At this gig the band was still completely new. Robert and John were only 20 years old, Jimmy already had a career as a studio musician and guitarist for the Yardbirds and was 4 years older. Bassist John Paul was also an experienced studio musician. This is recorded in a small television studio, with a very small audience enjoying the completely new music. Back then, viewers on television stayed calm and listened carefully. It was different at big concerts, the audience roared and screamed.

The next song from this same show is How Many More Times, definitely worth a listen too. I think the crowd is chill because because it is an intimate show that was also broadcast over the radio, so the crowd was probably told not to make much noise during the performance. Also, maybe the Danes are chill folks. 🤔

In regard to the audience, there might have been some rules if this was being recorded for television. However I saw 3 early Led Zeppelin concerts in a small venue, and sat quietly on the floor with everyone else. I was around 40 feet (10 meters) from the stage. Everyone sat quietly, totally focused on the music and performance. We were bedazzled, mesmerized, and amazed by what we saw and heard. I would recommend listening to the studio version of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You because the instrumentation, vocals, and emotion are a lot more powerful. If you like when Robert sings high notes, there are a lot more in the studio version. Even the lyrics were different and much better.

The band and their sound were so new, Robert's voice 68-72 cannot be challenged! He and John (drums) are still 20 yrs old here! Live broadcast so this privileged audience has agreed not to shout or cheer during the performance, a strange concept of that time! They did very few tv appearances or even interviews, preferring instead to have people come check them live or buy their albums to hear this new sound they were making very popular! Check the studio version for this, it's a cover and re-arrangement that was magnificent for the 1st album. Also try some more off the 1st album, you will hear why they took off and became legendary in such a short time! ... "Good Times Bad Times" "Communication Breakdown" "How Many More Times" & "I Can't Quit You"

This was at TV or radio show, very early in their career, before they really exploded. The young audience wasn’t allowed to make any sounds, imagine how hard that was, hearing & seeing them for the first time. This show is so cool to see, but the sound quality isn’t the greatest, but great to see the early rawness of them. Thank you for your reaction. I love the live at Earls Court (1975) In My Time Of Dying, there’s 2 versions, the one is so much better then the other though.

One of their last shows..."The Ocean" , also from the 1973 MSG show, will make you blush a lot, I'm guessing, because of the way Robert, um, looks, lol. "Trampled Underfoot" from 1975 is FIRE!

Almost every single time, it is a better audio experience, and you hear the real song that people will be listening to, far into the future. Their studio mastery was unparalleled, they will blow you away in a totally different way if given the chance. It is great to see them, even better to hear what they really could do, artists of the highest caliber.Just want to be sure you don't miss out and studio audio is great in the car, so Enjoy! Exactly .. the Studio 'Version' is the Way Everyone first heard the Music .. It's the way the Band intended it to sound.. the way it sounds on their First Studio Album, in January 1969. @@vicprovost2561 Conversely however, often the live versions are as good (though different) and sometimes even superior...... especially with Zeppelin. Personally, I find myself listening to live versions more and once you get more used to them they are better to listen to because they have so much more to offer. Im thinking of Dazed and Confused, How Many More Times, The Rain Song, No Quarter, Going To California, Immigrant Song, Over The Hills And Far Away etc. I prefer the lives.

Why do younger listeners make that " sleeping " comment, about the audience? They're DEFINITELY not sleeping. Were you? Watching this 55 yr old performance. Were you sleeping? Its a studio. Not a disco.Or were you just captivated by the sound of Roberts vocals, and passion? The raw sound of the 3 piece band.I saw your face. Perfectly still. Focused. Full attention to the vocals. And instruments Similar to an audience Watching an opera. Or a great magician. Complete attention. Just like you. Even rewinding, to hear particular phrases. No different. Witnessing greatness. That's great music

Ola, you haven't heard "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" until you've heard the Official Audio. It's vastly superior. When Robert sings "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", I swoon and I'm in my 60's! So don't stop crushing on Robert. Quite a few other female reactors have fallen under his spell also. I've learned from long time Zep fans to listen to the original recordings first (produced by Jimmy) and then the concert versions where they improvise. Look at it as the best of two worlds. Either react to the official audio of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" or listen to it on your own time. Next: You should do "When the Levee Breaks". This is one of their epic songs, a cover of a blues song by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe back in 1929. OFFICIAL AUDIO ONLY. You will hear not only Robert sing but play the harmonica.

So believe it or not Plant had laryngitis for this performance. What he was capable of in early 1969 was incredible and although he gives it his all this doesn’t come close to live performances from those days in terms of the stratospheric notes he could hit with incredible power. As much as I love classic Zeppelin, the studio version is actually better than the live version, imo.

Last scene is maybe heaven (they death) or be a rich (earn money from caught criminals and eat steak)

Ouch, you could not have picked a worse version. The recording is horrible and Jimmy is clearly on a different planet on the night. Please find another one - honestly, they are much better than this.

Zeppelin was strange in that, the live performances were almost never as good as the studio cuts.

Agreed, the definitive live version I have seen on You Tube is Page/Plant live at the Amnesty International Concert in 1998, Page does an unexpected and amazing electric solo that is one of the best he or anybody ever did, if you have not seen it go and be mesmerized like Robert Plant was, standing at Jimmy like he was very impressed which says it all!
