🏁 THIS IS A 300-horsepower Subaru Impreza, and THIS is a 715-horsepower Impreza. We’re driving both of these cars and EVERYTHING in between.
This is a stock, 300 horsepower Subaru Impreza - and THIS is a SEVEN HUNDRED horsepower Subaru. And we’re going to drive to drive everything in between - before giving them to our Pro Driver to see which is ACTUALLY fastest!
Up first is the first generation - and for us, to be able to drive such an iconic car, was pretty special.

That's because the US does not have law's about road safety checks, like MOT, APK, TÜV and the like. So stuff breaks because there is no sense check. Also, the US has lower fuel standards.

The RA designation stands for "Record Attempt" and has been applied to various Subaru performance models. The original venture took place in 1989 when a competition version Subaru Legacy broke the FIA World Speed Endurance Record by clocking over 62,000 miles in 18 days and set a top speed record of 138 mph.

Here in the US ever since 2002 and I went for a ride in and drove my first boosted Subaru I’ve been in love with them. I was a sophomore in high school than and my buddy Drew had boosted his tiny 2 door Impreza L. Our senior year he had picked up a 2.5RS and put a JDM EJ22 into it along with a ton of legitimate and replica 22B components and parts. At ECS in Windsor Locks, CT it made 390 AWHP and he ran that car hard for over a decade with no head gasket issues and no glass 2nd gear problems. At 35 I finally decided I was going to build my own. I found a 2.5RS with high mileage, bone stock for $4500 and grabbed it for $3000. I had about a half dozen car friends who work in various sectors in the car industry help me with my build over the next 2 years or so. Everything from the frame to the interior was gutted and restored/modified to my dream car vision. At the end of the day it’s an amazing daily driver, in world rally blue with a carbon fiber trunk, hood and mirrors, RPF-1’s, a fully built EJ22 from Japan built and tuned by ECS and the Shop CT. On low boost it makes 348 AWHP and 415 on high boost all on pump fuel. The Tein suspension setup with anti roll bars and coilovers had a complete suspension geometry tune by my buddy Eric who works for Porsche and the mandatory 4 piston Brembo’s stop beautifully. I get that there’s WAYYY faster and better cars out there but this was my dream car and after wanting one for over 20 years I still get that “holy crap this is mine” feeling when I see it in my driveway or start it up before a cruise.

As an owner of a 2004 WRX wagon for almost a decade. I love seeing the positive Subaru content showing how awesome these cars can be. I did a JDM STI EJ207 ver7 swap with FP 68HTA (TD05) turbo, 1000cc injectors, 255 walboro pump, catless uppipe/downpipe, intake, big Perrin TMIC, paired with some sway bar/endlinks, and coilovers. The car made 310awhp 272tq with 91 octane fuel, 16 PSI of boost (stock boost controller), and revs all the way out to 8250RPM (thanks to AVCS "subaru VTEC"). Cars an absolute blast with more potential to make it faster. These cars can be incredible cars as long as they're not neglected. As always these videos always put a huge smile on my face, keep up the killer work guys!

I had the same 2005 subie wagon. Unmodded. Ran like clockwork for 8 years (besides obligatory head gasket replacement). Thing went through 10 inches of snow in a blizzard for 4 hours like a damn snowmobile. With all-weather tires. I drove it until the exhaust fell out due to rust. It would have cost 6 grand to get back to street legal. I sold it for 3 grand. The guy who bought it heard how smooth the engine ran, looked at me and said, "What on earth did you do to get it to run that smooth?" He didn't believe me when I said the only thing you need to do is change the oil to a quality synthetic and change it every 3k miles. Do those two things and it runs buttery smooth. No matter how hard I pushed that car, it never even came close to overheating. Thing was a beast. Whilst I miss the subie rumble and the AWD in the snow, I absolutely adore the '22 veloster N dct I bought to replace it. I, like many others, though I would hate FWD. It does not take away from the fun in any way. The FWD system is DAMN GOOD. It is insanely planted with no torque steer and it has ridiculous levels of grip. The N is an incredible machine. The reason I picked it is because it has the same 'hooligan/goon' personality as the 07 STI, but it is sharper and faster than an sti. The N-grin-shift button is WILD. It doesn't jump up the power too much, but it does make the transmission go APE with high revs and shifting so hard it shoves you back in the seat. The goon spirit of the original STI lives on.

