Agreed, though I think pound-for-pound, Jacques Schulz was just as good in his own way, Ben Edwards does a solid job on C4 at the moment, and I wish John Watson reprised his role in the box alongside Ben. They don't have the excitement factor attached to them, but Allan McNish and Gary Anderson are really good as well.

Carlos Barton You know Jacques Schulz? Nice! Yes he and Murray have a lot in common. The passion, the humor, the respect for every single driver on grid, whether he's leading the race or running last... Such a shame he quit 5 years ago. I would buy German pay TV just for him! But Murray is/was on a completely different level of course. One of the (if not THE) best commentators of any kind ever

A true legend! I miss that era of commentary on F1. He and Hunt were a great team. Murray is currently 95yo, and many may not know that he graduated from Sandhurst military academy, and he was a distinguished tank commander in the Royal Scots Greys in WWll, and left with the rank of Captain. He saw action with the 4th Armoured Brigade in the Battle of the Reichswald, part of the mass pincer movement of the Allies that ended the war.

"I don't make mistakes, I make prophecies which immediately turn out to be wrong." For me, the key to what made Murray's commenting interesting was his wit, his self awareness over his own hysterical and - often - nonsensical commenting. And the sense of humor that he had about it. An interview with Clarkson in which he said he wanted to comment snookers was the confirmation of it.

Man I miss murray walker in F1. The commentator is part of what makes a sport exciting. Their job is to(or should be) convey that excitement to the crowd and get them going. And he did that well. I probably wouldnt have enjoyed F1 the same wothout his enthusiasm.

Murray is such a top, top man. A real good guy. I hope he is well. My first years watching F1, F3 and BTCC, his voice was as much a part of it as any driver. My fav 'Murrayism' is still one that is actually quite clever. 1993 (i think) BTCC Silverstone - Julian Bailey flips Will Hoy on to his roof; "the car upside down is a Toyota". Perfect. We need more commentators with his passion, wit and character/charisma!! (Or really more ppl full stop).

"Arrgh! He's going into the pool (at Monaco)" "Well, that should put out the flames." LMFAO, James "Shunt" Hunt was always perfect as additional commentary with Murray. So sad that we lost him to cancer in 1993. Even before his days in the commentary booth with Murray, he was one hilarious personality. Only James would show up for morning free practice wearing a T-shirt that said "Sex: the breakfast of champions"! I am not making this up. RIP James.
