I just tested these headphones on a conference trip, and they performed excellently. They are light, and the case is sturdy. It's easy to fold them and toss them into a backpack or satchel. Their lightness makes them comfortable for extended use, and I usually dislike overhead headphones or hats. The noise canceling is effective, making a plane flight quiet even with the volume at half. It's also not too overwhelming for working in quiet places like a library. The microphone is satisfactory according to the people I chatted with over various platforms (Teams, Meets, FaceTime). The touch controls are responsive, and the communication gestures came in handy surprisingly often. The connection is seamless, though a bit different from Apple products, but I figured it out quickly. Overall, I think this is a good pair of headphones for those on the move. There are multiple positives, although they might be a bit pricey.

So here's my only concern. I got the ULT Wear and I love them for the most part, with one exception. They need more volume. One or two more volume steps would do it for me. I also have the crusher anc 2, and they have slightly higher max volume. So I'm gonna spam this comment around, maybe we can convince sony to give this to us via a software update. I know they want to protect our ears (avoid lawsuits), maybe they can program the headphones to give a loud volume warning like many phones already do and keep it pushing. some content is just recorded at a lower volume... LETS ALL BEG SONY FOR THIS UPDATE!!

In terms of sound quality/bass, which do you prefer?

@@NextGenKid101 I like the sound of the sonys better (with ult off and no eq) definitely cleaner. they get a little muffled sounding with both ult modes. The crushers obviously hit harder, with convincing enough tactile bass. i switch between them depending on my mood. Crushers are better for bass for sure

I totally agree ! my sony WH-1000XM3 have so mutch volume, but my sony WH-XB910N are so quiet it lets me listen to sony WH-1000XM3 just because of that. Even though i like bass.

Are you on iOS or Android because I just got the ULTs and on an iPhone, they are pretty loud.

they get like 50% louder in wired mode with on board amp on, for some reason.

This "cheaper" plastic in ULTs is nicer IMO because it doesn't attract fingerprints 😊

Currently comparing the ULT with the XM5's both on flat profiles but with ULT 1 bass mode. It really does kick harder than the XM5's and sounds just as good as the XM5s. The XM5's just seem to sound "clearer" in terms of treble but they really lack in bass ever since I bought them last year. What sold was the fact that they had all the good features from the XM5 and they were foldable.

i love sony, but i have a pair of razer kaira pro, good bass, BUT they have HAPTIC FEEDBACK in the ear cups and actually VIBRATE every bass transition truly giving immersion and actually FEELING the bass and hearing the bass, imagine playing a game or watching a movie and something impactful happens and the bass mimics the impact, thus delivering immersion and awesomeness lol

vielen Dank! Excellent review. I'm 77 but prefer also good clear treble. Will the ULT 900N provide that too? Lived in Rhein-Pfalz in the 80s. Miss Deutschland.

Gerne. If you are not using the ULT Button, than the sound is quite okay, the mids are clear. But there are better Headphones for that.

I like the idea of more features in a cheaper outer shell. As long as said outer shell is durable. I’m not a bass head so these aren’t for me. I would find it interesting to see how the Sony app EQ (among the class leaders) improves the sound. Or not.

Vom Klang etc finde ich die ults sehr interessant, mache mir nur etwas sorgen wegen der Plastik Qualität die schon in einigen Videos kritisiert wurde… ist das wirklich so ein Problem? Ich habe keine Lust 200€ auszugeben, was heutzutage ja mittleres bis unteres Preisnehmern zu sein scheint🙄, und dann einen Kopfhörer zu haben der schon nach kürzester Zeit knarzt oder dergleichen.

Ich kann natuerlich nicht sagen was in 6-12 Monaten mit dem Kopfhörer passiert, aber vom anfassen her, ist das halt super billiges Plastik. Ich denke wenn du sorgsam damit umgehst, und das Case benutzt, passt das schon.

Ich habe den xm3 immer noch und da knarzt nix. Und der hat sich über 800h geleistet und wurde sogar beim sport genutzt

These are great fun for EDM music, way better than my dt 990 pro and dt 770 pro and 1more triple driver IEMs. The sony ult makes you feel like you are at a live EDM concert, lol.

I did test both. Honestly, both excel in their own ways. Both got crazy bass. It all boils down to whether you like headphones vibrating on your head.lol. I personally prefer The ult because of ldac. The anc 2 only have sbc and aac

@LeechTM What headphones would you recommend mend if you listen to a lot of ro k and metal? And are there any good for Rock and Metal you'd recommend with an IP rating that could be used in gym for workouts?

i would not recommend using Over-ear Headphones in the Gym over a longer time period. Other than that, i went with the momentum 4, and the jabra Elite 10 as my two primary means of listening to metal this year.

Nice Review. Schöne Review. Ich vergleich den gern mit dem skullcandy anc2 zb. Der Bass macht Spass😅. Für 180 Euro tolles Gerät. Nur extra bass stufe2 is unnötig.. das erinnert mich an nem freund der ausm Kofferraum nen einzigen subwoofer gemacht hat. Da geht alles im bass unter

The Skull Candy crusher ANC 2 are a much better offering than the Sony Ult 1s for Bass Heads!

I have tried both I agree skull candy hits hard but the bass is artificial sounding and seems to have the same bass sound with different bass notes, ULT is definitely more real and sounds better

no definitly sony better i have both sony's bass very punchy and crusher not be punchy just habtic engine motor and vibrate