This was so fun to see everyone’s reactions. The lap times and reviews went exactly how I thought. 500-600hp seems like the sweet spot for these cars. You still get that linear response and get good speed without having to hold back on a lap. 700+ and it gets more laggy and more scary to lap

@@nezabytes at such a high power output, 100%. At reasonable power outputs, Boost on these come in around 2500-3000, which is the sweet spot imo. I don’t think i’d enjoy driving a 700whp Subaru bc even with good tuning, boost doesn’t hit until higher RPMs. I don’t want the peak torque to come hit me like a ton of bricks 😂. They called the Porsche 930s with laggy 80’s turbos “Widowmaker” for a reason 😬

@@przemeknowak2905 it’s likely not any one thing. They only said the last one isn’t setup to be raced but street driven. It’s likely down to a combination of many things including the track choice. The extra power would be more useable on a track with longer straights. He said the 580hp one was already as hectic as he could handle. Likely on this track they reached a plateau where more power wasn’t beneficial. Then it would be down to the tires brakes and suspension to make the difference. It’s doubtful the brake callipers would be the biggest differentiator though. The 4 pots are what they use in the rally cars because they are the biggest brakes you can fit under 15in rims. They have plenty of gripping power. What matters is the pad compound and rotor quality. Calliper upgrades are the most overrated and useless upgrade out there. Just look at the Bananaru, it has the 4 pots and all they did was upgrade the pads and rotors because that’s what matters. It easily outbraked the lambo with massive callipers and rotors.

I had a "Blobeye" in South Africa back in 2008 as a daily, I changed jobs and was given a company car to use..I kept the Subaru and eventually got it modded out to around the 450kw (600bhp) mark...that car was insane to drive! One day I was in the car with 3 friends..all male and all at least 85-90kg`s each and a Golf GTi MKIV challenged me at a set of lights, the lights went green and he took off like he was on a drag strip, I sat at the lights with all 4 tyres spinning...when I hooked traction and got going I caught him at around 80 meters down the road and passed him like he was looking for parking...very scary what those engines are capable of with some skilled tweaking (and a whole lot of money to get them tweaked...not a cheap hobby at all!)

I can't necessarily speak to the whole "super fast" STi, but I can absolutely tell you that my STi is one of the most fun and gratifying cars to drive even being 90% stock. Just the exhaust, short shifter, and more heavy-duty clutch make the car sound and feel like a Saint Bernard on a leash... Let me know if you guys ever find youself in New Jersey. We have a few 800hp to 900hp Subarus that feel great. On the last Subaru (700hp), it seems it needs a retune to maximize the mid range torque. Our 800 and 900hp cars are torque monsters in that mid range. Great video!

I've discovered this channel just now, and it is awesome ngl Gotta wonder why the Channel icon is Scott's face. Does it come from a challenge he won or something?

I bought a T reg GC8 back in August. Best thing I ever did ever ❤ I reckon the classic would go under the minute mark after the track dried out.

Well, you have the cars, I'd love if there was a way you could do a drag race to see how they perform with just acceleration.

Some better brakes and tires on that last one, and it would be even more betterer.

Cool thing about the EJ20K, if the GC8 is so equipped, is that it has the highest lift, longest duration stock cams of any EJ series. Close second would be the cloverleaf EJ20D, followed by the USDM EJ25D-ironically, the OG 'gasket-blower' that gave them the reputation. *cough* replace the head gaskets every 130,000 miles like the service manual says to *cough*
