I received the Lectric XP Trike Brake Assembly to replace my broken brake lever. Here are the results.
On this channel we test and review ebikes and accessories. Its our goal to help you find the perfect ebike. 70% of braking force is in the front brakes, no matter what vehicle you're operating. Rear brakes will never have the same braking power as front brake, if you're trying to slow down from forward moving motion. If you're reversing, the rear brake will offer more braking power than the front brake. Rear caliper is braking for two wheels vs front front brake only has one wheel. Hydraulic caliper/pistons need to bed-in after initial installation, usually multiple brake lever pull at full force to pre-set the brake caliper piston, it's pretty common knowledge, even for car mechanics.

Appreciate the real world experience. I had a feeling the brakes needed to be broken in to get that fluid working with the correct pressure. But that clunking sound was a concern for a little bit. Hope its working for mom now. Great install video for anyone running into this unfortunate issue.

Don’t forget to clean the brake pads first!😄 Glad you talked about this in a video-I didn’t know that needed to be done. What about a new bike, already assembled-do the brake pads need to be cleaned on those??

For the Lectric XP yes, the disk needs to be cleaned before the first use. Something with the manufacturing process is wrong. But for other ebikes and trikes, no, you should not have to clean a brand new bike.

Question: would it be easy to put the main brake back on the left instead of the right once you take it off like you did? My husband is a stroke survivor and I would like rear brakes and engine cut off on left for his good hand.

That's a great question. I was looking carefully at my trike and I it may be possible. The levers cannot be changed because they would be backwards. Because these are hydraulic lines, you would need to disconnect both hydraulic lines at the levers and re route them from the wire wrap and reconnect on the opposite lever. Then the brakes would need to be bled to get the air out of the system. I have not done this, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. You may want to find a bike shop first and ask them if they will do it.

I’m in need of the tubing of that assembly you removed. I’m not the original purchaser of my trike I’m not covered by warranty. I’m wondering if you would possibly be willing to sell the old assembly or even just the tubing I sure could use it.

@@EbikeReviews I’m actually asking for the hydraulic fluid tubing. Our dog did a number on our trike. Chewed up both front and rear lines and wiring. She has caused a lot of damage.

Thanks. I will be getting new wheel assembly for the Trike soon. So I will be swapping that out. But just changing a tire, not until I need to. :-) @@jbone3212
