The Ludwig Hot Mix truly lives up to the hype. I finally found one for $1 in a dollar bin a few weeks ago after years of looking. Night and day as you can easily tell here. The later 70’s George Piros isn’t bad, but nothing tops the RL. Not even the most Classic Records audiophile pressing cut by Bernie Grundman.

Curiosity got the better of me and I ended up with a chewed up copy supposed to be vg+. Then I got a much cheaper and better condition German RL but only on the first side. The second side is awful. I also have the new page re master and it sounds much more like the RL than it does the weak second one in this video and is 180g clean vinyl. If I weren't so curious and more budget conscious I'd say go with the newest page remaster. It consistent, maybe arguably the most audiophile sounding and it rocks pretty good. RL if you have to have the best cause everything lows,mids,. Highs are more crankable with less fatigue but still the latest remaster is closest I've heard and difference is slighter (not staggering like it is here). Unless my German RL is not hot. Anyone know if there were any non hot RL Zeppelin 2s?

The first version sounds very bright and defined. Bonham sounds like Bonham should. Page is razor sharp. Jones rolls beautifully. And Plant comes through as if he is singing live. It's ashame they had to change the sound so drastically. You would think a radio executive would have a decent turntable at home.

Were :Led Zeppelin of the mind to be surrounded on tour by intense audiophiles, "Dancing Days" would not have made Houses, but "The Rover." I've already lost 50 per cent of future "fun reputation" responding to a KZfaq comment. Might as well finish it off; like many many online things the comparison is Stoked to Stoke. 2nd pressing sounds nowhere near as muddy as this Made to be liked video. Made to be liked videos predominate, but do present the thing worshipped very-well.

In the second one you can barely hear the drums in parts. Jimmy's bowing of the guitar sounds not so nice. The whole thing sounds rather muffled. It sounds like it was produced by someone who doesn't like loud music, so toned it down. Mine's not a Ludwig edition but it doesn't sound bad like that second edition. I thought Jimmy Page was the producer of his own albums. If this release prompted that, I can understand why.
@johndiloreto3738 Жыл бұрын
Wow. It is unreal how much worse the second pressing is. The Ludwig is alive, with a TON more presence, clarity, and bass, and with a WAY wider soundstage.

Bob Ludwig is still alive. If the executives at Atlantic Records could only be forced at gunpoint to pay Bob handsomely, to FIND the original lacquer to create stampers, OR recut this album and have it reissued, then there's hope for this planet. If not, then Greta Thunberg was right.

@manolokonosko28683 жыл бұрын
@@heliotropezzz333 It's a cold, hard business decision. If they re-press or re-cut the lacquer to make the album sound harder, the current worldwide inventory will go to crap. No one will buy those records, and many already bought will flood the 2nd hand market, thus decreasing the chances of the "hard" reissue being a success. Crazy? Look at Discogs, or Ebay, or your local record shop and se how many old copies of The White Album, or Sgt. Pepper's "stereo re-edition" are on the used LP bins because fans are flocking to buy the remixes. I think we will see the "hard" reissue someday, but it will be years before we do. Time is now measured not in years, but in decades.

If the "needle jumped" out of the Atlantic daughter's copy on her player that'd have repeated many times, over. Over the years, the band appealed all over, not to audiophiles and we wizards. "Dancing Days" direct, over "The Rover" on an LP with no irony. Also decisions made on the fly.
