Leaving DISNEY behind - How I Found My Own ART STYLE - 2019 Art Tour

In this video I take you through how I transitioned from Disney fan art to find my own art style in a year, the good, the bad AND the ugly!
I came back to Instagram to continue my art journey in January 2019 after 18 months off, I was just really bored of what I had been doing with the fan art - THAT'S NOT TO SAY THAT DISNEY ART IS BORING! - I was just dissatisfied because I wasn't doing anything original unlike so many great fan artists out there.
This journey has been one of shrugging off a cartoon style to really find my own artistic voice, challenging my skill set and aesthetic along the way and playing with materials from prismacolor colored pencils, through inks, pens and watercolors.

I feel like your new watercolor art style is also influenced by kelogsloop! The white hair, gold, black blue and gray clouds. I think it's cool. You both are my INSPIRATIONS!

This is reaaaaally inspiring! It reminded me of the time when I used to just copy anime drawings, dreaming about getting good enough to make my own, but then I've discovered myself. The next phase was drawing people, and dreaming about being good enough to make portraits, but gloriously failing every time, to the point in which I really thought I will never be able to paint a portrait. Until I did. And now I've learned that you can improve no matter what. You just need to keep trying and finding yourself.

I really love this kind of videos because every single person hast their own journey and that's amazing. I relate with a lot of what you said! I think you're the first one that doesn't use a sketchbook. Would you ever recreate the ones you didn't like that much or hate in your style? that would be a great video or a serie of them.... Do you always plan ahead your drawings and make a copy and paint them or how does it work for you? OMG! i think the first two post i saw from you're account were the self-portrait and the draw this in your style but if im not wrong it was from an account that recreated it. I DIDNT KNEW THAT ABOUT LILO AND STITCH AND I LOVE IT EVEN MORE NOW!. If you like musicals you should watch SMASH, it was a tv show about a musical about Marilyn Monroe

The beginning of the video vs the end of it, it looks like two different artists really! How come I'm in love with every single thing you draw? 😍 I mean your cartoon style was so good too, I love every artwork you've made so far, even the ones you don't like and those you didn't even talk about! 😅 This video is so inspiring and watching your growth and how you've improved is amazing! So thank you for this, ( as a late follower from your lately Queen of thorns dtiys ) to let us watch your artistic journey! 💕

I’m so glad you like the video! It feels like it’s been more than a year to be honest, and I said I hated a lot of stuff but I was too extreme I think, it’s just hard to look back objectively sometimes and remember that at the time I was proud of those pieces.

This reminded me a lot of myself , I used to do random fan arts and nothing so original. Then again same as you I got really bored and annoyed of everything, and one day something just clicked in my head and I started to take the things that I really love and do original works. Made a new ig page and just went with it 😄. I absolutely love your new art style and can't wait for more amazing works from you 💖

@@Finelinernerd Oh absolutely! I do still make fan art but more stylized than what I did before I mostly make BTS ( kpop band) related fan arts, and I make original characters a side that.. Also something else I found helpful is writing down what I need to change about my art and style and work from there, that is my 2020 goals 😃 I see some people make it seem so difficult to make original works but really if you deeply think of what you like and makes you happy then why so difficult?

I finally have time to watch this video through. First question already, where can I find that how to paint a horn video? :D Secondly, I feel you so much with the push and pull, I'm in that stage right now. Dark/Light, Cartoony/Realistic etc. I'm really looking forward to your next work and video :) It's crazy how much and in such a short time your art changed. Motivating :) Wish you all the best! This weekend I'll be in Lodon for the first time. I've seen the countryside which I really loved so I'm a bit nervous. Usually I don't like big cities. Any recommendations?

I love listening to your insights into your works, you sound so genuine and excited when you talk about them and I love hearing that. As someone who still is trying to find my niche with regards to style and skill, I always feel sort of conceited when I look at my works and go “oh that’s really good, I like that!” and I end up feeling like a fake or a copycat. Thank you for sharing all of these amazing works and for sharing your journey as an artist. I am soooooooo in love with everything I’ve seen so far, and I hope I can get to a point where I can look back and see my own progress like you’ve done! Thank you for being an inspiration 💚

It's really interesting to see your transition. Fascinating how one gets from just drawing exactly what you see/others styles/random stuff to a style that's personal and your own. I feel I'm somewhere in the middle of that process at the moment and hope, I can say what you are now, sometime in the future. I really like your artwork and I enjoy your watercolor tutorials. Also I really like just seeing the process of artwork from the first thumbnails to the finished piece.

