Mixed feelings here. I had to watch this twice to digest it. I loved the Gospel rapping CHH Lecrae. So I'm going to miss that. The explanation helps. I love bands like SWITCHFOOT and Skillet too so I think I get it. It's not any different I guess.

It seems like Lecrae just doesn't wanna be boxed in. He just wants to be himself. He talks about God and Jesus directly and indirectly in ALL of his music. Finding who you are in Christ and reaching maturity in Christ is one of our goals. He's doing this. He is reaching so many people who will never listen to gospel, CCM, or CHH. Why so much hate? He is spreading the gospel. He is giving what my generation of Christians are hungry for. Real talk. We need balance--we need to hear a Christian perspective on real life. We need something to ride to in our cars when we are chillin. Let's get real with ourselves and celebrate those who are walking the walk as well as talking it. I pray for Lecrae that he will continue doing what God has called him to do because he is a blessing to the world.

Alex Bustos EXACTLY! Lecrae is in the spotlight with the world putting pressure on him constantly; keep him in prayer for strength and staying on fire for God. After reading his book Unashamed, I felt like we were cut from the same cloth, I just understood him on almost every level and it breaks my heart to hear other Christians tear him down instead of praying for him. He's my brotha' and I'll never stop praying for him! :-D

For those who have been true fans of Lecrae for the past few years, you'll know that he always dissociated himself from being called "Christian rapper". He often said in the past that he is a rapper who is a Christian. In the past, he and others had given the example of a plumber who is a Christian but who never calls himself a Christian plumber. In the same way, they want to be known as rappers who are Christians. This means that they live according to the biblical rules. They will inevitably rap about Jesus for it is the Lord of their lives but they will also rap about their lives (relationships, hurts, social issues, politics, etc...). Now we may disagree with his philosophy but we cannot pretend that he never specified that in the past. He had always told us where he stood. It is just that some of y'all didn't want to hear it.

Lecrae hasn't "always" disassociated himself from the "Christian rapper" title, it's actually more of a recent thing compared to his initial career. I could see if Lecrae became popular off of his skills alone (apart from the Christian rap industry) then he could say, "look- im a "Christian" but I'm not in the "Christian rap genre" like Dee-1. I respect DEE-1 bcuz he was "just a rapper" from jump street who was clean & ppl were organically feeling his style. But Lecrae repped HARD for the CCM,CCH and Christian rap genres for almost 10 YEARS before saying he didn't want to be a "Christian rapper." It was guys like "Wade-O who supported Lecrae & supported 116 from the beginning as "Christian rappers." Wade-O put alot of ppl onto Lecrae. A lot of Christians supported Lecrae back in those days only to then have Lecrae turn around in MULTIPLE SECULAR interviews (after he gained popularity as a "Christian rapper") & call the same "Christian rap" industry that supported all his shows & albums "WACK." Datin finally had to say something, but Lecrae's supporters have been saying what Datin said for YEARS. To be a "Christian rapper" & to have the opportunity to put the word "Christian" in your job title is an honor that a lot of us ppl with regular jobs don't get. Lecrae has deceived ppl into thinking it's ok to disassociate from a Christian title so that you can gain acceptance from the world & "then" have open doors to evangelize the world? Jesus didn't disassociate Himself from God & try to be like the world- Jesus made an impact by being bold enough to die for a title that I'm sure the devil would've loved for Him to renounce. Hopefully as Christians we will be more encouraged to pray for Lecrae. As Christians we tell the truth in love in hopes that a brother in Christ like Lecrae will no longer be deceived by this world but instead repent. God bless.

