As commented, good overall classic CC design. The boat has been offered to me two years ago but I didn’t even wasted time to go down there and bought a Contest 43CC at double the ridiculous asking price of this wreck. Very poor shape that shows that even the original building quality and materials were very poor, just by looking at the hardware and fittings, wood used etc etc. . For someone that wants to burn years of DIY (even at a cost of $50K/year) and at least $100K, this boat may be worth $5K. But for $105K anyone can find a way better build, much newer in close to perfect shape and have life...

So about 1/4 into the video I wrote what I thought the asking price was before digging into the description. I jotted down $60k knowing that was way over what the boat was worth from the condition, but sellers of boats like this are pretty unrealistic. When it the tour was over, I checked to see how much; $80k(?). They're are nuts to be asking that. Standing rigging needs to be replaced, all deck hardware rebedded, deck fiberglass needs sanded/faired/painted, non-skid, all running rigging, complete re-fit below, all new electrical, Engine work ($$$$$$$). And that's just a quick thought. This is more than a severe project boat, that worth $15K on a good day and 3 years to refit. There's potential but a huge cost of man hours and capital.

Man I was just looking at this boat online and found this vid. Love this Brewer design and layout, wow. Surprisingly her Motion Comfort rating is a slightly lower 32.. and she has a Scheel Keel. I really liked the layout of this boat. Lots of headroom and large heads. I particularly liked the wine locker and table setup. While the V-berth was rather small, the aft cabin made up for it. The galley, setae and nav station are all well set up for the boat. There's lots of storage and a LARGE engine room that would make maintenance a breeze. This boat has lots of potential, at the right price. There however is the pinch point. At 80K, it's not worth the time and effort to refit this boat for comfort. With all of the work this boat needs, an offer of 20K would be generous. 10 to 15K would be a better price for this boat. That way for a price of about 35K, including the price of the boat, you could have a beautifully refitted boat and be cruising in style.
@captainbob406
@captainbob406 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, interesting, I was thinking $20K but.... you may be right. I'm guessing there is a lot of hidden problems with that boat that will drive the refit/restoration cost to the sky. Nice boat however, if you can get it at the right price and have the time/resources to complete the project.
@daniellawson9302
@daniellawson9302 4 жыл бұрын
@@captainbob406 That's what I thought. With some sweat equity put into the boat (read DIY) it could be very affordable. I personally am a hands on type of person and like to do my own work where possible. If someone were less of a DIYer and had the work done... Well, let's just say they would need rather DEEP pockets and would be better suited buying a new boat instead.

Even with all the work needed and the asking price, my biggest pet peeve with this boat is the standing rigging right in the middle of the side deck 1:56... You have to lean out over the edge, or as you did, step up on the roof to bypass them. That gets old really fast, my last boat was that way.

I'm not a sailor but if I was going to get a sailboat, I love the center cockpit set up. Mostly because you can have extra privacy and when sailing your at the pivot point of the vessel instead of being at the end of a large floating stick get whipped around. I was curious about what the empty tanks were used for; water, sewage fuel? And why would they be left open? The storage on this vessel was pretty good. The wood work I think could be done one panel at a time. Then remove the completed panels and do the frames. What would you price this boat at? I was shocked at the price of vessels. It seems they are either not worth much or it's out of the ball park. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Looks like a pretty typical old sailboat to fix up. Needs lots of cosmetics...probably new water tanks, and new electronics, and considering the cosmetic shape which is the easiest part to deal with before you sell a boat...so it’s gonna require lots of things you can only guess about right now. But you are right..it’s a good old boat with good bones it seems. A VERY livable sailboat! They could have done all the cosmetics and made the boat look far better cared for. But overall, I think it could easily be given some months of work, and you can add a lot of value to it! Offer 40,000 and see where it goes. I think for 40k and a LOT of diy repairs, you could easily make this $120,000 boat! Just my 2 cents..it actually looks a lot like our boat when I baught her...and look at her now! -Rebecca on SV Brick House

Asking price is far too high. There's not much I'd trust in that boat, which ultimately means: * Replace the rigging. All of it. Standing rigging, halyards, everything. * Replace every bit of plumbing and piping and through-hulls and tanks - especially the diesel tank * Have a mechanic tear down the engine and rebuild it - though I'll say it didn't look too bad * With all the leakages I would be very wary of black mold, which means taking down much of the interior wood to look behind * Based on looks, I'd also want to very closely inspect any and all electronics and wiring for rot, deterioration etc. Bottom line, whoever takes on this boat probably will have to sink a ton of work and money into it.

