Mark Knopfler, the one in red, is one of the top rock guitarists ever. Next time you watch this (I know you'll watch again), pay attention to his hands. One interesting thing about his playing style is that he plucks the strings with his fingers rather than using a guitar pick. That's normal in classical and flamenco guitar, but it's less common in rock. But he's also a songwriter... he wrote all the Dire Straits songs (6 studio albums plus singles), and he has put out 10 albums as a solo artist since then. He's also done 9 movie scores, including the one for The Princess Bride. His most recent album came out in April 2024. He is 74 years old and has retired from touring, but he's still writing and working in the recording studio.

Great reaction and with Dire Straits one of the best rock bands ever this is only the tip of the iceberg. Please try Tunnel of Love and Telegraph road from the same live show and also Romeo and Juliet and Brothers in Arms from their live 'On the Night' show.

I agree with Price (I miss that guy). Knopfler is the best guitarist all around.

They really are the UK twin to Bruce and the EStreet band.Both working class blue collar rock.And they both sing songs about normal everyday people.

I recommend Baby, What You Want Me To Do from the 68 Comeback Special (Sit Down Session) - Elvis was dynamite at this particular time - he reigned his career with the TV special and was on top form for the next 2 years.

I first discovered them in 2003 Waking The Fallen (2nd album) the songs "Unholy Confessions" followed by "Chapter Four" solidify them in my favorites. ↓ My A7X Playlist ↓ A Little Piece of Heaven (not the typical A7X song, do not judge them based on this song) Acid Rain Afterlife (Banger!) Almost Easy (Banger!) And All Things Will End Bat Country (2006 win the MTV video award for Best New Artist for their song "Bat Country.") Beast and the Harlot (Banger!) I just remeber of something special, it's live version thats 10x times better then studio version...you will like it. That singer have better voice in live then in studio, and drummer is beast ( it's 80's megahit ) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLaAgNVp0K27fH0.html

Yes indeed, great band and stage blast performing. More Dire Straits: Money For Nothing and Walk of Life from the 1985 album Brothers in Arms. You`ll enjoy it as much as you did with this one.

As this song is one they couldn't get away with not playing when performing, I sometimes got the feeling they weren't that into playing it. Mark Knopfler's way of singing it slightly nonchalant makes it seem that way too. But a minute in the whole band got into the groove and the energy was there every time. I get it that some bands get tired of playing their biggest hits that they "have to" do every time, but Mark still looked like he had as much fun almost 40 years later. And incredibly, he just got better and better at playing that guitar. Seems as natural as breathing to him.

If you want to see more of Dire Straits, here's where you start (by the way, to me Mark Knofler is the best guitarrist of all time, my favorite): 1 - Money for Nothing (pick the original studio version); 2 - Your Latest Trick (this one you will like both the studio version and the live version, can't tell wich one is my favorite); 3 - So Far Away; 4 - Walk of Life; 5 - Romeo and Juliet; 6 - Telegraph Road (pick the live version from this very show you watched now); 7 - Brothers in Arms;

Mark Knopfler has said that the song is about stopping into a bar in London and seeing a pretty bad band playing to a virtually empty bar but seeing that the guys were into it despite their lack of talent and some stuff being said in the crowd. Knopfler said the singer closed the show by saying, "Thank you. We're the Sultans of Swing."

I have to say you hit on a lot of points I've always thought. I realized this. While loving trance, house, rock, metal ....Well basically everything. It seems for example that all good trance tracks have breakdowns and huge buildups and it gives you an euphoric feeling. This is obviously a totally different genre and this particular version of the song. Done Live is what makes this version of the song the best. The break down and long build up is EPIC. Every reactor i have seen can not stop moving from start to finish. As you said and showed. Great reaction.

Yeah, girlfriend - the song is about SEX. "Shake for me girl - I wanna be your back door man!" (It's not talking about buildings). And one other comment - In all the reactions I've seen posted about this song NOBODY has commented on the cool "pre echo" effect on Robert Plant's voice. I've never heard that in ANY other song, and it was stunning when I first heard it in 1969. At that time, I was too innocent to understand the back door man comment, but I've since learned, thank you very much! I like your cute smile!