Siante Love Pertaining to your comment about Jesus, you can refer to Phil 2:5-8 and it might help you understand where Lecrae and other rappers in the Christian side are saying. They are not dissociating themselves from being Christians but they are trying to enter a world that is not theirs and where they can make an impact. In Jesus' case that meant to take up another nature without rejecting his divinity as stated in Phil 2:5-8. According to the Bible, what counts is not how you label yourself but if you have done what God commanded you to do (Matt 7:23; 21:28-31). If God had called Lecrae to be called a Christian rapper and he refused, then he is in trouble. Now, we would have to prove that God commanded him to do so and that he thereby disobeyed God and needs to repent. Until then, I remain by his consistent dissociation from being called a Christian rapper for specific reasons. As for you, have you ever heard him calling himself a Christian rapper in any of his interviews from the beginning (2004)? I have been introduced to his music in 2005 and I have never heard him once accept that "Christian rapper" title. Back in 2012, he had an interview (ihiphop) and the interviewer asked him if it STILL gets under his skin to be called "Christian rapper". I checked and that video is on youtube so you can check it out when you get the chance. The word STILL means that it was his ongoing opinion in the past. Now if you have proof that he used to say otherwise, please feel free to provide. Otherwise, it is not nice to propagate false information/image on another person. DJ Wade-O is well aware of that for he wrote an article about it few years ago. In that article, he had written that many rappers within the Christian community do not want to be labelled "Christian rappers" and they all are supported by the Christian community. And Datin does not say that Lecrae calls them wack but he specifically stated that the way Lecrae answers some questions feels like he is saying that. Finally, how can Lecrae possibly think of them as wack when he has his own peers part of his labels strickly focusing in the Christian world? And there is Church Clothes 3 is an example of his bond with the Christian rappers while talking about social issues.

Siante Love Here are some lyrics to a very recent song on a very recent album of Lecrae's called Anomaly. The song is called "Fear": "I don't want no handouts or favors, no functional saviors I'ma tell that truth till it kill me and I'm chilling with my Creator Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus to all of my haters For the ones that think I forgot him And the ones who won't let me say I ain't scared no mo'" Doesn't sound like he is disassociating with God or Jesus.

As a Christian it's perfectly ok to not agree with Lecrae in a respectable manner, but saying he's a sell out, he's not Christian, he illuminati and all that is foolishness. As Christians no matter who they are, tearing somebody down is not what we do. If u disagree that's fine. But talking trash just exposes ur own heart. I agree with what Crae is doing. He's spreading hope. A lot of times we put so much attention on what he calls himself, we miss the actual message of hope he's providing to those that have none. We need to get back to being positive and uplifting, not being mad just cuz Lecrae isn't doing what we say because he's taking his orders from God, not us.

24:16 Good on you DJ Wade-O Lecrae was clearly moved by the spirit of conviction. Continue to pray for this man and his journey. While I was completely floored by what Crae said about his early projects (Real Talk, Rebel...), he said it himself, we're only ever privy to a small snapshot of his life (a season). Crae, in my opinion, is in the midst of a very difficult spiritual battle within, so please please continue to pray for him. Lord will show him the light. Lord knows I've struggled with my own spiritual battles these last few years...

@ash1698 7 жыл бұрын
Flex Quad I don't mean to offend, but I don't think baking for everyone (especially for your own purpose) is an accurate analogy (although I do see where you may be coming from). When you call yourself a "Christian", you're really not just labeling yourself. Genuine followers of Jesus Christ are called to deny theirselves & take up their crosses daily & be the salt & light if the world (spreading the Gospel). So, when Lecrae said, "...if you want a sermon, go to church" I mean, that kind of tells you what the intent behind this album is for. Yeah, it's absolutely important to be real with people & share your own experiences in the seasons you're going through in life - but just because you're being "real" & "you" doesn't mean you (as a Christian) have the right to leave the Gospel out of your message, just because you're telling your story to the world now & not just the church. I'm not saying that's what Lecrae will be doing with this album, but how he's worded some of his responses to questions he's been given kind of seemingly implies that that's what the album's theme will be. I hope this is making sense? I know Lecrae as a person claims to be a believer & fears the Lord, so, all I am saying is, as a believer we're called to die to whomever we used to identify as in the world. So there should be no reason to compromise the clear message of the Gospel for the sake of being "real" or just "Lecrae as a person", you know? When you're born again, you're given a new identity in Christ that should be carried out in every aspect of your life. (I'm sorry for the lengthy response, & I truly hope this all made sense. In no way was it meant to offend or come off as judgemental or presumptuous, I just meant to give my two cents as to what myself & maybe other people were genuinely wondering). Have a good day. xx

+Ash he labels himself as Christian, not as a Christian rapper. Kinda like the baker analogy, you can be a baker but that doesn't mean you're a Christian baker you're just a baker, there is no religion in a genre or a job, it doesn't have a soul. Lecrae makes the music he makes and at times he talks about Jesus Because that's what he KNOWS and that's what his life center around, he talks about thinks he knows and has been too. He's right if you're trying to hear a sermon, go to Church. He is an artist that talks about his life and a lot of happens to be about his relationship with God, art is art and it has no religion. I feel like a lot of his "fans" are expecting him to be some kind of preacher that needs to talk about what THEY want to hear 24/7 or else he's not a Christian.

