Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

1973, I was four years old, my dad used to play this album, and in particular this song to me and my sister. We didn't have a TV, and dad used to have a handful of records we used to listen to and dance to. 2012, this was played at my dad's funeral, he was only 62 when he died. I love you dad, choking up listening to this now but remembering simpler, happier times x

@@marisaj2346 That depends on what you define as "good" aka "better" - (more) pleasant? skilled? popular? successful? I find a few other bands more pleasing than Led Zeppelin - although Stairway is my all time favourite song - because (a) I hate Robert Plant's screaming - not his early _singing_ voice in general - and (b) sometimes I'm annoyed by the guitar tone (as a guitarist especially important to me). Drums & Bass/Piano/... are 99,999% of the time amazing, no criticism there. My subjective opinion.

MY Bible says to love everyone one no matter what. Do not think there is something "wrong" with you, as God created everyone, even those dang gays:) What God wants is your heart, not your actions. Heard this for the first time when I was 16. My brother was tasked to pick me up from prep school (Outward Bound School in Stowe Vermont circa 1976). I'd scored a bag of weed, what we thought was gold......been getting it there the that school year. He was skeptical, thought I'd got ripped off. Stilll , asked me to roll up a pin joint for the ride back to Ohio. Missed the exit for 80 or 90 and ended up in Schenectady N.Y.. I was to caught up in the buzz (exceptional and above what I was use too) and the music to even bother looking for the right exit. Vehicle, 1970 Buick Estate Wagon. Sound system .....battery powered cassette player. Much of this album is profoundly and in some ways a part of who I am...silly, perhaps but never the less etched into my my memory. Whenever I hear some of the songs from this album (Zeppelin III) this is what I'll remember.

I think back to my teenage years when I first heard this song. Times of happiness, anger, sadness and loss. Memories of events from nearly 20 years ago and they are fresh in my mind when I hear this song. That's the way it oughta be I suppose.

I was in the 6th grade back in 1977 in Michigan, stumbled upon my older sister's record collection . . . Amboy Dukes, Led Zeppelin , etc. Amazed by the album covers of her collection, started placing the vinyl on the turntable, plugged in the oversized headphones into the hifi . . . sat in the wooden rocker in the living room, and listened to the Zeppelin albums over and over and over and over . . . . this song reminds me of that particular moment. 56 now, and Led Zeppelin has always been my favorite band over all these years, my "goto".

Just discovered this song. I've always had respect for a band that I see to be a group of elite musicians only. All of them. Since I'm here and have found a few common traits with zeppelin and my favorite band of all time, I've got to ask, have any of you folks who have an ear for the good stuff ever listen to The Mars Volta? I strongly urge all of you to look into those guys. They too have a world class musician on every instrument, and didn't compromise. Also, much of their music being extraordinarily beautiful

Being 23 years old and a big LZ fan, I stumbled upon this song today and don't understand how I haven't heard it before. The Steel Guitar is haunting and I can't get enough of it. I will replay this until I get sick of it, which is going to be a very long time.
