At 42 Gear Street I'm joined by the legato master Tom Quayle who will teach me the basics of the said technique. I've never really practiced legato so I'm definitely starting with the simple stuff.

I must say Tom Quayle is not only a fantastic guitar player, which I already knew, but also a fantastic teacher. The way he conveys his knowledge with patience, simplicity and clarity, is just phenomenal and a rare gift indeed. It is very rare that someone is both a great player and a great teacher at the same time, but Tom is.

@@miotubo839 He is a very gifted player. I agree about his remarkable teaching skill that stood out. What seems obvious is that Tom Quayle is just an extra intelligent individual. That is a large part of what is going on with his teaching and interacting here.

have to say this has really helped me. Been playing guitar for around 15 years and when i started to learn the caged system i went from playing pentatonics to playing more open scale shapes and 3 note per string stuff. i don't think i took enough time to analyse my technique and as a result my technique suffered but just hearing Tom talk about the hand forming a relaxed I've totally changed how I play and it is way more easy to rip around the neck.
@CatPickStudios
@CatPickStudios 4 жыл бұрын
Yep sometimes we can learn everything but the basics. It's great to have someone remind us that with few simple changes our playing can become more relaxed. After doing this video I've been placing my thumb behind the neck more intentionally and it has improved my left hand fretting a lot.

Interesting, don't remember seeing that kind of left hand technique before. I'm no expert to give you advice on this so I would suggest finding a good teacher and working on this.
