Jake mate, good luck out there bro, it was an absolute pleasure serving with you and I hope that it isn't the last I see of you. Your enthusiasm for life and gregarious character won you a great many friends within the Regiment and you will be sorely missed, of that I have no doubts whatsoever. Always be cognisant however that you may be able to take the lad out of the Army but you cannot take the army out of the lad. By that I mean that, no matter where you go in life and indeed the world, you have earned the title of "King's Royal Hussar" and for better or for worse that is not something you can undo: you will always be a member of our relatively small Regimental family. May you seek comfort and strength in knowing that you have so many friendly faces to turn to should ever you run into any bumps in the winding road that is your future. Writing this now, having commissioned out of the Regiment and serving elsewhere in the Army, I can say that the KRH and what it means to be a Hussar is something I cling onto with white knuckles. You mention emotions and I can tell you now that from my own personal experience, they're something I experienced and still experience regularly. For all the bullshit taskings, fuck-fuck games and wagons consigning themselves to the red corner on James, it is something that you will find yourself missing and I think that's down to the organic component, the Hussars themselves. You are a braver man than I, to step out of an environment that civvies fear but in a perverse sense, seems safer to us on the inside (Stockholm syndrome maybe?). To uncouple yourself from the train which soldiers on, confined to its tracks and instead begin carving your own path in this world. Again, I wish you the best in all of your future endeavours and I sincerely hope our paths cross once more down the line. HUUUSSSSAAR! Wiggo x

Wiggo, you too dude! Absolute pleasure! Thank you for your kind words! It’s been a weird old road of highs and lows but we made it out didn’t we! You’re an inspo dude, your choices to push your self and do as well as you have with a lot of big life changes too is up there with seeing how it was possible to make my step! You’ll smash it bro, leader of men, hussar 💪

Nice one Jake, all the best to you on the next stage of your life! I did what you are doing 30 years ago, be it after 7 years in the senior service :-). Two tips... 1. Keep all of your army photos, memorabilia, gizzets etc. Their sentimental value will increase to priceless after a few decades that make memories of the armed forces lifestyle foggy and forgotten. 2. Don't let the civvies get you down, be patient with them, they did not get the head start into real manhood that you just had. Endex.

Very interesting vlog and insight into the modern discharge process. Welcome to civvy street, there are hundreds of thousands of us out here, and we all have to come to terms with some very strange things :) I served for 9 years Kings Div (Infantry) and still to this day, have some fantastic memories even after 35 years out. You have loads of adventures to face, but you will never forget the Brotherhood........ Thank you for your Service.

I always have some melancholy when leaving a job or place I've spent some time at. It happens even when I've been looking forward to leaving or making a change. You know there are some folks who brightened your life that you just won't be seeing much anymore. That said, change is necessary for growth and widening your circle with new friends is always fun. Thanks for sharing your last week with us. It brought up several memories for me of leaving places and I ended up calling a good friend that I hadn't chatted with in awhile, so thanks to you for that mate. Cheers and looking forward to your van adventures.

I moved to Florida, but go back to England every 2 years. I organize a long weekend section reunion every time I go back home. It’s good to see how the lads have changed over the years, but you can see how we all still hang on to the core of what army life taught us. Except for 1 of the lads that is still in. I don't know if it was answered, but I always thought "MFO" stood for "Military Forwarding Office" or "Military Forwarding Operations" I know when I worked for one of the companies that moved troops around Europe, they were always overpacked, full of books or body building kit for example, and almost impossible to move! When I was in the Army, they always seemed to arrive at your unit just before it was time to move onto the next one!

@@gertrudehumpadink1405, no mate, I was Army. I just like creature comforts. To old to lie on the floor. Some would say that I am a creature. I did to long in the Army. I should have left at my 12 year point but I was still enjoying it then. Stayed in did my full-time. After my 15 year point, I hated it. I find having a pension is disability and not an aid. I have been out 5 years and everything I've tried, I've failed (a little bit like when I was in). I have left interviews where the interviewing panel are in shock crying when they've asked me about my service. Be careful how you answer questions. The one, 'when did you go above and beyond' question they ask, don't be to honest. Whatever you do, good luck with it all.
