No Way. Never. Murray is right, that Ayrton had a dark side. Watch what Martin Brundle said about it. Senne liked to bring his rivals into a situation, where they had to decide: accident or backing of. And if the other one backed of once, Senna knew for the future: thats what he always would do. But THATS not a good reason to favour Prost over Senna. Alain had a dark side too. Oh yes. He couldn't handle that Senna proved in 89, that he was the constant faster man. Only technical failures of Sennas car (5 times his car failed as Senna led the race) brought Prost close to the title. The Quali- duell was 14 : 02. And in Suzuka Alain did (yes, by intention!!! Prost turned 10 m bevor the corner to the right to make the collision) what Murray is accusing Senna for one year later. And did Prost get a punishment for it?. No. His friend and fellow frenchmen Jean-Marie Balestre disqualified Senna for no reason and handed Alains 3. titel over. What a travestie. And what was bevor the start of the 1990 Suzuka GP? The did try to cheat against Senna again. By changing the starting grid positions to give Prost the better line. This was a well provoked reaktion. And they knew it. A punishment for Senna? Not a word about it. Prost better then Senna? No Way. Sorry Mr. Walker. I adore U. But in this case you are wrong.

@@enricoknaak9683 his car failed 4 times while leading (USA, Canada (inheriting the lead once Prost retired with a suspension problem), Italy and France which he held for less than one turn), and points per race favour Prost, even with mechanical DNFs taken into account (81 in 15 races for Prost, or 5.4 per race, and 60 in 12 races for Senna, or 5.0 per race) Pole position in Suzuka was always on that side prior to 1990. "fellow friend and frenchman" who did nothing to help Prost in 1990 when he had cause to disqualify Senna but didn't. Prost definitely does have an argument to be considered better, considering he had more points than Senna in both years as teammates, and beat every teammate he had, which was the best lineup of teammates of any F1 legend.

@@clubpenguin13531 It's difficult to debate with a fanboy. Not 3 races, 5 times lead Senna before he had to stop. What about Silverstone, Monza and last-but-not-least the Mansell-Meltdown in Estoril. Forgot about that? Senna was the better driver in 89, by 0,3 s per lap min. in most races, with ab bigger gap in most Qualis. 1,3 s (!) in Spain. 1,3 s in Japan. 0,8 s in Australia. And thats only the last 3 GP. Get the facts straight.

@@enricoknaak9683 added Monza to the list, but the other two weren't car failures. Qualifying is irrelevant for the championship, otherwise Trulli would be considered a better driver than Alonso. Didn't acknowledge the points about pole in Suzuka, or Prost having more points as his teammate even with mechanical DNFs accounted for, or Balestre doing nothing in 1990 even though he'd apparently do anything to help Prost, but then again, it's difficult to debate with a fanboy.

"Style improves with time, no one is born with it" - Juan Manuel Fangio I many people make this mistake when taking up a passion. A lot of people try to find something else, and then move on from that, and start a cycle where you will probably never end up being good at anything. Find something you love. It doesn't have to be sim racing or even anything to do with 4 wheels, just anything. I first tried out DiRT Rally at 13 I think and I kept flying off a mountain in Audi Quattro. But I loved it, so I carried on. Using some of the experience from circuit racing, I eventually was able to finish a stage cleanly in a top 2000 world time. I tried harder, and by the time I was 14, I was getting into the top 100. Then DiRT Rally 2 rolled around. Since I was one of the first players, I got some early world records, but as expected, they were disposed of fast. But then I started getting a feel for where the limit was in some corners. This allowed me to get a few World Records around 3 or 4 months into the game. I then learned the art of consistency, being able to get to that same limit on any corner I felt comfortable with at all times, and holding myself back at the areas I wasn't used to. This meant I was incredibly fast in Finland, a place normally (even in video games) dominated by the scandinavians. But with my love of the Finnish roads and my previous high speed driving in circuit racing, I managed to get a clean sweep at one time for all stages in the most competitive category. I think some have been topped, but people are still seeing me (IMPREZZIVE 555) at the top. A year in, I met some of the top drivers at Autosport International DiRT Rally 2.0 series (wasn't old enough to compete, age limit 18) and I told some of the top guys my gamertag and they recognized me. You know you are one of the top players when the people you respect have a respect for you. Going into 1 1/2 years into DiRT Rally 2.0, I got a PC and started playing RBR (imo more realistic, better training for real life). Before this week, all my records were done on gravel and snow, as I struggled to get a feel for tarmac rallying. But I faced my fear, and managed to find the limit with some practice, and got my 1st Tarmac record on the Czech Rally School. Fangio is an absolute legend. If there was the same coverage as there is today, he would have been an absolute superstar, I dare say, far surpassing Hamilton's level, since he was just a league above everyone else. I know I wasn't even born when he died, but there's just this unique flair about him which inspires me.

