This and In My Time of Dying are their best in studio live jams ( except for slight overdubs here). Brilliant. No one did this stuff ..sold 300 million records and remained almost anonymous at the same time like these 4 lads did. What they accomplished becomes more apparent and monumental as time goes on.

This song really highlights John Paul Jones bass skills. These guys, and Pink Floyd are the reason that I learned how to play guitar and bass. Not everyone likes every song they wrote, but they never wrote a single "bad" song. That is a high bar to set.

I enjoyed this reaction! So this is a blues breakup-rebound song. Instead the normal woe-is-me type breakup ballad, in this one, they're saying, "I shoulda known better than to get involved with you!" The main verses come from the song "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf and the funky, improvised, "Squeeze My Lemon" bit is from "Travelling Riverside Blues" by Robert Johnson.

The “lemon” song is about sex too. It’s about a girlfriend who treats him bad, but is good in bed. What else do you think “when you squeeze my lemon, I’m gonna fall right outta bed” means. Or “squeeze me baby til the juice runs downs my leg”. So now you get what a “lemon” stands for? And yeah, that’s a guitar. Jimmy Page is a wizard on the guitar. The guy with the amazing voice is Robert Plant. The drummer is John Bonham and John Paul Jones is on bass. All of them are among the best musicians in all of rock history.

"The Lemon Song" is probably the most overt sexual song by Led Zeppelin. This album is the second album release of 1969, appropriately titled Led Zeppelin II. The band released 4 albums in a little over 2 years!! Zep flew out the gate rockin' and playin' the electric blues! I have been a huge Zep fan since 1973 (I was 14). The soulful lead vocalist is a young 20 year old Robert Plant!! Barely out of his teens. This song also provides some of the best blues bass work by none other than John Paul Jones! He also played piano, organ, acoustic guitar and mandolin! Arguably, the most talented member of Led Zeppelin! 💙💙💙💙

As you read, this song incorporates other blues songs into something new. As I said before, if you think the production values are outstanding, like the quality of Robert's vocals, or how the instruments pop or whatever, thank guitarist Jimmy Page who created the band and produced all their albums. Zeppelin had a variety of styles such as blues, rock, folk, ballads, funk, ethereal soundscapes, and epics. If you're willing to expand your musical exposure, pick a song at random from their catalogue. I guarantee you the Zep fans will be here for your reaction.

How about you research and react to the men who inspired this tribute song??? Howling Wolf and Hubert Sumlin
@TheGreatsagegoku3 жыл бұрын
Dude, you pretty much nailed it. Yes that was an electric guitar btw lol. You should really see them live. Robert Plant singer/Harmonica, John Bonham drummer. John Paul Jones Bass, Synth, Jimmy Page Guitar/Theramin. As you read about a bit there at the end, Led Zeppelin has gotten in some trouble in the past for stealing parts of songs. On the musical side it's really just a few borrowed chords and phrases, on the lyrical side it's whole songs and their titles sometimes, such as Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Many of their earlier works are heavily inspired by southern USA Blues and folk music in general. While the band did cover songs, they made them their own in a way by amping up the energy.
@gradywilson30063 жыл бұрын
John Paul Jones puts on a clinic in this song with his bass playing. Led Zeppelin's groove is all Bonham and Jones.

Three words for your next Led Zeppelin reaction: Achilles Last Stand. Brace yourself. Yeah, this one was all electric. Jimmy Page is a wizard of guitar tones. Robert Plant is his equal on the vocals. PS - Lemon. Squeeze. Juice. Leg. Get it now?
@brotherbadger66783 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it's still true, but at one point in time, John Bonham (the drummer) was one of the most sampled drummers in hip-hop. Mostly due to the clearness of his drumming on led zep records they were the first band to mic up every individual drum on the kit during recording, Zeppelin were arguably why we record bands in the way we do to this day. Jimmy Page (lead guitarist) is also credited with the invention of the modern PA system used at live shows.

Also, this is really simple blues (check out the song Killing Floor) that they jam over, which was notable enough. They get so much beyond just hard electric blues in later albums, which is why they are legendary. But if they’d done nothing but turn up on old blues riffs like this they’d still be out of sight.

Very interesting on your take about not necessarily wanting the second "uptick" after settling into that slow, funky bass riff during "The Lemon Song" as I thought the same exact thing when I first heard this classic. That said, while Zeppelin was known for infusing SERIOUSLY bad ass blues with rock, check out Zeppelin's "Bring It On Home" as it goes from almost total blues, then about halfway through, BAM! It explodes with its own killer guitar and drums riff. Good stuff, I'd highly recommend it :)

As far as this band goes, you really need to read up on the band members. Robert Plant is the lead singer. John Paul Jones on bass. The drummer, Jon Bonham is widely considered one of the best drummers ever. Jimmy Page is the guitarist. Really up there as one of the best guitarists ever. You have to listen to the “Kashmir” video Live at Knebworth 1979. Showing and critiquing the song needs to be done from showing the video. All the band members site this song as their greatest accomplishment. You should watch it next so you can go backwards in order to compare it to all their dozens and dozens of other songs.