* * * * * *ATTENTION LECRAE* * * * * * Choosing to pursue music and lead millions of people is a *serious calling* with ALOT of (spiritual) responsibility... it's nothing like a regular j.o.b. - and actually even in a regular job you should always have the Word(s) of God flowin from your mind, mouth, & heart. You're so scared & afraid to have the word "Christian" attached to you bcuz you've convinced yourself that you're gonna "reach more people" with this luke-warm approach; reach them with what Lecrae, garbage crossover songs? Look at everything that God has accomplished through you was bcuz of *real music,* NOT disposable albums like Anomaly & Church Clothes 3 - Those albums "couldn't be more common if them boys made sense!" *Yeah you MIGHT get certain people to listen but only bcuz it sounds like everything else out there, but it's the message of the true Gospel that stops an unbeliever in their tracks! You should be *honored* to have the word "Christian" associated with you... carry that cross on your back bro, be real about it, and stop convincing yourself with all these phony self-justifications that are convenient only for you and the carnal Lecrae. A man cannot serve 2 masters. All of us are on a journey and I get that, but when it's all said & done I just can't imagine you before God saying "Well I thought this lukewarm junk is what Jesus wanted me to do" ..yeah right. I've been nothing but a huge fan of you Lecrae and I've got nothin but love for your soul, and I can only imagine we will still be brothers on the other side... but at the end of the day I live, breathe, & die for my King 100% no compromise all day every day. . . And don't tell me that's not how you reach people bcuz I've been reaching tons of people for years & years, the same way Jesus & the Disciples *commanded* us to reach people, THE GOSPEL - period. Obviously you don't just walk up to people screaming "repent" that's ridiculous, it should always be done in love (sometimes firm and sometimes soft) and If people want it then they'll get it & receive it, if they don't then they won't (He who has an ear, let him hear!) You can't dress up (ruin) the Gospel like it's a six-flags theme park with roller coaster rides & cotton candy just bcuz you conveniently say it's "your preference" ...my God it's already the most incredible & powerful thing in all of existence, it doesn't need to be "toned down" in order to fit in, it needs to be built up & proclaimed in order to stand out!!! I could go on & on about this Lecrae, and even throw a whole bunch of verses (directly from Jesus) that clearly support NOT having a lukewarm approach but I know you know the verses as well as I do so I'm not wasting the time, but if you truly wanna live for the one & only real God then bring the real *FIRE!* ...when life is over ain't nobody gonna care one bit to be gettin into your backstage, v.i.p., autographs, record label, blah blah blah, it's gonna be the unashamed blood of the cross, or nothing! (Lord, Lord....... depart from me). The elephant in the room here is that you have compromised your message, period... and at the end of the day when you're all alone by yourself in a dark room you know it - And what ever happened to Romans 1:16 about being "unashamed" and all that... dude you're selling out by the year, Columbia records are you kidding me, do you even KNOW the demonic depth of evil surrounding the Columbia record label?! I don't have any hatred whatsoever for you Lecrae, you've done alot of good and I've been a big supporter of you over the years (I mean even as I write this I'm wearin one of your merchandise sweatshirts from a concert) ...but I just don't see you taking your (public) role that you've been hugely blessed with seriously anymore, and I know it's your life you do you right.. but when you have the spiritual role that you have then it's a *VERY* serious responsibility to our King Jesus Christ, and that's why I'm offering my perspective bcuz this is OUR LORD'S KINGDOM, otherwise I don't offer my words like this to random people. I seriously pray you come back to God's will, instead of just runnin around doin "The Lecrae Show" all day every day and trying to find really clever ways to justify it. You really need to (re)consider Galatians 2:20 my brother. I don't know what "culture" you're trying so hard to push forward but what you should be concerned with #1 top priority (as a true believer) is pushing forward the name of Jesus Christ and His kingdom to save the souls of His children that He so dearly loves as small service in return for all that He has done for you/us. I know we are saved by grace but as the Bible says this is the *least* we can do is to offer our lives *100%* as a living sacrifice for everything that He has done... we are so beyond unworthy and yet He loves us anyways and keeps His eye on our hearts 24/7, the least we can do is to live completely souled out for Christ, not sold out for man, money, or for ourselves (& then dress it up with clever/witty justifications. *Much love, peace! *DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD!*

Blessed.2.Teach.4.God How is it that Christian rappers get drug through the mud even when they talk about Jesus but when Christian gospel artist do stuff that don't seem Christian like and no one bashes them. James Fortune beat his wife nobody stopped listening gave him flack nothing. Kierra Sheard said she was sick of being a gospel singer nobody told her anything. Tamela Mann's song one way is terrible and a disco beat no public out cry. CHH artist talk about God and Jesus all day they still aren't mainstreaming. Lecrea and Mali have nothing goong on in their personal life except that they want to direct people in the world to God. Actually they want people to start thinking and all of a sudden he's a bad guy, he's comprised, he's not for God. Jesus sat with sinners and spoke with them and ate with them even to the dismay of his disciples and he was God. We were never called to be in a social club (church).

