to start riding again (very carefully). I'm just ordering knee and wrist pads and last week went to my local skate park here in North London town (UK) for the first time since the 70's. I was pretty anxious but felt on top of the world afterwards. I went back today : ) - I'm being careful, going when I hope it's quiet (ish) and keeping that social distance (shame but cool for now). Thank you again PS's - Chris (currently 55 years old and counting). Do suggest another of your videos that I can watch that will help me progess a little more / like tips etc. I can carve and tick tack OK ish and can turn out of a gentle slope!! I'm a gentle kinda guy - Nice!! - Chris xxxx

I'm 25 and watched this to remind myself to keep learning. I stopped skatinf after tearing my ankle tendon at 13 years old. Missed it so much, got a longboard, now have a skateboard and I've been learning at a steady pace and couldn't be happier. Much love, I hope you and your son share many happy moments together 🛹🙏

my ankles aren't the best either from times I've twisted them and I'm only a couple years older than you. I tried riding again just two days ago and hopefully I'll get to tricks but don't have much free time to practice

Five months shy of fifty years of age……just bought a complete setup, today (haven’t skated since age nineteen, due to serving in the Navy for ten years, and losing the desire). Looking forward to feeling young again, and hopefully avoiding the local ER lol. Fuck it-roll on 🤙🏼.

Great video, just what we need! I´m 52 and from Sweden, just got back into skating. Skated a lot 1988-1990, now it feels like starting all over again, balance isnt what it used to be. Hard to realize actually, i want to land kickflips and pop-shuvits like before but one step at a time. First thing is to learn to be comfy on your board just cruisin i think. Anyway cheers!