Thanks for sharing, Im enjoying this immensely, and writing a comment after watching to the end of the Stirling Moss entry as Im so enjoying it! 😀👍 I dont remember being treated to this gem piece of F1 content at the time, and indeed living in Australia could well explain why it was never shared with us racefans. I just wanted to stop here and announce to the universe that Mr Moss was the finest dude, and that Motorsport, well particularly 50's and 60's Motorsport, could not have wished for a finner dude to represent what racing and being a racer, is all about. He had speed, brains, style, sportsmanship, humility, confidence, honour, interlect, great articulation, and dammit the dude was even blessed with rather sharpish good looks to go with it. When Murray declared at the end of the segment, "we should all be allowed to call him "Lord Stirling Moss, Lord of Motorsport" I actually shouted my agreement at Murray Walker with a ferver that rather surprised me... Old racecars are gteat. Old Racecar Drivers are fantastic. And old Races are fascinating and, well, eternal. Love Moss' Pro Dudeness. Anyway, Senna sempre #1 Except maybe for good looks, as Moss might have the edge, even with a the bald going on Moss is 60's Jason Stratham. 😎 I can testify that, as I'm born in the year of James Hunt's title, the reverence for older racers that were heros in my Fathers formative years is 'real rose coloured glasses at times.' Us Senna-fanatics did not arrive at our fanatisism blindly! 😁 Thanks again for the share.

F1 fans' hatred for Prost is just petty and ridiculous. They conveniently forget there were several times when he and Senna had the SAME car and he beat him FAIR AND SQUARE. And they told Prost to shut up when Senna deliberately rammed him to steal the 1988 title from him. But they cry and piss about ANYTHING Michael Schumacher did. Murray reminded F1 magazine that in terms of bad behavior, "Senna was worse, infinitely worse." So true. Remember this is the same one who PUNCHED Eddie Irving for managing to hold him off for one lap in Japan in 1993. The sucker should have been banned from the sport for the first five races of the 1994 season and fined a few thousand quid.

1989 was a disaster for Senna, he pretty much won the race or retired from it, his McLaren wasn't reliable enough. He was always faster than Prost, who himself was an amazing driver, but luck played a big part. Prost ran into Senna, there's no doubt about it, Senna returned the favour in '90. Senna gets shit for that, but Prost never does. For anyone not around in the days of Senna, just look how Alonso is treated today and you'll get the idea.

@@jglx28 We need to clarify things, you said, that Balestre put Senna to the dirty side but in fact that was the pole side from the beginning, nobody had any problem with it in 1987, in 1988 or in 1989. In 1990 Senna claimed to change this layout and they din't do that for him. There was no safety concern or anything, just Senna wanted to gain further advantage. About Balestre favoring Prost all I can say, that Prost was disqualified in Imola, 1985 and in Monza, 1986, two of his championship years. Both years were quite tight, so if this is how Balestre favors anybody, I think noone would ask his favor. I am watching Formula 1 since the eighties, I saw all the races since 1983 and I didn't hear anything about Balestre favoring Prost before the Senna movie. Senna fans use to think this as some kind of axiom, but it is not, it needs proofs. Balestre and Senna clearly didn't get along but that doesn't mean that Balestre favoured his countryman. Murray was there, he knew what happened in the backstage and belive me, he had his reasons to put Senna behind Prost.

