Such class acts. I wish we still had guys like this representing bodybuilding today. Phil and Kai aren't the pro's these two were or still are.

+jamesgville Kai is a decent person though, he would fit right in with Dorian, Haney, Coleman... as far as comradery is concerned. Kai is also not unintelligent. Phil Heath however is a narcisistic maniac. Superb physique but a maniac none the less.

Ninjanomikz I did see the press conference in fact. Regardless of how Kai acted in that incidence, he remains probably the most interesting pro bodybuilders at this time. He certainly has issues, but I do consider him a thinking person. Warning: I can only name three or four pros.

I loved Arnold's biceps, chest and shoulders. His chest and biceps really stood out. In the 80s, i enjoyed Albert Beckles, Boyer Coe and others. I never saw freakish body parts on Lee Haney. He didn't have body parts that stood out individually. Looking back on it now, I see why Lee was so great. He had a balanced, perfectly proportioned physique. That is why he doesn't stand out as much. But that is the ultimate goal and that is why Haney was the best of all time. He had it all

+ptothej100 I think Haney had the best upper chest period...it was freakish how it came straight out at the top as opposed to slanted.You could sit a cup on it.Go look at old pics again.His waist to lat taper was secondond to none also and could do a vacume,Who did a vacume this year?

If you look at the evolution and/or transformation of the sport of bodybuilding, this was the bridge from one era to the next. Haney represented the classic presentation and Yates was the grainy mass monster that pushed things forward. Yates didn't have the most proportional or most balanced physique. But he had thick, freakish muscles that couldn't have possibly looked more dense and thick.

Wow, i never following Lee. Arnold and Dorian were the guys that inspired me. Lee Haney is a true gent very humble, an amazing ambassador. The sport of bodybuilding today has turned into something grotesque...

You could buy lee Haney gloves and wrist straps at target. You can still find em not his name on em. Harbinger gloves, sting wrap around straps. Lee had a small bit of balsa wood stiched in. Bar would never slip. Extra rep.

Haney was a great champion. I don't think he had it in him to keep putting his body through it any longer. He wanted to beat Arnold's record (though Arnold could have won every year from 70-83 at least if he hadn't retired) and was just done. Bodybuilding is hard. I'm sure seeing a hungry monster like Yates only made it easier. But to say he pussed out or was afraid is stupid because he literally faced him on stage and beat him. Why would he be scared? It was pretty close and I'm sure 92 would have been a toss up as well had Lee come back. But the drugs changed drastically over the next 12-18 months as did the judges fascination with mass over aesthetics so Yates would likely have taken him down in 93 provided Lee didn't also do the same drug regimen.

See my reply in another thread above : I don't think it had to do with the drug regimen, but more likely the sheer training intensity, the dedication to go beyond the limit to get the last few % of potential improvement. Dorian Yates wasn't so much bigger than Lee Haney, but his muscle density was on a whole other level, and that doesn't come with drugs alone.

Sujit Sharma if we compare the best Lee and the best Dorian there’s no denying Dorian was miles ahead. Also what does what they look like today have anything to do with their results for back in their prime? I don’t see that as a judging category I’m sorry that’s just a fan boy excuse. You fail to realize Dorian is like this now BECAUSE of how dedicated he was, he knew he didn’t that the best genetics of that stage so he decided he was going to win by outworking these guys and that’s exactly what he did. I mean look at Ronnie, the guy had good genetics and worked as hard as Dorian and look at him now, he can barely walk but he’s seen as the GOAT by many people.

Xteve _ yeah Dorian was miles ahead on having a big gut and zero symmetry and asthetics . You seem to miss the fact that Haney didn't abuse GH and Insulin as Yates obviously did. With Haneys superior genetics he would have been just as big or bigger than Yates with those drugs. Yates only had more size than Haney on his legs and gut, nowhere else.

Sujit Sharma you’re a fool if you think they all didn’t abuse performance enhancing drugs. These guys did anything to reach their peak and the fact of the matter is, Dorian at his peak would’ve given Lee a run for his money, if not beat him.

Lee Haney retired because he knew Dorian Yates will beat him the next year. First Olympia, Dorian Yates places 2nd (not sure it even happened before in history...), 1992 and 1993 Dorian Yates was something the world never saw before; he would have crushed Lee Haney, and he saw it coming, so he left while on top; smart move.