I came out of making extremely secular music before Christ opened my eyes. One of the very first things God showed me was the delusional mindset that most of this music creates even in the lives of so called "believers". The idea that we must infiltrate the worldly system so that we can slide the Gospel in is not scriptural and is futile to the core. In '09 and a few years after, Lecrae was in my speakers constantly. However, as an Artist myself, one who exalts the majesty of life giving "sound" doctrine and the importance of denying oneself for the sake of Christ, I no longer support his music. We are not supposed to either make music for the Church or make it for the world, all music is to be made to the glory of God, and absent of the need to be accepted by anyone other than Christ. Only God knows his [Lecrae's] heart, but my hands are washed questioning his intentions. SO, Shai Linne, KB, J Givens, Stephen The Levite- these are just a few men of God who feed the spirit and the mind of believers if that's what you like to hear. God bless you Lecrae. I just want to end with saying that the culture has a surplus of "nice" rappers, but a shortage of teachers that refuse to claim neutrality. -Jay

You asked the questions that needed to be answer. 2. You're respect for Lecrae was a virtue of godliness and a bridge for many who felt burnt by Crae 3. I think we all know Lecrae loves the Lord fully. But I think the reason why so many people are upset with him is because He does not fit the mold we see in the Bible. When we look at people like David, Paul, and the other apostles, their message about God never waivered just because of their own personal agenda and selfish wants. I understand what Lecrae is saying about the rules of the art form and such. But the truth is this, when you are put in a teaching position by God, and a leadership position, you are held to a higher standard. Not only that, but we are not to live our life based on what feels good to us. So I get it he may not want to talk and preach Christ all the time, but whether you feel like it or not, that is our job as Christians. We should eat, live, and breath Christ. It should not be a question of who we love. Now I know that can be expressed in several different ways, and in an artistic way, but some things are very clear. Lecrae has been on the defense about this situation. But if you are in the right you shouldn't have to. You should be able to state what the bible states about it and be done. But the reason why he cant is because the bible is pretty clear that everything we do should be for the glory of God, And that our main mission is to bring more and more people to the knowing of Christ. And I think because of his position in the industry some people are afraid to speak up and call it what it is. The current position saddens me. Does no one else see that a great opportunity to reach the lost is being taken away right now. We finally have an artist that is being accepted in the secular hip hop world. No one is asking him to change his lyrics or anything, but he is decided too on his own. This would have been the ideal time to have a great evangelistic movement in the world. He says he felt he is to reach the world with his music. The question is what is his intentions with that. Does he want to reach the world because he wants his name bigger (unknowingly of his sin within him), or is it because he honestly want to make Christ more famous. I don't know, I don't see him putting himself in the background, but more of him putting Jesus in the background of the music. Your actions need to speak louder than your words. Also I know some people think being more like the world will help win more to Christ. Since when did God needed man to do special tactics to win the lost. Since when did God said conform to the patterns of this world in order to reach the lost. It is very clear in scripture. Lecrae may know a lot about the bible, but even the strongest of Christians can fall. And even if he can speak flaterring words that does not mean he is not in a spiritual battle himself. Many of us see it. If you see it like I do, just pray for him. Pray that he will not conform to the patterns of this world but will be renewed in his mind (romans 12:2). The devil is sneaky, and you would be a fool if you don't think he is not trying to confuse people.

You really don't get it do you. If his music was like GOM for example he wouldn't have that platform. The world would never let him get on that platform. CHH is really a limited platform. It only goes do far the way it is now. Lecrae has moved beyond that mold so he can reach further out. You don't even know the names of people he is reaching and bringing to church with him on a Sunday. It's you sho doesn't understand his missionary work.

