Fantastic! It’s always my favorite when I get to watch and when I am limited by materials for a project. That’s when the crazy cool stuff comes out!

Was very interested to see this after hearing you chat about it on the podcast this week. Great looking piece, the leather and brass work well together.

As usual a beautiful piece! I find some of my best pieces happen when I use scrap and don't really have a plan. Love it!

Looks awesome I like the legs attached to the side. I think I might try the leather idea for a coffee table top.

Hi Joey, I found your channel doing a search for gluing leather to wood for a chess table I'm working on. You do nice work! Just subbed.

Hey Joey, Yet another great video & beautiful piece of craftsmanship! Next time you do the leather if you router/leave a 1mm gap round the edges you can just force the leather into it.

When veneering leather I like to color the panel with a sharpie where a seam or an edge will sit. it does indeed stretch from the contact adhesive but it will shrink afterwards. I had better results using a different type of glue that I believe was meant for carpet. (the leather supplier helped out on which glue to use). Nice work!

i have probably 25 full hides from a previously failed venture that i've been at a loss as to what to use it for other than lining my bench vise jaws and a few strops.. this is the coolest idea i've seen and i think im ganna have to do some playing with it. i wonder how this will look 10 years from now, could go either way as i can see it either being nice and worn in, or looking like total shit and wondering why the heck i ever built it lol.. only time will tell.. good idea man and your a better man than me because not only do you have cool ideas but you execute them and film them and show me all for free.. thanks

Ha cheers, my only recommendation would be to glue the leather to really thin ply then glue that into the panel . That way it would fit perfectly with no trimming required. Have fun!

@@KingPostTimberWorks could probably just glue the entire hide to a sheet of plywood and cut it on the table saw, you got so many ideas going in my head now. Your wonderful for sharing what you do and its inspired a stranger on the opposite side of the world!

Joey, love the modesty but it turn out really great looking. The contrast between leather/wood/brass and the design looks real "expensive".

What I've learnt over the years is the importance of getting the sequence of operation right. Seeing that you have a press, why not treat the leather as you would a veneer? And apply it first? You won't like the legs in a week or so...
@Bikeeast
@Bikeeast 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, glue the leather on oversized panels, then cut to final. There is also edge treatments for leather to deal with the fuzzies and colour differences.

I'm sorry if you said it in the video - I missed it if you did: What did you use to adhere the leather to the plywood? Normal epoxy?