Finelinernerd oh Lord, yessss!!! My greatest pain is that I never succeed in portraits. Like no matter what, I start drawing one person and at the end it’s a completely different one, no similarities even though I try to measure things and all that. At the same time I’m really good at doing cartoon-ish characters out of my head Still I can’t accept the fact of me being bad and try to work on the portraits and not succeeding again. Devils circle. Did you have to face something like that?

Oh myyy it was so amazing, to go with you though your art journey 😍 Im really happy that you find your unique art style, which is soooo beautiful 🥰😍 I wish I could do the same 😂 But its hard when Im enjoying doing everything. Sometimes I feel like doing full detailed, full shaded piece and the other day I want this simple, cartoony look. Sometimes I just want to use bright colors and then I want to do a night piece where there is almost no colors. And it all makes my art so... inconsequent and messy... I hope one day something will „click” and zi will decide what exactly I wanna do 😁 And watching your journey gives me motivation to keep going ❤️

Hi buddy, I really enjoyed this video, and you really hit a very sensitive nerve with me when you mentioned the bit about not getting used to drawing in sketchbooks, as you feel pressured to making sure that the quality of each sketch/drawing is consistent...THAT'S EXACTLY BEEN MY DILEMMA. I much prefer sketching out on the white perforated computer paper, it's fantastic value for money and so amazingly smooth. Although the downside is I end up with tons of paper sketches everywhere, enough to run my own recycling plant!! I'm so glad that you understand this "sketchbook phobia". I'm sorry to hear that your artwork was stolen, that's one of the drawbacks on posting your work out there for everyone to see, however unless you do, no one is gonna know that you exist. Anyway, I hope to see more of your brilliant artwork. Talking of controversial art, I like to go to coffee shops and fast food restaurants and sit down eat, drink and draw. I draw loads of dragons, too many actually, anyway I had an idea for a drawing of a holy man/ shaman offering a pissed off dragon a sacrifice... a human sacrifice off a human child/baby... but decided against it in the end. I didn't fancy spending the weekend at A&E 😂😂 On a serious note, it is an interesting topic on whether an artist should draw the line on what is moralily correct/acceptable, or if artistic freedom doesn't know any boundaries. I suppose if I was drawing in my own home then it's different but when you're drawing in a public place you have to be mindful of where you are, which is why I wouldn't draw any naked bodies. I'd love to hear your views and thoughts about this. Stay safe and creative buddy, speak soon 😊❤

Hi! I’m so happy you enjoyed the video, I’m sorry to hear you also have the sketchbook fear, Emily Artful said in one of her videos that she draws on random pages so she doesn’t feel the need to work through it page by page and it helps her a lot so you could try that. And I think it’s great that you take any opportunity to draw even when you’re out in public, it’s something that makes me quite nervous 😅 thanks for watching my content, I always love hearing when someone connects to it, J

@@Finelinernerd Hi mate, thanks for the reply, I suppose I could come to a compromise with my old adversary The Sketchbook and glue in my decent sketches onto the book's pages..... just a thought. Yes when I'm out sketching, I still get nervous especially when there are a couple of people standing looking over my shoulder, but I have my music on so that really helps, I can't hear anything or anyone so I just get lost in my own world, but despite everything it has helped my drawing and been a huge confidence builder. Look after yourself mate, speak soon.

@@Finelinernerd Thankyou mate, it's always great to hear from another artist to get their point of view. Art is a solitary hobby and a lot of the time you're wrapped up in your own little bubble, I obviously can't speak for others but with me i tend to go on feelings and gut instincts, if I draw something that feels right than I'll leave it in, not knowing if half the time it's accurate or not, as long as it feels ok then we're good to go. But with things like anatomy then I can't be so liberal, unless it's a fantasy character be it a beast or man, even then you can't just wing it, there has to be some real structure. Thankyou once again for your comments, have a great weekend, speak soon buddy 😊👍✌