Attention sail boaters: The market for new sailboats decreases by double digits almost every year for the past 12 years. Fewer people are getting into sailing than ever before. The statistics are published monthly in Soundings, Trade Edition. There are lots of project boats out there you can get for a song. Craigslist is filled with them. I often have people try to give me sailboats but I don't want to be married to a boat project. But for you dreamers, there are some real cheap deals to be had if you look around at craigslist and local boatyards. Marinas often have them cheap too, when they have to take legal action against a boat/owner for dockage owed. Boats are sometimes simply abandoned in marinas and it may take months and hundreds in legal fees to get title and dispose of the boat. Walk the docks and boatyards and ask around. You might be amazed at what you will find. However, I started flipping boats at age 15 (I'm 67 now) and have found that often the most expensive boat is the one you get for free.

I really liked the lay out as well. But at nearly every step there were things that needed work. And that forward v-berth is basically two single berths with minimal foot room. My 20' boat has a nicer v-berth. It would also have been good to know the reason the plastic was wrapped around the bottom of the mast. Probably to keep the rain out, but was there water damage on the inside of the cabin around the mast? And in thinking about it, if the mast rigging is or was loose/sloppy that would explain the the deck/mast interface being messed up. I wonder how much work that might entail? Your next video? Kind of left us with a cliff hanger there now didn't you? Let me guess, . . . You're adopting a kid who comes with an inheritance that will allow you to buy the brand new sailboat of your choice. I'm right aren't I. : - ) Scott W PS - I saw your questions/comments in the La Vagabonde live stream on Monday. What would you say would be the average amount in reduction for what the sellers expects to get for the boat? 20%?

I think it seems to be an honest price for that boat. If they mean the price is in Sri Lankan rupee.

I also like the aft cockpit design. You didn't show the engine room.

do you think people are stealing stuff off the boat while it is setting unguarded like missing port lights ? and what do you think it would cost to dock this boat and store it out of season ?

Definite hard survey before even offering a reduced offer on this. Saw a few big ticket items I would be worried about. And hard survey would help you negotiate.

Agree on the over priced thought. After seeing this video I was thinking more like $35k.

How many years has it been since it left the dock? This appears to be a micro apartment with authentic nautical decorations. For $80K maybe it's a good deal for apartment life on the water front? But if you like to sail, then you'll need to find something else which you can then park next to your "apartment"...how convenient is that?

I wouldn't pay more than $30,000 for this boat. It's solid, sure and well built, but it needs a lot of work. Even in good condition $79k is pushing your luck in this market!

Yikes that price is Way Too High for it's condition! However, it is a nicely laid out configuration, with many great areas of living space. Those tanks would scare me off instantly though. All of the bright work needs serious attention as you mentioned but certainly just maintenance. Seeing duct tape over those rear facing windows concerned as well. The wet heads,at least there were two! You didnt mention much about the engine, like type, HP, hours,etc. All in all a pretty nice boat but just not priced anywhere near realistic $.

Meh, guess technically there is nothing that needs done to that head liner ... except it really should be insulated which would cut down a lil bit on some of that condensation and mold issues. Or if you need to get to any fittings on back of topside ... which looking at that boat is a strong possibility.

I guestimated $35-40.000 before I checked the the price. What did I miss? Must cost 100k to upgrade to decent specs (all of rig seemed tired and what about the engine?)

Huge news that's going to effect everyone, eh? -Well it's still the middle of the school year so you're not setting sail yet. -Boat work videos would be a change of pace but wouldn't require a special announcement. -Buying another boat? Maybe, but I would have expected some focus on it beforehand similar to your shopping around before Freebie landed in your laps. My money's on a pregnancy announcement in the next video.

We sold our almost perfect condition freshwater 1991 41' Jeanneau Voyage 12.50 last year for $75K, so this boat is very overpriced for its condition. Our boat was spotless, had new sails and had 1250 hours on the Yanmar. There is no way I would spend more than $25K on this, especially when you factor the time and money you'd have to put into this to bring it up to snuff.

There is something I am missing with brokers having products so mispriced. Do they do it to collect fees on the slip? In real estate you wouldn't see it as much because in homes needing a loan a house 2-3x's it's value would never appraise. One broker said he "Was sad to see her go (sell), she's brought a lot of interest" This after after several years. I assume he was able to steer these inquirers to other sells thus it was worth sitting on a dog. Anyone know the answer to this?