Murray said later when he was asked again that after michael won 7 times that he is now the number 2. so and based of what he brought up to make this ranking lets see where Vettel; Hamilton and Alonso fit in so starting with vettel: he showed at BMW sauber at the fridays practise that he was fast. moving to torro rosso in 2008 he won his first race in the rain in a slower car and moved on to red bull to claim 4 titles after that he moved to ferrari and failed to his nerves. i put him behind senna. on 4th. Hamilton: he went head to head with a 2 times world champion in his first year at f1 and claimed his first title one year later by one point in a dramatic fashion. he showed his skill especially in the rain at the season final in brasil and at the 2008 british grand prix wich he won, when his rival massa spun multiple times. he then had a few years where he drove in the midfield and in 2013 he moved to mercedes where he would win the title for to this day 5 additional times and he is on his way to win for a 7th time wich no one thought was possible. in his earlier days he showed weaknesses wich he seemed to have extinguished. now he drives every race with such a high perfection and seems unbeatable and off the track he is a very humble and nice guy. I put him 3 behind prost due to the fact that prost had a little more up to the sleeve even though hamilton and mercedes are one the way to beat every record. Now alonso: Alonso started 2001 with minardi anc claimed his first win in hungary 2003 and went on to beat Schumacher and raikkönen in 2005 claiming his first title against the 7 times world champion michael schumacher.in 2006 ferrari was back to form and alonso managed to beat schumacher for a second time. even though alonso only won 2 world titles, he is known to be one of the completest drivers. 2017 he went for the indy 500 victory and even though he was fast and in for the win, his engine broke down. in 2018 he won le mans with toyota and 2019 he took part in the rally dakar i would say he is between moss and clark the reasoning is it took him 4 years in f1 to claim his first title he only managed two times and things others before him managed to do he doesnt have something like that

The top 10 from f1metrics is the most objective and fascinating! I tend to lean towards agreeing with much of this list as well. 1. Michael Schumacher 2. Jackie Stewart 3. Fernando Alonso 4. Juan Manuel Fangio 5. Alberto Ascari 6. Jim Clark 7. Lewis Hamilton 8. Sebastian Vettel 9. Max Verstappen 10. Sterling Moss

@@LeeJane2009 Nope, and the author explains this as well. He couldn't believe it himself as he is a huge Senna fan, but his mathematical model believes that Senna is not as good as some of the drivers of today or some of the drivers from even before his time. Prost is rated 20th and Senna 21st according to his model. He went on a mission to figuring out why that is. For example, he believed that having Prost as a rival detracted from Senna's score in the math formula, but he found out that if he removed Prost from the history books, Senna still only went up to ~15th place IIRC. Same with Prost if you removed Senna as his team mate. His model is very objective and relies on team chains. I.e if theres a ton of data to point to the fact that driver A is much better than driver B, then if B and C are team mates for a long period of time, you can link C to A. His model also accounts for age related decline, etc. What his model found, was that the drivers who started in the 1980s linked to the ones who started in 1990s showed a massive advantage to the 1990s drivers, on average. The best explanation is because in the 1990s, especially later 90s, drivers started training far more, were far more physically fit, had been racing since they were children, etc. It seems evident that the 1980s era was fairly weak and the few drivers that stood out, such as Senna and Prost, stood out more because the competition wasn't as good. No such massive shift in quality phenomenon exists when moving from the 1990s to 2000s, or moving from 2000s to 2010s. Whereas moving from the 1970s to 1980s shows that the 1980s drivers were fairly substandard - a weaker cohort of talent. Therefore, there's a very strong argument to be made that Senna is actually nowhere near as great as he's been made out to be..if you put him at his best in this era, in 2021, its very likely he would only end up being around Bottas level.

Murray, Senna crashes into a competitor on purpose so he's not the best for that? Also, everyone knows that people admire more those that were around while they were young. Older people rate Pele the best ever while one generation will always say Maradona and another Messi. So it's no surprise that you went for Fangio - I just think you're wrong.