Lecrae tries his best to stay in the gray area, I can only imagine his reasons for doing so. As believers being able to discern Lecrae's messages through his music we automatically label him a messenger for the Gospel, "A Christian rapper" that promotes CHH. He has been rebelling against those labels and titles that we've given him for awhile, along with the categories that we put him in that promote the Gospel. Here's the problem: Lecrae is nothing short of a pastor who preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ but, doesn't want the responsibility, conviction, or persecution of being held to the standard that of a pastor. So, to keep from being held to the standard that we would see of a pastor, which he is responsible for creating, he denounces any label, title, or category we as believers may put him in, to escape from ideas of him keeping his focus solely on God, with an agenda that would be pleasing unto Christ. It allows him the flexibility of tending to his own agenda, verses the agenda of Christ. Lecrae signing to Columbia records and signing Aha Gazelle, is evidence that Lecrae is no longer interested in carrying those labels that we have given him concerning the Gospel. Lecrae stood on the CHH platform that he influenced until he could afford to move on with his own agenda. Lecrae is no different than any of us, he is a sinner at best just like us. The double standard that Lecrae has created should be no surprise to anyone and definitely shouldn't go unnoticed. Our duty and responsibility in all this, is to pray for Lecrae and those that could be lead astray by confusion and that we as believers continue to discern who is TRULY SOLD OUT FOR Christ and not their own agenda.

We should pray for one another regardless because that's what brothers are suppose to do for one another. Here he goes again, acting like he's above correction and reproach. He has such an arrogance to him, he acts like he has no.repentive bone in his body. What I mean by repentive is the ability to accept correction and change his ways which is an attitude all Christians should have. I know alot of people are commenting that we should pray for him (which we should) but honestly it sounds like excuse for holding him accountable. Let's be real , the more time goes on the less Christ centered he is. Most of his responses are his opinion and not scripture based.

daniel church I apologize if you thought I'm assuming where you'll be spending eternity, that's not at all what I'm doing. I should've explained a little. The new theology lecrae is pushing is with his new "genre" he wants to start, where he essentially is portraying that's it's ok to fellowship with the world, that it's ok to look more like the world does if you're a believer because you're doing it for the sake ministering to them, which is completely unbiblical, and his first step in achieving that goal was asking to no longer be labeled as a Christian rapper and be simply seen as a rapper that just... eh... happens to be Christian. GOD calls all believers to follow scripture and be aware of many false teachings that are contrary to HIS WORD. Our job is to scatter the seed and let the HOLY SPIRIT do the rest, not try and come up with schemes to lure people to Christ, Jesus wasn't trying to tickle ears and be everyone's friend when he was going out to minister to the multitudes, HE was telling them in love exactly how it is, laying the guidelines, showing them the Truth, and letting them know to fully count the cost of following HIM or don't follow at all. Bottom line, anyone pushing an ideology or theology that it's ok to conform to the world in any way shape or form and then trying to cry out that it's being done in the name of Christ is going to lead many astray. Scroll up and read the entire comment Avision Technology put, it's already happening.

Eric Andrade Hi Eric! Being who I am is not necessarily the same as leaning to my own understanding. 1 Cor 6 and many other places in the Bible talk about uniting with the Lord and being one with him. If I have become one with him through studying His word, resisting temptations, repenting, spending quality time with him, prayer, serving my local church, loving others...I'm becoming one with him. So then being myself means that I'm expressing the oneness that I have with him in the unique way that he intended for me to. Does that make sense? I didn't mean that by being myself I no longer rely on God. I mean that you can be a Christian and still not be comfortable in your own skin in terms of being confident and not insecure or trying to be like someone else. In the context of what Lecrae was saying, he was surprised that people liked hearing his personal testimony of where he was in his life vs. a teaching style of rap in a particular song ("praying for you"). So that's what I was quoting from. It resonated with me because I believe that yes we should teach others with our lives and simultaneously if we are one with Christ, we should certainly be who we are in Him as that will also draw people. Thanks for your feedback.

I think when we worry about the "gospel" being "spoken" on records at the expense of trying to connect with people by sitting down with them and sharing the gospel with them than Christianity is blatantly legalistic/immature. Isn't the music the seed that's planted and hearing the gospel from another person the water and then God makes it grow? Instead of rooting for Lecrae to stay on the right path and continue influencing hip hop culture as a Christian. We worry too much about how many times he says Jesus in a song? CHH fans are behaving like Pharisees and secular hip hop fans see it and shake thier heads. They see judgmental, self righteous, selfish fans that want music to themselves and thier church friends.
